Manchester City options have dominate the Double Gameweek 25 captaincy as they prepare for two Premier League fixtures in a matter of days.

Fantasy managers are therefore faced with two dilemmas concerning the first Double of the season.

The first is assessing which of Pep Guardiola’s men is the best option, especially considering his rather unpredictable rotation policy.

The second is whether or not to trust that player with the armband when there are also some decent options with only one match this Gameweek.

We aim to tackle both of these issues in this week’s Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

After scoring Manchester City’s only goal in their defeat at Newcastle, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is the most popular captain candidate for Gameweek 25. He has a 29% share of the vote at the time of writing.

For the first time in several weeks, we actually have a closely contested battle for the armband according to the poll, with Leroy Sané (£9.7m) hot on Aguero’s tails with 24% of the vote. Those who have given the German their backing are likely to be influenced by his greater chance of starting both matches in Gameweek 25.

Voters are probably less sure of a start for Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), as he has just 9.5% of the vote currently. The England international is doing battle with Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) for third place, as 9.2% of the voters believe that Liverpool’s match away at West Ham is captain material on its own, even with the Doubles in play.

Having found the net on his immediate return from the Asian Cup, Son Heung-min (£8.6m) leads the chasing pack. 6% of voters are backing this differential option ahead of a home meeting with Newcastle on Saturday lunch-time. Since Gameweek 13, Son has averaged nine points per appearance for Spurs, an incredible run of form.

The two fixtures for Everton seems to have given Richarlison (£6.8m) a bit of a boost in the poll, with 4.9% of voters backing him as the best captain option with matches against Wolves and Manchester City. Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) is also in the mix with a 1.6% share, Eden Hazard (£10.9m) sat between the two Toffees on 3.9%.

Other Manchester City options considered by a select few include Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) backed by 1.09% and Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m) on 0.57%.

Good article, I enjoyed reading that.

A couple of things though, re Sane... 'the German is probably the most likely to start both matches of Gameweek 25, boosting his appeal further.' I'm not buying this at all. Mendy back in training dents his appeal a little.

'If we accept that poll winner Aguero is likely to be benched for one of the Double Gameweek 25 matches'... again this is just speculation, we don't know this.

Yeah, also Mahrez seems really out of favour, and if he's the only rival to Sterling then I think his chances of starting both are higher than have been suggested.

Sterlings versatility is also a plus, can see him moving to the left if Mendy is fit enough to start one of the games.

Agreed on both points. Another thing to note about Sane is that he's accrued 138 less minutes than Sterling over the last 6 gameweeks. It'd be one thing if he was coming off early in games they were cruising, but in games like the Newcastle one I struggle to see how it's a good sign.

I personally think Aguero is likely to miss one of the next games, but at the very least his chances of starting both are comparible to that of Sane's imo.

I agree, its all speculation isn't it, we just don't know, but Mendy's fitness is key to it all IMO.

Oddly enough I was going to captain Sterling even if Mendy was confirmed out, but it definitely complicates matters for those who were favouring Sane. Another problem is that given the bad run of form and players returning from injury, this is probably the worst time to try and speculate. It's one thing to speculate if there's a settled lineup and they're winning games with ease, but there are so many variables in play here that I don't see how anyone could predict with any confidence.

I'd be surprised if it's Mendy behind Sane, but you never know, and I think you're right about Walker - his performances have dipped in recent weeks, but Danilo didn't exactly cover himself in glory against Newcastle either, so who knows.

Danilo was bad one game, and Walker is awful hole season.
In the start of the season Mendy played and Sane was on the bench, then Mendy had injury I believe, then he came back and he and Sane played couple of games together.
Nobody knows but IMO I think for these two games Mendy is not a threat to Sane, only Chelsea game and rest

And after this week I'd want to be shifting Alonso, Ricaharlsion & Hazard.

That's where I'd be trying to use the transfers if that helps at all.

So the TAA injury that was a month, that was then actually a week, was indeed (more than likely) a month.
The Gomez injury that was 3-4 weeks is looking more like 8.

Right, which one do you fancy to be the better of these options, both for free:

    Alonso & Anderson > Laporte & Richarlison

Gives me (potentially) two extra DGW players to go along with Sterling (c) but gives me another blank to sort out.

    Alonso & Anderson > Kolasinac & Son

Makes my team better overall I think and no blanks to worry about until later on. Would bench Kola this week though.

Trippier or Rose due to attacking threat, plus sanchez and vertonghen pick up too many yellows.

Out of Trippier and Rose, Trippier is more likely to play all 3 games (Aurier was shocking against Watford and likely to be moved on in the summer).. Rose has looked comfortably better than Davies as well though and Llorente gets on the end of crosses from the left far more often - I don't have a stat to prove this but observationally I'm positive this is true!

I think the biggest problem with picking a captain from City this week isn’t who has played most previously (article), that actually may work against them, but rather who hasn’t played much lately.

Nothing to base it on other than the way Pep operates but I just can’t for the life of me see him leaving Jesus, Mahrez and co in the cold for both games...it’s just not how he operates.

Polka Wakey...I couldn't agree more...I'm torn between Sane, Aguero and Rich....I have all 3 and Son & Salah on top of that...If this was a straight gw I would cap Son...now it feels like not capping a 2xgw player is suicide...still don't know who I ultimately will pick...
