After the hectic Christmas period, there is no little consensus over which premium Fantasy Premier League options are the best to own.

The problem has been particularly prevalent in midfield and attack with the recent re-emergence of Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) forcing managers to chop and change their more expensive assets to get him back in.

We have decided to take the opportunity of the upcoming break from league action to compare some of the popular players at the dearer end of their classification.

These are Salah, Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), Eden Hazard (£11.1m), Leroy Sané (£9.5m) and Paul Pogba (£8.4m) in midfield with Harry Kane (£12.6m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.4m), Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.1m) up front.

Using the Fantasy Football Scout members’ area we have weighed these options against each other for various statistics over the last six Gameweeks.

The analysis takes into account their minutes per shots in the box, minutes per efforts on target, creativity and expected data.

We have chosen the period of the last six Gameweeks to factor in the hectic festive period but also to take into account some of the matches before that too.

    Had a bit of a rethink on w/c how does this look?

    Gunn / Guaita
    Digne / TAA / Doherty / AWB / Bednarek
    Salah / Hazard / Pogba / Camarasa
    Aubameyang / Aguero / Kamara

    And one of Eriksen / Alli / Moura with 0.1 - 2.5m itb depending on who, will go back to Son after Asian Cup. If Moura could upgrade Kamara to Arnautovic for example, some help and advice needed.

      Rashford: started last 8 under 2 different managers and Lukaku were not available for only 2 of them. OGS rates him apparently. Even Lukaku is included in the 11, Rash will be shifted to right and he can do the damage there as well. Fixture is better for Rash as well

    Couple of quick questions in terms of best option for next few weeks:

    A: Redmond or Ings
    - Ings would be on pens, nailed on when fit, good stats
    - redmond is not someone i trust but his numbers look pretty good (good pen touches but doesnt seem like he shoots much). has he changed under the new manager?

    B: Redmond or Paterson
    - both similar price, good fixtures
    - worth playing one of them in a 352? or best to go uber cheap (hojberg) and use the extra funds on def to play 442

    C: Alonso or TAA
    - obviously there is a big diff in price but is the savign worth it? I could try to keep alonso and get taa too but then its a comparison between someone like alonso vs. arnie
    - I was initially thinking of getting rid of alonso from gw 23 (ars, bou, HUD, mci, BHA, TOT) but he looked really attacking in the last gw (def passed the eye test). apart from the city game, i think alonso can haul in most games

    I’ve been an expert in transferring out the premiums before they score:

    GW15 Salah out, subsequent scores 4, 21, 2, 12,13 (the back in for 2).
    GW16 Hazard out, subsequent scores 9 and 14 (then back in for 15, 3 and 3).
    GW18 Aub out, subsequent scores 13, 8, 2, 9.
    GW21 Sterling and Sane out for Salah and Siggy (15 vs 4).

    Lessons learnt? None. Other then they will come good at some point.

    When can transferred players start to play in their new clubs? Do we need to start saving ft:s and when? (Sorry, I don't remember the rules).

      As soon as it’s updated. Wouldn’t worry about saving frees specifically for this situation, treat it as if that was always their club and they’ve just become available.

      Salah will haul. So will Haz. Makes sense to have both on your team together. And then either sides; Sane or Martial points not guaranteed but can be the bonus. So i say A!

    Just worked out (factoring in all autosubs) that if I hadn't made a transfer all season and left captaincy on Salah I would be ranked 62k instead of my actual rank of 83k.

    Is this game just a lot simpler than we all make it?

      A lot of the time, yes. The only times where transfers are likely to work out is if we take out injured players (obviously) or players who are clearly bad picks (either bad form or some of this year's inexplicable bandwagons like Torreira, Knockaert and Barkley).

      But a lot of the time if you try to be too clever and sell a perfectly good player it's a 50/50 chance, if that.

      I'm a prime example of that - I did Rashford to Lacazette for a hit last week.

    Just reading the latest rumours regarding replacing Clyne. The general thinking is that Ki-Jana Hoever will be promoted from the youth setup to provide cover for Trent. Make of this what you will.

      Trent will play more than before and is cheaper than Robbo. I expect quite similar ppm from both of them. Robbo > TAA done to get cash for Salah.
