More names from our panel of Fantasy Premier League managers are back to answer your questions, this time as we go into the first international break of the campaign.

The big question which we’ve had plenty of submissions on is whether Mohamed Salah (£13.om) should come out of our squads.

We’ve got some opinion on that conundrum while the subjects of transfers during the international break and Wildcard tips are also discussed.

Once again, we had an overwhelming response to our request for questions. Unfortunately, we can only answer a handful each week but keep your queries coming in for the rest of the season.

Here’s a reminder of who is on the panel for your Gameweek 4 Question Time:

James Egersdorff – You can’t get much more experienced than this man when it comes to FPL. After yet another season inside the top 5,000 managers in 2017/18, James is a Fantasy Football Scout ‘Hall of Fame’ legend.

Tom from Who Got the Assist? – One half of one of the fastest growing FPL podcasts of recent times.

Holly Shand – Founder of the popular Fantasy Football Community website and recent video star for Official FPL.

QUESTION ONE – JAMES EGERSDORFF

Do we have enough information to be reasonably sure that Mane provides a better points return over Salah and if so, should we be looking to move Salah on?

James: “The lack of a double-digit return from the ‘Egyptian King’, combined with the smoking hot start to the season from Mané has led many FPL managers (myself included!) to investigate the possibility of doing the unthinkable and removing Salah from our squads.

“As a pre-Gameweek 4 Wildcarder, it’s fair to say the idea of cashing in on Salah did look attractive. I spent the week tinkering with my squad given with treasure trove of riches his £13m opened up. It looked like a combination of Mané and Hazard versus Salah and a (roughly) £7m midfielder here.

“It’s definitely a tough choice. We’ve only had four Gameweeks played and therefore only a small sample of data to base such a potentially season-defining decision on. So I kept the Egyptian in my squad.

“We must ask ourselves ‘do we feel that Mané and Salah will maintain their current performance levels?’ Mané is flying right now, with a score of 9.8 per game to Salah’s 6.8. To put that into context, if they were to continue that over 38 Gameweeks, Mané would smash the all-time FPL high score record (303 set by Salah last season) with a whopping 372. Do we really think he’s capable of doing that?

“On the other hand, Salah would weigh in with just over 258, which in fairness isn’t a million miles away from his optimum points per game levels seen in 2017/18.

“Working the figures again, this tells us Salah is underperforming against last year’s figures by around 15 percent, whereas Mane is massively overperforming, even when we factor in his 10-game absence last season.

“The question FPL managers need to ask themselves therefore is whether they feel Salah will make up the performance level deficit and return to the mean and whether Mane can continue to outperform his mean score by such a high margin.”

QUESTION TWO – HOLLY SHAND

How much team value can you potentially earn playing your Wildcard during the international break and is it worth using if your squad doesn’t need a major fix?

Holly: “The international break tends to be a steadier time for price rises and falls than many expect. So I’d expect perhaps just one or two players rising twice, to give the all important £0.1 million gained value.

“However, if you cannot afford the price swings to ditch underperforming assets for the in-form players, the Wildcard can still be valuable.

“Beware the fixture swings and chasing early season points though.

“Liverpool in particular have a tricky upcoming spell.”

QUESTION THREE – TOM

If you are not planning to use the Wildcard for Gameweek 5, how many point hits should we consider taking to make up an injury and suspension filled squad? Also, should we be making early transfer considering how fast players prices are rising?

Tom: “How many hits should we consider? Well, obviously this depends very much on your team and what the situation is.

“If you are dead set on keeping your Wildcard, I’d focus on getting a good XI out for Gameweek 5, after International Break, rather than fixing bench fodder – unless you are doing a combination move as part of your hit (i.e. moving a £4.5 defender down to a £4.0 to free up cash).

“That being said, I’d be thinking that if you need multiple hits to deal with your team’s injuries and suspensions then there’s no need to be stubborn about pulling your wildcard; your squad needs it.

“Should we make early transfers considering how fast players’ prices rise? It depends in what context.

“If there’s little to no midweek action, as we’ve seen at the start of this season, then an early transfer is a risk that can be worth taking.

“However as we saw with Wilfried Zaha and Kevin de Bruyne picking up training ground knocks you are never immune from a shock injury.

“But as we start to enter the period where continental football and other cup competitions return, I’d advise being more cautious with your early transfers as you may end up needing a hit to fix an impetuous move.

“Essentially: you’ll remember your overall rank at the end of the season, not your team value.”

that's where a good bench + transfers come in good

but yes good points - i'm already on this trio so pedro could easily make way for the likes of maddison or fraser when the fixtures turn

if price didnt then Sterling, but price does matter and is the essence of the game lol. so easily Dilva over Sterling. I rather pay 11 for Lukaku Hazard or Aguero than 11 for Sterling

Not much mention of Sterling in WC plans?

Think he is a great option, those fixtures are great. He always looks like one of City's most dangerous players when he plays. Don't think hes much of a rotation risk, think he was just being eased back after the WC

    1. MTPockets

        1. MTPockets

Quite possibly, but their squad and setup now a headfk and that's before Sane gets properly back into the mix.
Just too expensive for me to risk cameos/no shows.

For sure on potential. Very frustrating in fpl terms. If Sterling/Sane were nailed I'd happily shift one of Salah or Mane.

@ James Egersdorff - you're missing the point mate. Last year Mane and Salah were the same price. This year Salah is 3.5m more expensive - therefore Mane doesn't need to get 372 points, he simply needs to do 80% of Salah's output to match. The fact that he is beating him is just a bonus.

I don’t agree with it at all. That’s one way to look at it though.

You can never guarantee that cash spare from Mane will be used effectively. Plus, Salah at home will be captain for the owners most of the time. A brace from him and a Mane blank, then you mr OR get screwed. Can you see yourself captaining Mane at all home games?

Despite bringing bacon home, Mane isn’t playing that well either.

Cedric > Mendy would leave you with 9.2 right so i'd prob take Alli? Or as i have done gone with Moura and upgraded Zaha > Vardy with Leicester's amazing fixture run up until Dec 8th i can see him proving to be a great pick and a decent differential.

I'd rather own Mendy than Alonso. Especially if you don't own Alonso at the moment so you're paying the full price for him.

I'd do something about the Aguero+7+7 template, so boring. Do Aguero+Laca or something.

Thoughts on Trippier? Is he worth the 6.0 outlay even though he's prone to rotation with Aurier. I have a good bench so it wouldn't be the end of the world if he didn't play. Already have Mendy, Alonso, AWB and Bennett in defence

Sharpness isn't all about speed. Its still a week too early to get him.
Plus, I love him in the plum home games. After Liverpool he has 5 away games in 7.

Yeah I appreciate that, all I'm saying is that he's scoring goals without looking great. Fixtures look appealing, and I doubt WCers are leaving £1.5m in the bank for an easy transfer if he does his usual thing of scoring a few goals and becoming as essential as Aguero was a few weeks ago.

There's been nothing official, other than what Roy said pre-match, doesn't sound serious, I'd hope he would be back after the internationals

There must be some teams out there with, for this stage in the season, crazy team values!

I am at 101.5, with an awful team and think I ended last season around 103

    1. MTPockets
      8 years, 14 days ago

Yeah on 102.4 and ended last season with 102.9
But 600k rank post wc with Walcott, Mkhi...

Do we now have to chase the pounds not the points otherwise we will be priced out?
        Money is spoiling the sport...

£ helps but I'd happily swap cash for rank. Pricing quite extreme again this season, but hard to say whether it's a tweak or just bandwagoning. It's just a game right...

            bandwagoning imo
Just a game that determines my mood for the week

The good players know when to chase early and when to stay away. Walcott was a clear red flag imo despite his +0.3m. My team value is 102.0 atm, but last year it was 105+ coz of getting on Salah and Sterling very early. Prioritise on getting players you think will do well, but for sure go for players on the rise if you think they can continue performing (like Mendy this year)

On WC, which do you prefer?

    A - One of Robertson/Trippier (which?) & then Bennett & Holbjerg.
    or
    B - Shaw & Holebas & Billing.

    Thanks.

Tomkins and Salah to Alonso and Haz for a hit?

      Yes if you have Mane

    2. MTPockets
      8 years, 14 days ago

Maybe, although if Tomkins is fit again you're selling 2 higher potential options.

WC Second draft! How is this team looking?

    Hart or Patricio
    Alonso Robertson Mendy
    Hazard Mane Moura Pedro
    Vardy Aguero Wilson

    (WanB Bennet Mcdonald)

Will probably bring in someone like Maddison or Richarlson for Pedro when Chelsea fixtures toughen up.

    Cheers!

Very nice. Think I'd want Holebas and not Moura.

MOura will lose place soon when Son is back from Asian games. Better get Maddison and then do pedro to rich after che vs whm

Not for schurlle. Unless he is on penalties but guess its Mitrovic

    Salah + Firmino (che MCI)
    To
    Eriksen + Kane (hud Cardiff)
    Looks so tasty before WC

Is it mean to hope for some awkward international break injuries? On WC already, making things difficult for non WC'ers would be good 😀

Just need Salah out of the picture. 13mn For a mid is unreasonable
