In last weeks column, I said ‘it could be a case of unlucky for some in Gameweek 13’…

In more than 10 seasons playing Fantasy Premier League, Gameweek 13 of 2018/19 was by far and away my worst ever.
Just look at that Gameweek rank, that in itself is an achievement, one for my FPL scrapbook.

When you go into a Gameweek feeling confident of a good points haul, it rarely ends well. A Saturday morning captaincy switch from Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) to Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) and the following tweet sum up my Gameweek from hell.

The temptation to rip up your team after a poor Gameweek is always there. A cool head is required in situations like this. Despite a horrendous Gameweek 13, I intend to bank a transfer this week and give the troops a chance to fight back. Major surgery is on the cards for Gameweek 15 though.

Man City midfielders

Fantasy managers are scrambling to stock up on City midfielders this week ahead of their game against Bournemouth at the Etihad.

Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) is the top-scoring player in the game, Leroy Sane (£9.3m) has scored four goals and registered three assists in his last three starts, while David Silva (£8.7m) has found the back of the net in each of his last three league appearances.

All three are great options, but the worry is always #PepRoulette, especially after he fielded a full-strength line-up in the Champions League midweek. He could spring a few surprises at the weekend to upset FPL managers.

A Hazardous move?

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (£11.1m) is the most transferred-out player this week with almost 200,000 sales (at the time of writing). Many are moving from the Belgian to a Man City asset. Shipping him before a home tie against Fulham could prove costly as it does present an opportunity for him and Chelsea to get back on track.

Time to invest in Spurs assets?

It’s well documented that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have a nice run of fixtures from Gameweek 15 onwards. FPL managers will be scouting their assets in the North London derby this weekend.

Harry Kane (£12.3m) will be the most popular acquisition next week and is likely to head the captaincy polls for Tottenham’s tie against the struggling Saints at Wembley.

Given Aguero’s poor away form and the increased risk of rotation as we enter the busy period, ‘Kun’ to Kane in Gameweek 15 makes sense. We know by now that the Englishman doesn’t do ‘rests’ which makes him an attractive option for the festive fixtures.

There are other options at Spurs to consider possibly even as alternatives to Kane if you can’t justify forking out £12.3m for him.

Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), Dele Alli (£8.9m) and Son Heung-min (£8.3m) were all excellent in the 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Son is likely to share game time with Lucas Moura (£7.1m) and Erik Lamela (£6.4m) which is enough to put me off him. Eriksen burned me at the start of the season scoring just 12 points in the opening four Gameweeks for which I’m not ready to forgive so Dele Alli is the one I’ve got my eye on.

Transfer plans

Bank this week, open heart surgery next week (two frees and a hit or two). I’m contemplating a major shake up of my premium assets. Triple City midfield (Sterling, Sane and D. Silva) is something I’ve looked at. Dele Alli is on my radar as well. Aguero is likely to become Kane while Hazard and Salah could both go.

Most of us have big decisions to make over the next few days. It’s make or break for some!

Good luck to all in Gameweek 14.

      If Giroud plays tonight, maybe.
If not, next week (if at all). Sterling might be quite a big rotation risk for Watford with Chelsea on the horizon if he plays 90 this weekend, so monitor that before taking a hit

I think that many players will be looking at major midfield changes after this GW. No point shipping Hazard out before the Fulham game so that leaves two mid-week transfers giving more flexibility.

I've looked at Hazard > Alli too and then strengthening another midfield place by Gray > Siggi, Gray being a temporary placeholder after Maddison's injury. But I think, after looking at the stats I'll opt for Eriksen instead.

Still not convinced about Harry and with my attack of 3 x £7 players it will be not until after the next WC if at all. For me, the points are behind the strikers this season and I'm happy to continue running three rotating attackers and go large on four defenders and four midfielders.

I don't really understand why FFS has these (essentially) blog posts about this player.

I don't follow the FPL Twitter scene and so am not really knowledgeable about @FPLGeneral's history but what does this sort of thing bring to FFS?

The articles here are mainly actual analysis. The podcast/youtube series is then used to let people follow the personal adventures of FFS admins' own teams.

This is one of the few articles I bother reading nowadays. The rest are mainly stats-spoonfeeding (stuff which managers can, and should do for themselves) with no argumentation or opinion. At least this guy has a good FPL record and expresses his own view rather than using the obligatory FFS "we" and "our".

I am much more interested in the thinking process of a capable manager than in an endless regurgitation of stats and numbers by someone who has no track record worth mentioning.

I could understand your point if there was more actual info about tactics or theories that this player was using. Basically the 'Meet the manager' series but in more drip feed week by week updates.

This specific posting above is just regurgitating what happened to the person's FPL players this week. How do you learn from that?

I can take satisfaction that my team's sh!t performance last week wasn't as bad as his. I am also interested to know that he is thinking about saving the FT this week and taking a hit or two next week, which happens to be exactly my plan as well.

It's not a matter of learning anything, it's a matter of someone having a perspective that is even mildly interesting.

hardly privileged is it? he's the one who's privileged by making a page dedicated to himself every week or so because everyone is so excited to see what some man on his computer is doing with his fantasy team

it shouldn't be a featured article when there's no advice, but instead it should be when someone gives applicable insight that can be used to the benefit of the reader who is giving up their time to read what advice they're giving to them

he can post all the stuff on twitter he likes and be a fantasy celebrity, but not when it's shoved in my face when I just want to settle down and read quirky match notes

I don’t bother taking much notice of such articles as this and don’t give a hoot if some one is rolling a transfer ... hardly a unique tactic lol

I know that Pool is solid at the back (not the case yesterday) but benching 7m, explosive player over defender of a team that lost 4 games in last 5 seems really brave 😀

Doherty should be in there over Wilson I think that's a no brainer personally

Really, benching in-form 7m forward is a no brainer?

Yes. He's not scored in his last couple and has City

Doherty is right up there for both shots and chances created, Wolves will likely bounce back this week and Cardiff have one of the worst attacking stats at home.

It's a no brainer. Decent clean sheet and attacking returns v a possible consolation goal

He's going to rise today I'm afraid. You'll have to make alternative arrangements.

Was planning Aguero > Kane for a while but used the funds to switch Mane > Sterling. Which of the below to make the funds next week:

    Murray > Rondon
    Richarlison > Schurrle
    Doherty > Yoshida
    Hart > Hamer + Arnautovic > Mitro
    Robbo > Trent
