The Scout Squad panel return to offer their long-list of candidates to be considered for our regular Scout Picks selection on Friday afternoon.

The 72 nominations will be narrowed down to a squad of 15 (with the starting XI not exceeding £83m and no club represented by more than three players) ahead of the later-than-usual Gameweek 10 deadline at 14:00 BST on Saturday.

Our three FFS regulars – Az, Joe and Paul – are joined again this week by Peter Kouwenberg, who has three top 500 finishes to his name.

The clued-up quartet explain their noteworthy squad selections and omissions in the article below.

Liverpool assets are well-represented as expected, with Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah being the only two names this week that the panel unanimously nominated.

Az has backed Manchester City to flourish in their match against Spurs at Wembley, while Paul is lumping on Southampton players ahead of the visit of Newcastle United.

Joe and Peter are jumping on Arsenal’s form with the Gunners up against a Crystal Palace side who are yet to score at home this season.

The availability of Eden Hazard (currently nursing a back injury) will play a big part in determining our likely XI for Gameweek 10.

I feel that picking Spurs or Man City players seems an unnecessary risk for their head-to-head at Wembley, though there’s no shortage of popular, form options in the mid-price bracket right across the positions.

Among the differential candidates, Cedric Soares and Abdoulaye Doucoure could be worth considering.

The Southampton right-back’s all-round style of play is well-suited to the Bonus Points System (BPS) and he has earned maximum bonus in each of the last two occasions his side have claimed a clean sheet – including last weekend’s goalless draw at Bournemouth.

Indeed, Cedric’s total of six bonus is equal to the rest of the Saints defence and goalkeeper combined.

His visitors Newcastle have blanked in three of their last four Gameweeks and have conceded almost double the number of chances (14 to eight) down their left flank in that period.

That points to a successful day for the Saints’ right-back, whose nine successful crosses has been bettered by just five other defenders.

Doucoure has stepped up his form ahead of a home match with Huddersfield.

The Hornets’ midfielder delivered his season-high haul of 11 points at Wolves last time out and has now matched last term’s total of four assists.

Over the last four Gameweeks, he is Watford’s leading player for both shots and chances created, with eight and seven respectively.

Huddersfield arrive at Vicarage Road having failed to keep a clean sheet on their travels, conceding 11 away goals – only Fulham (15) have allowed more.

A home tie against relegation contenders Cardiff City sees Liverpool assets dominate my thinking.

Captain Poll front-runner Mohamed Salah is my top midfield choice – his 15 shots at home is top among his team-mates and he looks likely to add to his three Anfield strikes when Neil Warnock’s troops drop by.

I fancy a Reds defensive double up to also prosper, after seeing how my fellow Scoutcaster Luke has so successfully adopted this tactic. With no goals conceded at home in the league this season, I think selecting both Andy Robertson and Alisson will prove savvy.

Arsenal’s impressive rout of Leicester City on Monday has seen me also triple up on Gunners assets. They travel to a Crystal Palace side that has yet to score at Selhurst Park and has conceded five times.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s back-to-back braces in two substitute appearances earn him a spot in my picks. Arsenal’s chief creator Mesut Ozil earns my vote too and Hector Bellerin’s rampaging runs down the wing, coupled with that awful Palace home record, could see him net returns at both ends of the pitch.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth attacking coverage looks essential against a Fulham side with the worst defensive record of any Premier League side at this stage of a season. Josh King gets my vote with spot-kick duties, two goals and the most close-range shots (eight) of any of his team-mates over the last four Gameweeks.

Watford also look a strong source of points when Huddersfield drop by. Hornets top scorer Roberto Pereyra appears to be the best of their attacking options, with four goals already this campaign. Meanwhile, defender Jose Holebas looks exceptional value at £4.8m, given he has racked up four assists and two double-digit FPL points hauls.

Liverpool’s front three get the nod in my Scout Squad, despite them all being a little bit off-form. However, it’s hard to see Cardiff City offering too much resistance at Anfield. So these three, plus Andrew Robertson and Alisson in my picks show just how one-sided I think this game will be. Liverpool will be (and rightly so) frustrated with their display against Huddersfield and they were actually lucky to win the game. They need a good result against Cardiff, and I think they will get a comfortable win here.

There are some unfamiliar faces in my squad selection this week. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gets top spot after scoring four times from the bench in two weeks. It will be interesting to see whether he plays in Europe, but I’d be amazed if he wasn’t let off the leash against Palace, who are pretty woeful at the moment.

Ross Barkley also comes into the match against Burnley with form, having scored the equaliser against Manchester United following a goal and an assist against Southampton. With Eden Hazard’s dodgy back meaning he is a slight doubt, it will be interesting to see if Maurizio Sarri shuffles the deck and I think Barkley could be a decent punt this week.

Roberto Pereyra as well, after a run of blanks, got a goal against Wolves and I think he is likely to register more attacking returns against Huddersfield, who are yet to win this season.

Elsewhere, I’ve gone for Antonio Rudiger over Marcos Alonso to save some funds and for a player who is registering better attacking returns.

Shane Duffy, with two clean sheets in as many games, is looking a real threat in the box too.

I also like the “OOP” prospects of Ricardo Pereira, although his early substitution against Arsenal is a bit of a cause for concern. He did score a wonderful goal the week before, though, so I’m hoping he can build on that rather than fade into obscurity. With his run of fixtures, he could provide a great option at £5.1m.

Marko Arnautovic is one that I am really hoping gets going soon rather than later, having brought him into my own team two weeks ago. His stats are amazing, and despite Aleksandar Mitrovic ticking over with an assist last week and a good-looking game against Bournemouth, I think this is the time that Arnautovic will shine. The fact that I’ve gone for him and Jamie Vardy shows that I think this game will have goals in it – which doesn’t bode too well for my solitary playing goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski.

Peter said…

Liverpool welcome Cardiff City to Anfield in the stand-out fixture of the week. Having not conceded a goal at home since February and with some rotation and injury doubts even before Wednesday’s Champions League fixture, I’m hoping that Liverpool’s Alisson, Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah represent “safe” selections. The Reds have only conceded two big chances at Anfield this season, although four other teams match or better their record of two goals scored per home game.

One of those sides is Bournemouth, who let me down last week in their stalemate with Southampton. The Cherries have been less prolific on their travels than at the Vitality Stadium, but this week drop in at the away striker’s favourite ground: Craven Cottage.

Surprisingly, both Manchester United and Arsenal have conceded more big chances and shots on target at home than the Lillywhites, but crucially Fulham are already in double figures for goals conceded after just four games. There have, however, been goals at both ends so I think Ryan Fraser, Josh King and Aleksandar Mitrovic will all play a part in a thriller.

A trip to Wembley would be a daunting prospect for most teams, but Manchester City are in imperious form at the moment and a well-rested Sergio Aguero has had more attempts (19) and big chances (five) than any other striker in the last four matches.

I’m even prepared to double up with a Citizen who is (notionally) a defender as Benjamin Mendy joins my selections, despite the fact that he will be directly opposed to Kieran Trippier, whose own offensive statistics are arguably stronger.

I struggle with my Arsenal choices at the best of times, let alone when the league’s most in-form striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (five goals in his last four matches) has had to emerge from the bench to bag his goals and when Hector Bellerin can go from zero to hero in the space of 90 minutes by recording an own-goal and then claiming two assists and a bonus point. Mesut Ozil, with three double-figure hauls in his last four games, probably should have been on my radar sooner, but I’m never entirely sure who will start for the Gunners.

In any event, all three some in for what I hope won’t be an exercise in chasing last week’s points, particularly as hosts, Crystal Palace remain without a goal in four games at Selhurst Park, conceding five in the process.

The Community Champion

This week’s champion is fclackless, who has enjoyed eight green arrows in a row and sits at an impressive 195th in the world after Gameweek 9.

The community champion who has the best lead over the Scouts during 2018/19 will win a £100 Amazon voucher (currently we can only offer Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com vouchers).

Last week’s champion, FPL Mountaineer, lost out to our Scout Picks 50-39 with his line-up of Fabianski (2); Walker (0), Robertson (8), Doherty (1); Ozil (12), Walcott (3), Sterling (0), Salah (8); Lacazette (2), Ings (2), Wilson (1).

Eden Wizard’s Gameweek 2 victory over the Scout Squad crew by a score of 77-68 remains the deficit to beat.

What are your biggest takeaways from the Champions League games?

Is Salah seemingly confirming he is Liverpool's number 2 penalty taker significant? Are you more convinced now that Spurs should be avoided in FPL, at least until the fixtures turn? What about the rest of the Liverpool side: will TAA start? Is Robertson nailed on? And what about the formation switch?

Manchester City looked very strong - are you considering KDB? Does Aguero's rest mean he's a captaincy option? What about Sterling's chances to play this weekend? And finally, once again Lukaku looked off it. Are there any Manchester United options worth exploring?

Man Utd and Spurs are no way to go right now, but form is temporary and after 4-5 gameweeks easy to rethink.

Salah and Robbo looks like season holders in Klopp`s team.

Aguero nailed, KDB nailed but need some time, in all other areas of Pep team I want more info and want to wait till December.

          - Avoid Utd
          - Spurs avoid defence. Monitor Spurs attack - Kane looked more like his old self yesterday with Eriksen back and Moura not playing an advanced role.
Liverpool - no clue - Cardiff is a good time to rest players IMO and only Robbo, VVD and Alisson look nailed in defence. Need to hope for some leaked team news before 14.00 on Saturday IMO
City - Jesus is still crap so Aguero should be safe. Midfield looks a minefield of rotation with everyone fit. Laporte. Ederson and Mendy look solid defensive options,

But he is getting chances. Eventually it will click and he will start banging them in. The dilemma is for Poch. Does he stick to this tactical play of using Moura as the most attacking player or does he go back to Kane being the main man (like last season where Moura didn't get a start). For FPL I prefer the latter as when Kane gets going he will score a lot.

I'm waiting at least a week to think about KDB. I don't think the score will be huge this week, or price rises, and don't see any reason to go now. If I had the funds I can see why Richarlison > KDB makes sense this week though

Eriksen back is good news for both Eriksen and Kane if it means Moura is pulled back to a right sided role. This may change again though if/when Alli is back. Either way it can be monitored until GW15, Spurs assets aren't required until then.

Good to see Salah scoring again, in fact good to see Mane and Firmino scoring too, hopefull that breeds confidence in the front 3. Salah playing as central striker is potentially good news too. Not a clue what is going on with the Gomez, TAA, Lovren merry go round though, just be done with it and get Robbo, VVD or Allison instead and avoid the headaches! Shaqiri should also be monitored if he plays his way into the starting 11.

KDB should be considered yes. aguero not a captaincy option this weekend due to fixture, thereafter he may be although minutes continue to be managed and Pep clearly feels Jesus is able to start important games - which hints at further rotation with Aguero in future. 6 days between City's match and the Spurs fixture on Monday so don't see why Sterling can't play, although I'm concerned he, Mahrez and Sane are competing for 2 slots in the team....

Man Utd - come off it, I wouldn't watch any of that shower even if they were playing in my own garden.

            Not even Martial?? 😉

Fully agree with your Spurs assessment and mostly agree with Liverpool. I have TAA and won't sell but I wouldn't be buying now either. Shaqiri is an interesting one. I wonder if the Gomez/Lovren/TAA thing might just be some rotation we're going to deal with - I had thought a first choice option would come through and play most games but I'm less sure now.

Do you think KDB is less rotation-prone than the others? I get the sneaky feeling that Pep will start Jesus in a league game when we're not expecting it, though maybe alongside Aguero not instead of him

Martial? Hahahahaha! In all seriousness he is a good player who performs best in the left wing forward position, but rarely gets to play there because they bought Sanchez and bumped him out the team. I'd need to see a long term Sanchez injury or an alternative role for Sanchez before considering Martial. Furthermore, Man U over the last 2 or 3 years share their goals around way too much so no single player ever has a decent goal involvement percentage.

I also have TAA and he is going for Robertson. You get murdered in rank every time Pool keep a clean sheet without at least one of them, its the same with Man City this season or like Man U defenders last season. Yeah you would think Klopp would want a settled Centre back partnership but apparently not.

I think KDB is less rotation prone yeah. Certainly if last season is anything to go by. And they didn't sign a 60 million player in his position in the summer either... I think Pep quite likes the left foot-right foot balance in centre midfield too which boosts his prospects. I imagine we will see the 2 Silva's competing for a slot alongside KDB in the majority of games. Agree with you about Jesus, he could go for the formation he used v Huddersfield aswell like you say.

Yeah, agree on the Silva/Silva battle. And Martial/United too, unfortunately. He's an option in draft maybe but not in FPL.

Are you looking at City defence? For me, Robertson easily stays in my team and I'll be looking to move TAA for Mendy next week. Not bothered this week but I do think he's the one I want going forward and his ownership will only continue to grow if he keeps getting starts. 3 CS and 6a in 6 games is so good, and 5 straight CS for City right now

Yeah I have Mendy, got him on wildcard last week. He's great, and still picking up attacking returns unlike Alonso. In fact as City also have a better defence than Chelsea, I'd say Mendy is a better pick than Alonso right now.

I think anyone having a back 3 of 2 city defenders and a Liverpool, or 2 Liverpool and a city is probably onto a winner. One of each and a rotating cheaper defender like Doherty/chilwell/holebas/yedlin etc etc could also work well though I think.

My memory maybe be dodgy but didn't Gomez play some games at left-back for Liverpool before. Not realistic to think Robbo going to play every game. Still Moreno lurking somewhere.
Liverpool defence going to be like City midfield with some rotation in all areas. Not enough to discourage ownership for Robbo but probably enough to make TAA/Gomez/Lovren slightly riskier picks.
Not convinced by any Spurs or Utd assets.
City mids are going to score you pts just going to have to average them out over a period of GWs then decide if it's worth it against price.

Agree with you but most here seem to think Robbo will start the 38 PL games. Probably trying to convince themselves, as owners.

          United - LOL

City - Midfield very very unpredictable

          Spurs - Trippier?

Liverpool - BIG SHAQ (he's being unleashed), I reckon he'll start Cardiff & Fulham at home but miss out vs Arsenal.

As a TAA I'm none the wiser when I was hoping to learn something. Positive is he has not been totally dropped and obviously still in the mix, but negative is there's now a clear 3 way rotation for 2 places between TAA, Gomez and Lovren. Is TAA the CL player? Considered sideways switch to Lovren and him not playing this match makes it more likely he will start PL this weekend. But have Doherty on the bench to come on if TAA doesn't play, so happy to hold for now and watch for more data points. To add I already have Robertson, this is just for my Liverpool defence double up. (Like my Patricio and Fabianski combo too much to bring in Alison)

I was waiting for the Liverpool defence to come through unscathed - I've now done my 1FT, Trippier to VVD who will line up with Robbo and Mendy.

In 2 weeks I'll have the option for a 2FT to get Salah in if I lose Kun. Or for a hit next week. Need to chew over that. It would allow subsequently drafting in Laporte (for Pereira) to triple up with Mendy and Ederson.

Milner is number 1 but wasn’t playing. Salah took a penalty when Mane and Firmino were on the pitch, then after Salah was subbed Mane took (and missed) a penalty. So it looks like possibly being order of preference:
            1. Milner
            2. Salah
            3. Mane

Salah being seemingly second choice from the penaltyspot is massive. As Milner Wont start every game and will Get subbed early for some, that could very well lead to Mo getting 2-3 more goals by the end of the season. That could potentially bring owners a lot more points when adding effects on bonus and captaincy.

This is IF hes second choice. The pen v Red Star only suggests this, it doesnt confirm it.

Why? Robbo looks like season holder and have CAR and FUL in next 3, Ederson won`t haul obviously, even if he can keep cs in hard fixtures.

Because you're selling the highest scoring goalkeeper in the game for the Brighton goalkeeper, and also Monreal who's next game is against the weakest attack in the league so far. Plus he's got attacking potential.

I don’t like TAA, Hughes and Ings, and can’t afford Arnie next GW

Nah looks ok, Wilson still one good fixture, midfield template and good defence.

              Peoples thoughts on Shaqiri?

4 assists in his last 3 prem appearances, another assist last night?

I just brought him in for Richarlison..

              Begovic

              Robertson Alonso Trippier Shaw (AWB)

              Salah Shaq Haz Maddy (Billing)

              Lacaz Vardy (Kamara)

Looking at Lacaz to Arny and AWB to Mendy next week..

I sold Richie too - only problem with Shaqiri is will he keep his place. If so it's a great pick

I've still got WC and ranked 15k at the moment.. Want to break into 10k so thought I'd take the punt

The way I see it is he'll start on the weekend and maybe not against arsenal (but I'll bench him vs arsenal), then the week after I reckon he'll start vs Fulham at home too..

I'm planning WC around gwk 15/16 so don't mind the punt for a few weeks.

Game time a major issue I would guess

I agree, but as I said for a short term punt I see him starting 2 of the next 3, and if you have 1/2 decent bench players then I think he's a great shout.
Klopp will add him in behind the front 4 against teams that will set up to defend and he could be the guy that unlocks those defences

Don't like the TAA + Lovren combo as I'm not sure that we'll see them play much together with VVD fit.

The idea is i get one certain starter and a possible double-up for the best defence in the league. Same price as Robertson WB, would you go with the latter?

I'd go with that - Richie away vs Man U and the way Tosun played as sub last week might impact on Richie's role

I'm not totally happy with Fraser on the bench this weekend - would you change the bench? If so would you put Trippier or Mendy on it?

              Foster
              Alonso, Robertson, Trippier, Mendy, Doherty
              Hazard (C), Mane
              Aguero, Vardy, Arnie

              Patricio, Fraser, Kenedy, Billing

              thanks 🙂

You'd rather play Trippier against City than Fraser against Fulham?

Any Kane owners keeping? Thinking he will up his game for Citeh and you have to fancy Spuds scoring at home.

He just hasn't done enough in my mind - so many other choices seem better atm - of course he's capable of changing that really quickly but I'd get rid

                No.
I'm a big Kane defender, still think he'll be up there for PL goals at the end of the season, but right now, with the upcoming fixtures, I see better value in someone like Arnie, or Vardy, and then an extra premium midfielder, and better defenders.
