Captains

Captain Sensible – All eyes on in-form Kane for Gameweek 15

It’s all change for Fantasy Premier League managers as Gameweek 15 looms large.

This is when the fixtures begin to swing in the direction of Tottenham and Arsenal and that has already had an effect on the captain debate.

We’ve taken a look at both the popular options and those most likely to do well in the midweek action in this latest article.

Captain Poll

Harry Kane (£12.4m) looks poised to go into Gameweek 15 as the runaway Fantasy Football Scout captain poll winner. At the time of writing the Tottenham man had a 42% share of the vote ahead of Southampton’s visit to Wembley on Wednesday night. The last time he was the most popular candidate was when they hosted Cardiff in Gameweek 8 – his owners will be hoping for a better showing than his blank against the Bluebirds.

A long way off in second place is Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who has a 15% share of the vote. Liverpool travel to Burnley this weekend and are expected to waltz to victory considering the form their hosts are in. The Clarets have allowed more shots than any other side this season which should afford Salah plenty of chances to finally get his second double-figure haul of the campaign.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) looks set to finish the poll in third place, as the most popular of the Manchester City options. He is the top-scoring player in all of FPL right now so there’s so surprise that he’s ahead of his colleagues in this vote. Some might have expected him to have garnered more than 9% support, but it appears the voters are aware of his rotation risk. An away match against Watford looks like one in which Sterling can certainly deliver but the fact that he played the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth does reduce his risk of starting this one – and that is reflected in his percentage share here.

Interestingly, Marko Arnautovic (£7.1m) is up next as he faces Cardiff City on Tuesday night. His 5.67% share of the vote is higher than Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) who trails behind the main group with 4.5%. There is considerable doubt over whether he will even start against Watford with his recent muscular injury, but he has also been so poor away from home too.

Despite emerging as a potential alternative to Kane in the minds of some Fantasy managers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) is lagging well behind in the captain poll. Just 3.49% of voters are considering handing him the armband this weekend even though he faces a leaky Manchester United defence at Old Trafford. Callum Wilson (£6.8m), who faces Huddersfield, is ahead of him on 3.81%.

Eden Hazard (£11.0m) and Sadio Mané (£9.9m) are even further behind with just 1.95% and 1.74% backing respectively.

If Robbo is out, would you have Doherty (CHE) or AWB (bha) as first sub?

Which move is better to enable Aguero to Kane this week? I will make the other move next week to enable Wilson/Arnie to Auba.

    A. Martial to Fraser
    B. Salah to DSilva

    Thanks

Posted this as a comment on earlier page - just some thoughts on Lacazette from the perspective of an owner, since I've seen a few people thinking of getting him instead of Auba and making the saving.

    ---

I'd say if you're going for Laca as a cheaper way to jump on Arsenal, be prepared to be quite frustrated while watching him - and also prepare for blanks.

Owned him since GW6 - and he's a tough watch at times, drifting in and out of games / looking a bit languid. Even vs Spurs he looked as if he'd been told to shift wide right, with Auba/Ramsey staying central. Then a fortunate goal, really.

I think Emery has finally twigged that he needs to base this side around getting best out of Auba - so he's going to be more nailed - more central as well - and that might mean Laca has to graft a bit / suffer as a result.

I'm keeping Lac for now - but he needs to start *and* deliver vs Hudd for me to keep him beyond that, because he's the easy sacrifice to get 3X City ahead of EVE/PAL.

Potentially, but did he not make a balls of Dier’s goal for example? Arsenal don’t strike me a striker particularly defensively sound... and Cech

Arsenal fan here, no way that Leno is being dropped, by far the better goalkeeper for Arsenal's style, so much better than cech on the ball and faster, he's been awesome in most games

My issue with Leno who is as you say well priced, and that’s Arsenal don’t seem to be able to keep clean sheets but also they don’t let their opponents have many shots so his save points potential is far lower than a Fab for example.. however if they start to keep cleanies he is a steal...

Could squeeze Salah and Kane into my WC as follows:

    Fab 4.0
    Alderweireld Digne Bellerin (Doc, AWB)
    Salah Dilva Sigurdsson Fraser (Billing)
    Kane Laca Arnie

Good balance or does the rest of the team suffer too much as a result? I’ve got the funds for Salah + Siggy to Sané + Hazard in two weeks to optimise fixtures if I want to.
