Scout Picks

For the third time in a week, we have produced a line-up which we believe to be the best for Fantasy Premier League.

It’s been a manic turnaround this week and it comes to an end with our selection for Gameweek 16.

With a bit more time to prepare than we had for Gameweek 15, we consulted our Scout Squad once again, this time Joe, Az, Peter and Neale on the panel.

We have whittled down their choices to a 3-4-3 line-up valued at £82.5 (at time of writing).

Goalkeeper

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.6m) gets the nod in goal this week as West Ham prepare for a home match against Crystal Palace. He was chosen as the top option in this position by Joe, Az and Neale. While the Hammers have just one clean sheet at the London Stadium this season, they came incredibly close against Cardiff City, while the Eagles have largely struggled in front of goal. Their victory over Burnley owing to the Clarets accommodating nature at the back.

Defenders

As we get closer to Christmas we seem to be spending less and less money on defence in the Scout Picks each week. For Gameweek 16, Matt Doherty (£5.0m) is our most expensive player in this position as Wolves face a trip to Newcastle United. The Magpies have only scored in two of their last five matches at home so there’s a chance Doherty could get a clean sheet, but his attacking play this season means he always stands a chance of a goal or an assist.

Sead Kolasinac (£4.9m) has the honour of being the first Arsenal defender to make the Scout Picks this season. He was mentioned by Joe, Az and Neale ahead of the Gunners’ hosting of Huddersfield Town. While Unai Emery’s men have not been defensively sound this season, no team has scored fewer goals than Huddersfield. Furthermore, the Bosnian left-back has created 10 chances of the last four Gameweeks, claiming two assists in that time.

Despite Everton struggling to get the predicted result against Newcastle, Lucas Digne (£4.8m) gets another shot at the Scout Picks for Gameweek 16. It’s Watford who come to Goodison Park on Monday night, with just two goals in their last four matches, and the Hornets have found the net in only two of their last five away matches. Meanwhile, Digne continues to be involved in set pieces for Everton.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) goes into the Scout Picks once again, riding on the backing of all four Scout Squad pundits. Joe, Az and Neale put him down as the best option in this position for Gameweek 16 while Peter had him at second. As we recently noticed in this week’s latest Captain Sensible article, Salah has produced a nice balance between goal threat and creativity in the last four Gameweeks, comparing favourably with other options in spite of missing most of Gameweek 15. That rest against Burnley stands him in good stead to start at the Vitality Stadium, where he will face a Bournemouth defence that has allowed more shots in the penalty box than any other side from Gameweek 12 onwards.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) comes back into the side after missing out on a place in both the Manchester City starting XI and our own in Gameweek 15. We figured that the England international would probably be benched for the trip to Watford, but there is no way he won’t play against Chelsea. It is a huge match for Manchester City, which allows them to further demonstrate their ability to see off competition from other members of the big six. Sterling has four goals and five assists in his last five starts and looks the most likely to excel for Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Robert Snodgrass (£5.3m) comes in as a budget alternative to Felipe Anderson, who was chosen by all four of our pundits. We made the switch in order to facilitate greater spending on Salah and Sterling, as well as our forward line. The Scottish midfielder has actually created more chances than Anderson in the last four Gameweeks.

Callum Paterson (£5.3m) and Cardiff have a home match against Southampton in Gameweek 16 and it looks well-timed for the Bluebirds to exploit the Saints’ current situation. It will be the first game in charge for new manager Ralph Hasenhüttl and, with such a tight turnaround, his appointment is unlikely to take effect. Meanwhile, only Newcastle and Manchester City have had more efforts on goal in their last four home matches than Cardiff.

Forwards

Harry Kane (£12.5m) was tipped by all four of our pundits this week following his 12-point haul against Southampton on Wednesday. It’s a Leicester side he’s scored seven goals in his three matches against up next and he remains top of the league for shots on target in the last four Gameweeks.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m) is the chosen Arsenal representative this week. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang actually got more support in the Scout Squad article but for financial reasons, we’ve gone with his French colleague. We actually believe Lacazette is likely to be involved, having featured from the bench twice across Gameweeks 14 and 15, while Aubameyang has played 180 minutes. In those two matches, he managed a goal and an assist.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.0m) completes the Scout Picks XI this week as the most popular of the budget forwards among our panel of pundits. All of them tipped the Mexican apart from Az as Wolves prepare to face Newcastle. The Magpies have conceded an average of 1.63 goals per home game this season while only Kane and Salomón Rondón have had more shots than Jiménez since Gameweek 12.

Substitutes

Sean Morrison (£4.7m) gets a place on the bench after picking up the backing of Joe and Peter. While Cardiff haven’t been too hot defensively this year, the home match against Southampton offers more potential for a clean sheet than usual. But crucially, no defender has had more touches in opposing penalty boxes than Morrison in the last four Gameweeks, indicating his goal threat.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.9m) has another favourable match-up this week as Burnley host a Brighton side susceptible to headed efforts this season, especially away from home. As the set piece taker, Gudmundsson could benefit.

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez (£6.3m) is likely to be Manuel Pellegrini’s full-time replacement for the injured Marko Arnautovic so he should be considered a Fantasy stand-in too. In the four matches previous to Gameweek 15, the Mexican had actually registered more shots than his Austrian colleague from fewer minutes.

Community Champion

The Community Champion returns after the manic turnaround of the midweek games. Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek 16 is Dr Mantis Toboggan (DC2). He has opted for a 3-5-2 formation of Fabianski; Digne, Doherty, Kolasinac; Salah, Son, Richarlison, Martial, Paterson; Aubameyang, Lacazette.

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

The Scouts have won eight and lost six so far, with Prasun Singhal defeated 57-43 in Gameweek 14.

fclackless‘s winning margin of 33 points (77-44) in Gameweek 10 is the current target to beat.

Madness to go with Holebas instead of Digne here? Both on set pieces and great going forwards but Holebas rotates better with my other 4 defenders (will be playing 4-4-2 most weeks), his short term fixtures are better and I’d be looking at one of the ARS defenders -> Digne when EVE’s fixtures turn great in a few weeks.

    Fabianski, Button
    Bellerin, Kolasinac, TAA, Doherty, xxx

I'm on WC and this is my current defense:
AWB, Doherty, Kolasinac, TAA, Bennett, (Fabianski, Steele)

Have 1.2 ITB so looking to upgrade Bennett as I don't want double Wolves, but I don't see any obvious options below 6m.
    Who would you suggest?

What’s the thinking behind Steele over Button?

      1. 420king
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

Just the fact that Button hasn't made the bench yet since returning from injury. You think Button is 2nd choice?

        1. Axle11
          • 13 Years
          7 years, 3 months ago

Agree with this, I'm currently on WC and have Steele over Button. Steele has been in bench in last 5-6 weeks for Brighton.

And with Mat Ryan likely out in January (AFC Cup 2019), this 50/50 choice surely will be crucial. The replacement should play.

To be fair Button was injured 3 of those gameweeks, but the fact that he hasn't even made the bench upon returning is worrying. Annoying decision to make either way.

Sterling (C) for me. Kane and Salah owner. I may be digging my own grave, but will report back tomorrow. City have 45 goals in 15 games, he’s guaranteed to play and is going against Alonso, who Doherty took it to last week with a vengeance. Pray for me!

    Hi all!

Quick one for you. This is my WC team

    Fab / Hamer
    Alonso / TAA / AWB / Digne / Doherty
    Sterling / Son / Richarlison / Anderson / 5.5M
    Kane / Wilson / Laca

I have a dilemma for my 5th mid spot. At the moment, I have Hudson-Odoi, who leaves me with 1.3 ITB and a direct path to Son -> Sane and an easier path to Laca -> Auba if necessary. But in this period, it may make more sense to get a playing 5th mid given rotation. Paterson has some nice fixtures and playing OOP. But then I'd have to do at least 2 transfers for Sane or Auba and he'd be first bench anyway. Really stuck here. Advice pls!

Just go with someone around 4.5m who plays. Shame you are 0.1 short of doing Son to Sane if you get Camarasa.

I think you're prob better off with a cheaper 5th mid so you can have some room to move for Sané etc...
Rotation is a factor over Xmas but just get a playing cheapie. You can't rely on your cheap 5th mid to get more that 2 points most games anyway so just go uber cheap.

I think that defense can survive without Alonso, so you can drop him, get a decent 5th mid and still manage to have a cash for your required moves

Thanks Holmes. Alonso is a season keeper for me, barring injuries. I look at him as a midfield with added clean sheets. Plus the fixtures after MCI are tasty

Although I reluctantly parted ways with Alonso myself I'd probably upgrade other parts of the team before going with 8 strong attacking options, too much of a benching dilemma.

Gunnarsson if you can stretch, he’ll play every game, 0.2 cheaper than Camarasa and can nick G/A

How likely are you to use your 5th mid, ideally they'll be your 14th player.
That's why I think I'm going to go for Gibbs-White, but I think my bias is drawing me to the move.
He won't be a starter but he will get his chances and he can be a gamechanger from the bench. He'll most likely come on in every game and he'll play in an advanced position, not bad for 4.3

The alternative is Masuaku at 4.3 but Gibbs-White may be more explosive, assuming he gets regular cameos

Masuaku's minutes depend on Cresswell, so he's unlikely to make cameos if he doesn't start.
MGW will probably get 1 point most games but his ceiling will be higher
My advice would be to keep him last on your bench (unless Neves gets banned again) and use him as a last resort.
If you want security of starts though you'd be better off with Gunnarsson, MGW definitely more exciting though.

Hojbjerg for 4.4 would leave you enough for Son -> Sane wouldn't it?

Really struggling to finalise who to bench this week. My current selection is:

    Fabianski (Henessey)

    Alonso, Robbo, Digne

Martial, Salah (C), Sane, Richarlison, F Anderson

    Kane (VC), Rondon

Current Bench order: Jimenez, AWB, Bennett.

    GTG?

Own Kane, Salah, and Lacazette. Who is the better (C) choice? Currently have in on Kane.

      I would go:

      Lacazette
      Salah
      Kane

      In that order.

      Salah (75min)

    Patrício
    Robertson, Alonso, Digne, Doherty
    Sigurdsson, Salah, Felipe Anderson, Paterson
    Aubameyang, Vardy*

    Bench
    Foster, Kamara, Fraser, Wan-Bissaka

Like Vardy to Rondon for -4 is on my mind because I think it will be less bad that way

This is my wildcard team, but I have 1.3m in the bank!
What do I do with it?!

    Fabianski
    Robertson • TAA • Kolasinac • Doherty
    Sterling • Sane • Richarlison
    Kane • Aubameyang (c) • Jimenez

    Steele • Fraser • AWB • Gibbs-White

    I could upgrade:
    Fabianski > Ederson
    Kolasinac > Laporte
    Gibbs-White > Snodgrass
    or just save the money?!

This is the most similar wc to me i've seen on here! like it. I'd probably save the money out of those options and wait for something to jump out in the new few wks 🙂

        What's your team like?
I'm honestly just hoping to get some price rises out of Fabianski and Kolasinac before I move them on. I want Ederson and Digne but in about 3 GW time.

Anyone else think something fishy with Auba price rise? Just 2gw ago he was 10.9. Now he's 11.4. Ridiculous.

The short week made it easy as it was an automatic rise.
Decent chance for another rise in 21 hours.

Either the quick turnaround of gameweeks have attracted the casuals back, or they lowered the delta because of the shorter time between gameweeks?

Very similar to my WC team (Schindler, Son and Torreira changed to Laporte, Fraser and Camarasa). So I love 12/15 of it! 😉

I don't see the value in spending 5m on a defensive midfielder bench fodder player.

He looks like he can nick a goal or 2 as well and will need to play some games over the busy holiday period.
If I downgrade him I could upgrade Schindler but he has good fixtures and there’s not a lot around in the sub 5.0 defenders.

        What moves would you make?

Having second thoughts about going with Mitro on my WC. His next four after United are great and it would be a waste using a FT to get him in, but at the same time he's likely to blank next and miss one of those good games through suspension. Then again he's an easy switch to Wilson whose fixtures turn slightly better after those 5 GWs.

What do you think, good pick or not?

I think he'll do well under Ranieri, but I wouldn't be bringing him in on a WC.

If you think he'll do well it would be a great time to bring him in, unless you think the next game and/or yellow cards are too big of an issue.

Worth transferring Duffy out this week when I can just play Doherty or AWB off the bench? Would Leave me 2 FTs for next week

Or should I bite the bullet and transfer him out for any defender for 6.6 or under? Is Bellerin the way to go?
