How Marcos Alonso is faring compared to his best-ever FPL season

Marcos Alonso (£7.1m) has been on a rollercoaster ride through the Fantasy community this season.

“Overpriced” as an orthodox left-back one minute and then “essential” the next, the fact stands that the Spanish defender is currently the leading scorer in Fantasy Premier League across all positions, having accumulated more points than Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Raheem Sterling (£11.2m), Harry Kane (£12.4m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) – all of whom we have discussed previously in this mini-series.

Yet still there remain murmurings about his diminished goal threat and more conservative role in Maurizio Sarri’s back four.

With that in mind, we have taken this opportunity to scrutinise Alonso’s key underlying statistics and analyse how the figures from this campaign are matching up to his stand-out FPL season of 2016/17.

That season saw Alonso find the net on six occasions and register five assists, with 15 sets of clean sheet points and 11 bonus helping the Chelsea left-back to an overall score of 177; Alonso has almost reached half of that total in just 12 Gameweeks of this campaign.

Alonso already has as many assists to his name (seven) as any FPL defender managed in the whole of 2017/18 and the same number that he himself has managed in the last two seasons combined.

An ever-present in the Premier League this season, Alonso has registered clean sheets in half of the 12 top-flight fixtures in which he has started for the Blues.

Rest and rotation is a risk over the busy Christmas period, as it is for most players, but Sarri came to England with a reputation for fielding a settled side and that is certainly panning out this season: seven of Chelsea’s first-choice starting XI (including all of Chelsea’s back four) have started every Premier League match and only fitness concerns have likely prevented Eden Hazard (£11.3m) from doing the same.

Members can read on to find out how Alonso’s attacking key performance indicators contrast to his “breakthrough” FPL season of 2016/17.

    Did Mendy -> Dunk with a plan to get Sterling next gameweek, but i'm getting second thoughts.

    Getting Sterling involves the following transfers:

    Mendy -> Dunk (already done)
    Barkley -> Kenedy
    Arnautovic -> Jimenez
    Sigurdsson -> Sterling

    So essentially i'm downgrading two great fantasy assets in Sigurdsson and Arnautovic. I'm also going with a very cheap defender (he will however be rotated with Bennett and Wan Bissaka, with Alonso and Robertson playing every gameweek).

    What's your thoughts?

      would wait and see how Arnie and Siggy do this week.

        Yeah, Siggy and Arnie transfer won't be done until next gameweek anyways.
        I may do Barkley -> Kenedy this gameweek but i can play 4 at the back and just bench Barkley this gameweek anyways, saving 1 free and be better prepared for next gameweek.

    2. Eze Really?

      That is heavy duty.
      Arnie will outscore Jimi, Barkley will outscore Kennedy, Siggy injured

        Barkley doesn't do much imo, and is heavily rotated. Kenedy is pretty nailed on. How do you justify your opinion on this? I know Kenedy isn't a great option but i believe he will outscore Barkley.

          So why did you get him? Kennedy is a constant troll

            Stupid bandwagon after his haul, haven't looked good at all since then and will be rotated. Kenedy might improve over their next fixtures.

      I think this will potentially tear your team into shreds. Imagine Sterling gets red carded/injured.. Can you show us your full squad?

        Sterling injured/red carded and i'l improvise like i would if any other player gets injured / red carded...

        Team:

        Fabianski (Hamer)
        Alonso, Robertson, Bennet/Dunk/Wan Bissaka
        Sigurdsson, Hazard, Salah, Barkley, Camarasa
        Aguero,Arnautovic, Success

          I don't think it's sustainable having Aguero AND Salah AND Sterling. I believe it's 2/3.

            And Sigurdsson almost looks like a season holder.

    Hey guys, would Hazard to Kane be a viable option before GW15 if Hazard doesn't score at least 15 points over the next 2 GWs (Spurs away and Fulham home)?
