Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Özil have started to draw attention to themselves in Fantasy Premier League as their form continued in Gameweek 7.

Both players registered attacking returns while options such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey disappointed once again. Alex Iwobi is also keeping himself in the mix for a first-team start.

Meanwhile, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson was at the heart of a 3-0 win over Fulham while Richarlison let down his large ownership with another blank.

Arsenal 2-0 Watford

Goals: Mesut Özil (£8.3m)

Own Goals: Craig Cathcart (£4.5m)

Assists: Alex Iwobi (£5.5m), Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m)

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) continued his impressive run of FPL points as Arsenal beat Watford 2-0. The Frenchman now has six goal involvements in his last five league appearances and can consider him unlucky not have a seventh. Craig Cathcart‘s (£4.5m) second-half own goal came from an Alex Iwobi (£5.5m) cross intended for Lacazette. He had more shots in this Gameweek 7 match than any other player. Crucially, it was another start for the former Lyon forward, who has featured from the beginning in every single one of the last four league matches. He has averaged 7.5 points per game in that time.

Also in-form and starting regularly is midfielder Mesut Özil (£8.3m). The German has been in the first XI for the last four Gameweeks and has scored in three of his last four appearances in all competitions. Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m) remains the most popular Arsenal midfielder (7.6% ownership), but Özil could prove the one to turn to. Aaron Ramsey (£7.4m) has historically been a fashionable option when looking for an Arsenal midfielder, but he has registered returns in just one match in 2018/19 and is likely affected by off-the-field contract issues. He certainly did not look happy to be substituted at the weekend, although manager Unai Emery was apparently happy with that reaction.

“I want a competitive spirit. When the players want to play every moment to help the team, I want this to help with his character for the team.” – Unai Emery

Replacing Ramsey was Iwobi, who delivered FPL points once again. The Nigerian international has appeared in only four Gameweeks but has registered attacking returns in three of them. Currently, Iwobi has a goal involvement every 55 minutes. That’s better than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 186 minutes and even Lacazette’s one every 76 minutes. If Ramsey does lose his place to Iwobi in the coming weeks, he could be one worth considering.

“(Iwobi) is working well every day. Three weeks ago he was outside the team because he had an injury. I am very happy with him because of his mentality. He can play right or left, maybe he can do more one on one. Also, I want him to stay nearer the box to score and finding assists for his teammates. This is the way for him.” – Unai Emery

There was a second clean sheet in a row for Arsenal, who have taken some steps to improve at the back. The Gunners allowed on average 14.6 attempts on goal in the first five Gameweeks, but this has dropped to 12.5 per game since then. Interestingly, they are conceding on average more big chances though. Accordingly, the jury is still out on whether Arsenal’s defence can be trusted with investment.

Centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulous (£5.2m) missed the match despite being cleared fit after an injury in Gameweek 6. Interestingly, Rob Holding (£4.4m) played in his place and picked up all three bonus points. If the Greek does lose his place in the team, then a regularly starting £4.4m option at Arsenal is worth being aware of. However, we currently suspect Sokratis was absent as a result of missing training in the week, nothing more.

Meanwhile, Bernd Leno (£4.8m) has finally been given a chance in the Arsenal goal. However, it was not through the choice of his manager but because of an injury to Petr Cech (£5.0m). The former Chelsea custodian sustained a hamstring injury and went off just before half-time at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. He looks to be out for several weeks.

“I don’t know now, tomorrow I know more. Maybe it’s two or three weeks, it’s muscular (hamstring). (Leno) is working very well with the goalkeeping coaches. I spoke with him and said the most important thing is when the team needs him to help us, to be prepared. He did that on Wednesday and today also – and against Vorskla. We have three very good goalkeepers. Petr Cech, his performances for us have been very important and his experience. Leno can learn by staying near with Petr Cech every day. I am very happy with him. He has waited for his moment and it’s arriving.” – Unai Emery

After making a perfect start in the first four matches of the season, Watford are now winless in their last three. However, there were some reasons for encouragement as they actually outperformed their hosts on both the shot and accuracy counts. The Hornets had 14 efforts on goal to Arsenal’s nine, and five on target to the Gunners’ two. With Bournemouth up next, Javi Gracia’s men are likely to find the net in that one.

That said, pinpointing who the primary goal threat for Watford is proving a difficult task. Roberto Pereyra (£6.3m) is without an attacking return since Gameweek 3, Troy Deeney (£6.1m) since Gameweek 4 and Andre Gray‘s (£6.0m) run of goals ended at the Emirates Stadium. The former Burnley striker had been looked at by some as a potential differential after he scored in back-to-back games. However, he has now been replaced in the second-half twice since Gameweek 6 when Watford have been chasing goals. That is never a good sign when considering Fantasy potential.

It was Isaac Success (£4.5m) who came on for him at Arsenal, a player who has earned praise for his performances in the League Cup of late. Gracia even name-checked him for his impact in his post-match quotes.

“One of (our chances) was in the moment when Troy (Deeney) had a very good chance with an amazing save, but not only free-kicks. We have created with Isaac Success with Roberto (Pereyra), there were different chances in different moments.” – Javi Gracia

Watford remained relatively unchanged from the side that drew 1-1 at Fulham in Gameweek 6. The only switch was right-back Marc Navarro (£4.3m) coming in for the injured Daryl Janmaat (£5.0m).

Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Cech (Leno 45′); Monreal, Holding, Mustafi, Bellerín; Xhaka, Torreira; Aubameyang (Welbeck 77′), Ramsey (Iwobi 63′), Özil; Lacazette.

Watford XI (4-4-2): Foster; Holebas, Kabasele, Cathcart, Navarro (Kiko Femenía 84′); Pereyra, Capoue, Doucouré, Hughes; Deeney, A Gray (Success 72′).

Everton 3-0 Fulham

Goals: Gylfi Sigurdsson x2 (£7.3m), Cenk Tosun (£6.8m)

Assists: Theo Walcott (£6.6m), Bernard (£5.9m)

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.3m) scored his second and third goals of the campaign as Everton swept Fulham aside at Goodison Park. It was a match in which we learned a fair amount about the Icelandic international.

Firstly, it became apparent that he had assumed penalty-taking duties, which had long been held by FPL veteran Leighton Baines (£5.3m). Now that the left-back has lost his place in the team to Lucas Digne (£4.8m), Sigurdsson has appeared to be given the nod. However, he has now missed two of his last three competitive spot kicks, one for Everton and one for Iceland at the World Cup). It could, therefore, be worth waiting to see whether he remains the Toffees’ taker. Either way, he showed great mental character to come back from the miss and score twice.

“If he can score 10 goals this season it will be fantastic. I hope that when he scores the first direct free-kick more will come as well. Like all the others, he needs confidence. All of our players who play in our attack need confidence.” – Marco Silva

“It could have gone either way for me mentally. I could have crumbled, but I just said to myself let’s forget about it, let’s move on and try and score. If that had been five or six years ago when I was a bit younger I think I would have gone into my shell. I had to just get on with it and make sure it didn’t cost us.” – Gylfi Sigurdsson

Perhaps hoping to clinch penalty responsibilities from Sigurdsson is Richarlison (£6.7m). The Brazilian was heavily backed to score against a porous Fulham defence in Gameweek 7 but picked up just three points. There were encouraging signs for his 21.4% ownership though, as the only player to register more shots than him at Goodison Park on Saturday (five) was colleague Sigurdsson (six).

Digne has made the left-back spot at Everton his own, having started the last four matches in a row. The former Barcelona man currently sits second among defenders for chances created in that time. His role in set pieces has helped him to such lofty figures. The fact that Everton were not keeping clean sheets had counted against him when compared with the similarly priced Matt Doherty (£4.5m), but the Toffees have finally registered one. It was a shut-out that not many were expecting with Fulham’s attacking style of play so should be to their credit.

It was a second away match in a row that Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) did not find any attacking returns. However, Fantasy managers shouldn’t lose too much faith in the Fulham striker considering that he still had more shots than any of his colleagues. In fact, only Richarlison and Sigurdsson registered more in the match than him. Furthermore, Goodison Park has historically been a tough place to visit for the Cottagers anyway. They have never won a league match there and have lost on their last 22 visits in a row.

Mitrovic was probably not helped by manager Slavisa Jokanovic making a slight change to the Fulham formation. He switched from the usual 4-3-3 to a 4-4-1-1 with Andre Schürrle (£5.9m) moving from the flanks to a number 10 role behind the Serbian. Meanwhile, Luciano Vietto (£5.5m) was pushed back from the front-line into midfield and Ryan Sessegnon (£6.1m) was used on the opposite flank.

The defensive problems look set to continue for the newly-promoted side. Timothy Fosu-Mensah (£4.5m) was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury sustained in the eighth minute while Joe Bryan (£4.9m) has been ruled out for a few weeks with a hamstring problem. That particular absence should probably see Sessegnon return to left-back.

“Bryan has a hamstring problem and will be out for a few weeks. Timothy has a shoulder problem and I cannot give you a clear answer, we must assess him.” – Slavisa Jokanovic

However, the return of central midfielder Tom Cairney (£4.8m) may prove a slight tonic for Jokanovic. He made his return to the side as a 64th-minute substitute at Everton, after being absent since Gameweek 3 with an injury.

“We start to lose the control at the beginning of the game and I am thinking about (Cairney) before they scored the first goal. This is positive news for us to have the opportunity to use him and Tim Ream too. In the end, we must recover our best player in the squad and find a way to use them in the best way.” – Slavis Jokanovic

Everton XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Digne, Zouma, Keane, Kenny; Gueye, Davies; Richarlison (Bernard 88′), Sigurdsson (Schneiderlin 90′), Walcott; Calvert-Lewin (Tosun 55′).

Fulham XI (4-4-1-1): Bettinelli; Bryan, Ream, Odoi, Fosu-Mensah (Christie 8′); Sessegnon, Seri (Ayité 84′), Zambo Anguissa, Vietto (Cairney 64′); Schürrle; Mitrovic.

    Best 3 big hitters

We have Aguero, Sterling, Kane, Salah and Hazard but if we want a balaced team only 3 can find a way to our squads.
As I want to get your opinion about this I'll write how I see it atm.

I agree that this GW will be a bit tricky where Kane play worst team in the league (sorry Cardiff fans) while Pool faces City. But I try to look a further as most probably, if you want Kane short term, last GW was the time to do it like Andy did for example. This week - hmmm not sure, maybe for free with WC in your pocket. In case you want Harry long term thats different story so I'll try to show my view at this.

    - Hazard
I think that he is simply a must have, last season Salah, best player in the league with highest number of FPL points, best form, who blanked only once this season and seems to continue his great World Cup form. I can't see any reason not to own him....Essential (yes, I think he is)

    - Salah
It's complicated. I think its the best way to describe it. He is doing everything good but can't finish in many of those chances. It's like beginning of last season and even that he has 3 goals and 2 assists in the league but he is more expensive now. His numbers are good but lack of finish is a bit annoing. He blanked 3 times but it was all away games and 2 of those were vs Spurs and Chelsea. When we look at stats which FPL gives us he is top in threat (452 with second Sterling 356 and Hazard third with 299) and his ITC index (Influence+Creativity+Threat) is second (86) just behind Hazard (86.6) and Sterling third (81.4) so he is about to explode imo esp with Hudd and Cardiff just after City (at home). I think that this week Kane can outscore him but mid term he must be in our teams also as a great captain option.

    - Aguero
Many seems to sell him for Kane and in this separate GW it can be a good move but when we look at next games and add a fact that many do it for a hit I'm not so sure. First thing is that main argument for sellers is that he plays 60 mins but he played 60 or less just twice while played full 90 twice too. His minutes has been managed lately because he is carrying a little issue and when he was 100% fit he played full games. He seems to be Pep's main man in attack and can't see him being subbed early vs Liv plus he has IB next to recover as he wasn't called by Scaloni for Argentina games. Again like Salah he has not easy game this GW so Kane can produce more points but when we look longer term I think Aguero defo pass the eye test (while Kane isn't there yet imo) and we defo want City attacker as they are fixtures proof and better team than Spurs definitely. FPL stats: he is top striker in all Influence, Creativity, Threat (ICT index obv too). Like I said City are fix proof but after Pool he has Bur, Spurs and Sou so cant go past this esp that those easy ones are at home and when Salah plays Arsenal, he has Southampton so great captain material.

    - Sterling
As we all look at Aguero vs Kane, Sterling looks a bit under a radar with his 4.3% ownership (was skipped as captain option in poll here few times too) but like Hazard he blanked only once (in one game he wasnt playing at all) and managed to score 4 and assist 2 times. He is passing eye test too so whats not to like..hmmm it's still Pep and it's City with buch of great mids in their team. As Aguero looks like main choice and even can play with Jesus, Raheem has a lot of competition esp with UCL there even he looks like first team player atm. I would simply be too scared to captain him and that makes him less good option than Kun (as I see it its him or the Argentinian). He is a great option for people who chasing the rank defo and even while I can justify Salah price mid term (fixtures, captain material) I can't do it for Sterling esp when I look at Aguero. I think it's the toughest choice atm for me as I really fancy him and I'm really curious what is your opinion about that.

    - Kane
Great pick short term (esp when someone got him last GW). Cardiff next makes him best captain option for sure. No doubt about that so no argue about him or Salah/Aguero this GW but as we look a bit further I am not so sure anymore. His ICT index for strikers is second after Kun but with big direrence (Kun-90.4, Kane-68.2, Mitrovic-64.5) He isn't passing eye test for me and Spurs does't look like top team (like City or Liverpool) that most concerns me. If I want to pay 12.5 mil I want him to pass eye test, play for good team in form and I'm not sure I will get that here esp when I can have Aguero at 11.2 in my case. So now, what can happen after that Hudd-Cardiff fun games? I have games like vs Watford or Brighton in mind where they struggle. Even vs Hudd they didn't look well. Their callendar isn't great too as WHU look much better now same as Wolves or CP (than they have Chelsea and Arsenal) so next 6 games are really tricky and the reason I look that far is what I wrote before. His owners may be blinded by his 2 goals last GW and if he do the same this GW they may end up without Salah vs Hudd or Aguero vs Bur (who look much worse than last season).

Also there is one more factor - how we set up our team with those who we pick as for example Arnautovic, Mitrovic or even Jimenez (given their form and price) are the way to go so no sense to pick Aguero and Kane imo. Same with mids as we have picks like Maddison or even those around 6.0 mil as we must have some attacker at that price to have balanced team.

That is how I see it. Obviously this GW (and maybe UCL games) can change looking at things but don't think it may change it complitely (if no injuries of course).

I base my thoughts on BPS - and Salah is rated worst out of all + not on pens.

Mane and Firmino in particular, better options..

Not sure actually. If a player make 10 shots: score 2 and miss 8 good chances plus loose few balls he can miss his baps with a CS+assist defender. Is that make him not worth to own?
Also Firmino plays as a mid so not sure about him.

If you base your thoughts on BPS you would never have owned Salah all last season. He was notorious for not getting BPS, the system penalises players like him.

You can have a "pretty good" looking side with all 4 (Sterling's not quite in the same group due to his rotation so far this season IMO)

This is how it could look

      4.5 / 4.0
      AWB / Bennet / Doherty / TAA / Digne
      Salah / Hazard / Maddison / Rich (4.5)
      Kane / Aguero / Ings

exactly this...i prefer the prem defenders this season, there are enough decent mid priced players around that appear to be keeping up for now at least (arnie, mitro, vardy, madd, fraser) to not require all the heavy hitters ,particularly as they arent all performing at 100 mph yet....besides agueros hat trick he hasnt got double figures as yet, same with kane besides this last match....so are they essential?

Well made points in this. The Kane stuff in particular. I don't think his fixtures are as good as they first appear. And his goals were another penalty and a header he couldn't really miss. Obviously they all count but I can't say I'm that worried about him. Hazard is top player this season. Totally agree on that. I'm actually thinking about going to Sterling Salah Hazard and having a cheap forward line but not convinced yet

I only have Salah and Aguero.
I'd love to be able to fit Hazard in but I decided to spread the money around with 3 expensive defenders, Vardy and 3 decent subs.
Sterling seems slightly overpriced when I would never captain him due to owning Aguero.
Kane - great option but prefer Aguero long term.
Salah and Aguero rotate captaincy well apart from this week when it's Vardy's turn.

Currently on Haz, Salah and Kun.

No plans to change that for a while either.

I like Kane but I have gone for Tripper on the basis that he might get CS points and if Kane scores it's likely to be a Tripper assist anyway.

Salah is a conundrum, but as I wrote yesterday, you really are going to need a Liverpool attacker from next week on and he's still the best option out there for Pool.

Haz speaks for itself. Kun gives you best City goal threat coverage.

      I'd vote Aguero/Kane/Hazard long term.
Hazard is the main man at Chelsea, and Aguero is head and shoulders above Jesus for City. Kane, I'd consider moving to Salah for gw10-14, but from gw15 up to the new year I think Kane will score very well with those fixtures.

Well..I was writing more for mid term rather than long term.
I partly agree but I will make my choice for gw15 onwards after those easier fix for Liverpool.

The thing about picking 3 from 5 mentioned (Should be 4 actually as Sterling is overpriced at 11mn for a non nailed mid) is to believe which of these 4 are sure to be in ucl next season.
For me to have talisman of teams that will be strongest to finish in top 4 eventually is best test long term.
      So imo
      Mcity
      Liv
Chel in that order should finish in top 4. Spurs is one I am iffy about as Manutd can come in frame if Mou is out or suddenly he gets his senses back.
So Salah Hazard Kun(when fit else Kane) looks my strategy till gw 14 atleast when Spurs have a good run.

      Good write-up!

I'm starting to get more and more convinced that Mark's GW1 build was pretty close to the "optimal one". It's gonna feel awful to not have Kane/Aguero when they have their hauls, but im fully convinced that the difference between the cheap strikers and prem strikers will be less than the difference between the cheap mids and premium mids.

When I finally get around to using my WC i'll prob opt for that kind of set-up. Getting 3-4 premium mids and 3 "budget" strikers. As of now Hazard, Sterling and Salah looks the most secure route to getting points, but im not ruling out players like Eriksen, Mane, KDB and Alli for that 4th spot.

A decent "build" would be something like:

      4.5-4.0
      6.0-5.0-4.5-4.5-4.0
      13.0-11.0-11.0-9.0-5.5
      7.0-5.5-7.0

Im aware that this structure is "too pricey", but many players that fit this build will have been bought at lower pricepoint. I dont have a particularly good TV but can still affor this team pretty easily.

      Ryan-Button
      Trippier-TAA-Doherty-Yedlin-WAN
      Salah-Hazard-Sterling-Eriksen-Hughes

Cheers. I think that Mark was right too. If not that Aguero big haul think a lot of people could set up like this.
Mitro, Arnie, Zaha, Jimenez, Ings...plenty but now, with Kun form think I want him.
Also your team is too heavy in mid as we have some good around 6.5 mil mids so I would prefer Alonso in def for Eriksen there.

Nice summary - interesting that there isn’t consensus on this.

Personally I think Kane & Hazard will stay in my team for the foreseeable future, given that they are so central to their teams accruing goals (and fantasy points). Salah is bottom of the 4 - 13m for a player without pens, surrounded by cheaper attackers who are matching him for points doesn’t seem worth it for me. Mitrovic, Alonso -> Firmino, Holebas next week is far more appealing than losing Kun/Kane/Haz to fit in Mo.

      I agree on 99%

1% where I differ is I really do consider getting rid of Kun. For Vardy. Front three Mitro Arnie Vardy with beast def and midfield seems good to me

      1. Hazard (CHE attack cover): Best in form. Penalties. Captain material. Class apart..
      2. Sterling/Kun (City attack cover): Sterling... Similar price. Kun injury niggles & limited minutes.
      3. Salah/Mane (Liv att cover):
Mane.... 3m diff matters a lot.. Salah not on pens. Hope Mane covers atleast 75% of salah points.
      4. Kane (Spurs cover): More assured minutes than Kun as premium forward. No doubt about his class. Gets BPS when scores.

Robertson and TAA have more clean sheets between them than Salah and Mane have goals.

I haven't seen enough from Liverpool to go through the upheaval of bringing in then deconstructing a triple up. There's too much depth in their squad for my liking this year. Salah subbed on 60 and Mane regressing is the clincher for me. I would consider Firmino as he is starting to look viable at 9.4 but am dubious about the rest. Just the one transfer next week to bring in TAA for AWB for me, Clive

    Ryan
    Alonso - Doherty - AWB - Trippier - Shaw

Hennesey to someone else. You don't want two CRY deffenders with fixtures getting worse.

    A. David Silva, Jimenez > Vardy & Knockaert
    B. David Silva > Maddison
    C. None of that

Does anyone know if points from tonight's game are included in your total for September (as that's when the GW started) or October?

Mane or KDB is going to be a difficult choice very soon.

Fpl wise , for me, I would always go for Sterling if I want a City midfielder

Seems a bit short sighted to me. Liverpool have great fixtures coming up.
Having said that I prefer the Roberston, TAA, Salah triple up mentioned earlier on this page.

Anyone else a bit fed up of Huddersfield and Cardiff this year? Would be a really interesting relegation battle otherwise with Newcastle, Fulham, Saints etc struggling to get firing

Early fixtures were bad for them in comparison to others.
Expect them all to be in the mixer soon.
(Hammers just did a bounce after their dreadful start...hope its not a dead cat one, after all it was against MUN)

1 week punt (probably on Dilva -> Son) then WC. Thoughts on this team please...

    Patricio 4.0
    TAA Alonso Doherty AWB Pereira
    Salah Haz Maddison Knockaert Westwood
    Kun Arnie Mitro

    Suggestions very welcome
