Sam Vokes and David Brooks are the headline act in our latest Scout Notes article.

The pair were involved in Wales’ solitary goal against Spain in a 4-1 thrashing, but that comes off the back of recent form in Fantasy Premier League.

Their match was one of four international friendlies played on Thursday.

Turkey 0-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Caglar Söyüncü (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
Cenk Tosun (£6.7m) – 45 minutes

Asmir Begovic (£4.5m) – 45 minutes

Caglar Söyüncü may be without a single Premier League minute since joining Leicester City in the summer, but he continues to prove his worth to the Turkey national team. The centre-back played 90 minutes in this 0-0 draw with Bosnia. With Wes Morgan (£4.5m) suspended for the next two matches, Söyüncü and Jonny Evans (£4.9m) are the potential replacements.

Cenk Tosun featured only as a second-half substitute for Turkey, while Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic also came on at the interval for Bosnia.

Iraq 0-4 Argentina

Sergio Romero (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
Roberto Pereyra (£6.2m) – 45 minutes

An Argentina side still without Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) were comfortable winners over Iraq.

The impact on FPL was also minimal with Manchester United’s reserve goalkeeper Sergio Romero playing the whole match, and Roberto Pereyra getting 45 minutes in the second-half.

However, the Watford did end his goal-drought, which stretches back to Gameweek 3, with his 53rd-minute strike.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Otamendi (£6.1m) was absent from the matchday squad despite being included in the latest selection. There does not appear to be any sort of injury. He could well be involved when Argentina face Brazil in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Wales 1-4 Spain

Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) – 90 minutes
Ben Davies (£5.6m) – 62 minutes
Ethan Ampadu (£4.4m) – 50 minutes
Sam Vokes (£5.3m) – 90 minutes
Aaron Ramsey (£7.4m) – 90 minutes
David Brooks (£5.0m) – 45 minutes
Andy King – 40 minutes

David De Gea (£5.9m) – 45 minutes
Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.4m) – 63 minutes
Álvaro Morata (£8.7m) – 90 minutes
Kepa Arrizbalaga (£5.5m) – 45 minutes
Jonny Castro (£4.5m) – 27 minutes

Sam Vokes will be hoping his latest international goal will see him continue his run of four consecutive league starts for Burnley. However, it did come at the end of Wales’ mauling at the hands of Spain.

Bournemouth’s David Brooks, with back-to-back league goals for the first time in his career after Gameweek 8, provided the assist in a 45-minute appearance.

Tottenham’s Ben Davies was used as a centre-back in a three-man defence that was torn apart by the Spanish.

Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu was forced off in the 50th minute having fallen awkwardly under a tackle. He is already considered to be a doubt for Tuesday’s meeting with the Republic of Ireland.

“Ethan (Ampadu) just extended his knee a little bit in the second half, and we will assess it and see how it is.” – Ryan Giggs

There was less of a Premier League presence in the Spain side. Manchester United and Chelsea goalkeepers David de Gea and Kepa Arrizabalaga rotated between the sticks at half-time while Álvaro Morata managed a 90-minute appearance with no direct involvement in any of the goals scored.

Cesar Azpilicueta was replaced in the 63rd minute by Wolves man Jonny, who made his first international appearance in the process. Marcos Alonso (£6.9m) unused substitute.

France 2-2 Iceland

Hugo Lloris (£5.4m) – 90 minutes
Lucas Digne (£4.8m) – 90 minutes
Paul Pogba (£8.1m) – 67 minutes
Olivier Giroud (£7.8m) – 90 minutes
Kurt Zouma (£5.0m) – 45 minutes

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£6.0m) – 71 minutes
Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) – 80 minutes

It was a nervy night for France who had to rely on a late show of class from substitute Kylian Mbappé to avoid defeat to Iceland.

Hugo Lloris conceded twice in the first hour, Kari Arnason heading home a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner for the second goal. Everton man Lucas Digne played the whole match at left-back, with colleague Kurt Zouma coming on at half-time.

Paul Pogba came off in the 67th minute while Olivier Giroud lasted the whole match up front. Mamadou Sakho and N’Golo Kante remained on the bench.

Is 3 Wolves defenders too much?

Or to put it another way - I already have Patricio and Bennett but want Doherty, would you sell Bennett or AWB to get him?

Totally get the argument that 2 defenders and a keeper from the same team is excessive and all 3 are outperforming everyone else in their price bracket (AWB has 1 more point than Bennett but has terrible fixtures coming up) and Wolves have been a great source of points.

Rest of the defence is Robertson, Alonso and Trippier

    Thoughts?

Nah. You made your bed already by picking Bennett.

It's a mistake to go 3 Wol defenders because it kills a slot in case someone like Moutinho or Jimenez (especially Jimenez) become options.

        I agree with this.

I don't think you need to do anything to your defence really, but if you want Doherty I kind of think you have to sell Bennett. True, AWB doesn't have fixtures. Are you planning on playing 5 at the back? 4? It feels like a luxury transfer to get Doherty into your team

    2. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

Palace's fixtures aren't terrible forever, so would prefer to keep AWB as 5th than Bennett. But either option ok really.

AWB is a season keeper for me.

If you really want Doherty, sell Bennett for him

Yea too much, with your 3 premium def + bennett still great if you playing 4 def

Cheers. Think you're right in that it ties me to playing 5 at the back, just think Bennett is a better option than AWB at the same time

Think I know the transfers I want to make over the next few weeks after GW9 so Doherty in makes sense for this week. Cheers

Still thinking there is so much value for Wolves defender. If failed, you can sell Patricio and maybe buy Fabs. Doherty has good stats and my team will play 433 to accomodate him.

Doherty should let you play any combination.
Priced like a bench player but good enough to start.

    Rate my WC:

    Fabianski (Button)
    Robbo TAA Doherty Pereira (Bennett)
    Salah Hazard KDB Richa (Obiang)
    Aguero Arnie (Kamara)
    ITB: 0.0

    1. Wait KDB starts firing or bring in now for 9.7?
    2. Richa or maddy? richa oop, maddy great fixtures
    3. Any other advices? still got alonso (6.7) and trippier (6.1) in my team

    Any thoughts are appreciated, cheers

      Too early on KdB.

Lots of value strikers. Free up some money by doing KdB > Maddison and Kamara > Wilson.

Yea maybe wait him to play first, just hope his price not rising up
Idk id rather spread the fund on the premium def than midpriced striker, anw thanks mate

    2. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

      1. I'd get him on a wc, or at least leave a KDB sized placeholder/£itb
      2. Richarlison
      3. Don't like bench options that don't play, but yeah otherwise difficult to afford those mids.

Ikr, salah kdb hazard in one team is beauty, but why bennett and obiang dont play? they got most minutes recently, at least have 2 bench players that actually play will be enough imo

I meant Kamara. Could be enough just a personal opinion.
If opting for a filler would try to choose the cheapest (usually a defender)

Played my WC and Salah-less. Current team with £4.4m ITB:

    De Gea (Boruc)

    Alonso, Monreal, Trippier (Bennett, AWB)

    Hazard, Knockaert, Fraser, Maddison (Hojbjerg)

    Lacazette, Wilson, Aguero.

    Looking at either:
    - A: De Gea, Hojbjerg, Lacazette -> Ryan, Salah, Mitrovic
    - B: Trippier, Hojbjerg, Lacazette -> Doherty, Salah, Mitrovic

Would you recommend A, B, neither, or something else?

Also, planning to wait on International Break as perhaps Lacazette and Trippier will rise again, and interesting to see Salah minutes against Swaziland.

A team that needs some TLC? Thinking Milner to Richarlison for this week then next week WC. Thoughts?

Don't really want to take any hits - 1FT, £2.2M itb

    Patricio (Fab)
    Mendy, Robbo, Boly (AWB, Rico)
    Salah, Milner, Bilva, Fraser (Billings)
    Aguero, Vardy, Zaha

Who is captaining Salah? I captained him for the first 3 gameweeks. The only time then that I lost out to Aguero's points was when he had an 'equally' good fixture and went mental against Huddersfield.

Between a city player and Salah. See how the teams line up with injuries and go from there.

Only difference I would say is that Aguero is defo on pens if that sways.

I’ve been planning a GW10 wildcard for some time now, due to fixture swings of Spurs and Bournemouth and my desire to jump on some decent fixtures (I have liverpool in mind).
    Team is:
    Alisson Hamer
    Alonso Trippier Doherty AWB Bertrand
    Hazard Mané Dilva Fraser Kenedy
    Mitro King Kane

Do you think I’d be forcing a wildcard too early and will regret it? Or good move to stay ahead of the curve?

Yeah mate. Not sure what I was thinking pre season, have managed to squeeze and goal and a couple of cleanies out of him but benching a £5.0m defender most weeks can't have been the most efficient decision

On the surface it looks alright, but fixtures turning, KDB and Aurier back bringing competition to Silva and Trippiers minutes. Some dead wood (Bertrand), want Salah. Wildcard is tempting me

      Potential option.
Issue is he’s a bit too much as a bench fodder, potentially not reliable as a 5th mid.

He’s third on my list of sub 6 million mids that I’m interested in, it’s just that Newcastle look pretty anaemic.

Watchlist for me. Haven’t seen enough consistency from him. Not ready to make him my 4th mid, but too pricy to be my fifth because I see defenders and forwards that I would rather spend funds on than upgrade my playing 4.5 mid.

I’m seriously looking at switching the funds from Aguero to sterling - it’s just difficult to classify him and Aguero in the same bracket due to price.

Strange since Sterling outscored him last season for points, but I can’t bring myself to captain him when I won’t captain Salah, like I would Aguero.

Nobody has smashed weak teams like Aguero has in the past. His rate of braces and hat tricks against bottom 6 teams is phenomenal. So when City play a captainable fixture Aguero just seems the better choice.

They will both score similar for a similar price. I own Aguero but thinking of switching to Sterling when I eventually wildcard. Whichever one you go for, stick with it. Long term both will pay off.

Is Trent safe now after Lovren/Gomez played so well against Man City? Is Pereira a rotation risk with Ghezzal? Better to play it safe with Chilwell?

    A) TAA
    B) Pereira
    C) Chilwell
    D) Other £5.2m
    E) Any defender for -4

Already own Robertson as my only big defender that I am keeping. Need the Trippier downgrade money to fund Ings > Arnie in GW11, so these are my options I think. Answers appreciated

Not sure about safe, but his attacking threat is better against weaker teams so I imagine he will come in.

2 weeks off for fatigue as well.

I’m doubling up since I can’t shove Mane and Salah in together.

TAA was never safe from rotation, so I find it funny that the City match has so many people talking/worrying about TAA.

I have no interest in LEI defense. Would rather have a budget option from BHA or NEW than LEI defender.

There's a chance that TAA is benched but I dont think he will. He wasn't great against Napoli and that's why he was benched against City. Developing Gomez at CB, and TAA at rightback is what I think Klopp will ultimately aim for, but City was a huge game and it looks like he didnt feel comfortable playing TAA against Sane/ Sterling

My only worry is Lovren got man of the match I think, or at least he should've as he was immense.

but still prone to high profile mistakes. He could have conceded a penalty. Gomez has been fantastic at CB. Fullback width is so crucial to the way Liverpool play, more so against teams that defend deep. Gomez did ok against City but TAA is more dynamic offensively

Not casuals. He’s a great area to option.

Casuals would look at him getting zero last week and ship. If you don’t like him, more points for us.

B easily. There are multiple games in the next few weeks where he is the best captaincy option.

KDB rarely hauls so getting him in early is nothing but a risk. Sure he might score or assist, get himself 8-10 points or so but he's not going to be a differential that streaks you ahead in the game. The more likely outcome with him is he comes off the bench and gets you 1 point to begin with.

I have also issue, should I pick Arnie and Salah or Mane and Firmino.
Salah is great captain option, but pretty sure Im not gonna captain Mane or Firmino but have Haz and Kun and they have good fixtures.

Firmino is definitely underrated on here, but I would get Salah.

I have Salah and believe he will score big soon but understand he may not be an option for all. I would like to get Firminho as well in especially at 9.3. Liverpool will score and any of their attackers will get points

I never had Salah this season.
Did not see the value spoke about regression to the mean - going back to his real level etc.

Your other alternative is double liverpool defence robertson and VVD.
      They look solid.
Vardy is also a good option.

Depends what you do with your extra funds if you are going without Salah.

Firmino is away on international duty with Brasil, with Klopp talking warmer about Sturridge I would be worried that Bobby might start on the bench againt Huddersfield.

Salah might not be justifying his price presently, but there aren't many other premium midfielders doing that apart from Sterling and Hazard. The likes of De Bruyne or Eriksen might come good when they recover from injuries but neither of them have a proven goal scoring record like Salah. People should realise its only 8 GWs and still plenty of time to go in the season.

Kind of by accident over the next few weeks I will be left with a lot of cash in the bank for any number of moves.
I am wondering if this is a more viable tactic long term.
Keeping money in the bank and just rearranging mid-price strikers midfielders and high price defenders.

    1. Pinturicchio10
      7 years, 9 months ago

Unspent funds are wasted funds. Unless it's a very small number of course. Anything over 1m long term isn't a great idea for me.

Not necessarily true there are many players who are out performing thier price the wolves lads etc.
I think any number of Brighton/Newcastle/West Ham players have the potential to do the same.
That is the reason I will have the cash in the bank making those switches.

I'm far from stupid, but yeah gwk9 I'll have just Robertson. The plan was Mané / Salah in but I didn't see as much potential in a -4 for Silva -> Mané / Salah as Wan -> Mendy. Will get Mané for gwk10. It's just one gwk, no big deal at all.
