Dear FFS,

I have been a loyal and dedicated player of the game of FPL for many years. My ambitions have not amounted to much, but they have always been decent. My personal best finish is 21k, and I finished in 42k last season.

This season, I did feel it would be different. I had avoided my usual bad start to this season, and by GW12 had managed a solid place just outside the top 50k, ready for what promised to be a charge into the upper levels of the league.

That was then.

GW13 was a nightmare; just 39 points (with a -4). Had it not been for Salah, it would have been non-existent. Still, with GW14, I felt confident. With Aguero as captain, and 8 players in the side that made the scout picks that week, what could go wrong?

In a word, everything.

First, it was greeted by the news that Sergio had been what I assumed had been dropped, but turned out to be a muscle injury. It was more greatly highlighted by the fact that it became my only gw so far to have had NO goals produced by any members of the team. This made it a 2nd successive week outside the top 3m.

The last thing I wanted was a midweek gw; so naturally, that's what happened. After the glorious appearance of Arnautovic notching a whopping 0 points against the might Cardiff, I looked on at the non-appearance of Sterling, a player I had brought in on the basis that he was the way to go, as opposed to the out of form Hazard...sigh. It was further enlightened by an -8 hit, an injury to Martial (who I had brought in just weeks before) and a net score, after hits, of 32. This resulted in the small matter of a drop from 57k to 231k in 3 gameweeks.

GW16 looked different; with Salah getting an outstanding captain's score. It was just a pity that I captained Aubameyang. Instead, I watched as Yedlin's sending off ensured that I ended Newcastle-Wolves with fewer points than when the match had started.

At least, with a decent GW17, it looked as though things were becoming promising leading up to Xmas. With GW18 coming up, and a vast array of options for point scoring arriving, would things finally change? After all, both Salah and Auba had scored well, even if they had been captained by others. At least Sterling would maintain his impressive home form in a banker of a win.

Oh. Dear.

I would love to describe how the afternoon matches went, although regrettably I would be unable to do this fully until at least 9pm. Alonso – he with Chelsea t home to struggling Leicester – blanks. Anderson – against Watford – blanks. Yedlin – against the mighty Fulham – doesn't even play (oh yeah, and they get a cleanie. Dunk comes off the bench to get sent off. Mitrovic blanks (so much for the Ranieri effect.) Torreira – who I brought in this week – doesn't even start. Fabianski blanks.

To summarise, what I hoped would be an outstanding week is simply a vision of the very depths of hell. There is barely a single positive that can be taken from this. I have an engrained hatred of FPL, of football, and of the very concept of happiness.

May all of those who have experienced blind luck this week suffer this Xmas, and let their afternoons be ruined just as today has ruined mine. I will think of you as I look at a world where results are seemingly rigged, so that it may be left in constant ill-fortune, bad luck, and trapped in a perpetual Murphy's law designed to bring unhappiness and misery.

I have many words to describe this GW, which I cannot articulate, so I'll settle for this one:
