Wolves progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup after defeating Shrewsbury Town in a fourth-round replay on Tuesday night.

The result did not drastically change the landscape of upcoming Blanks, as the Premier League side still have to face Bristol City before their Gameweek 31 fate is sealed.

If they beat the Championship outfit then their meeting with Arsenal on the weekend of March 16 will be postponed. Defeat at the hands of Bristol City would see that fixture go ahead, with the Gunners already out of the FA Cup.

How Wolves got on, in what proved to be a tough game for them, is the focus of this latest Scout Notes article.

Wolves 3-2 Shrewsbury

Goals: Matt Doherty x2 (£5.3m), Ivan Cavaleiro (£5.2m)

Assists: Jonny x2 (£4.3m), Doherty

Wolves’ FA Cup replay was all about Matt Doherty (£5.3m) as he had a hand in every single one of their goals against Shrewsbury Town. It was another match that demonstrated his huge attacking potential, as he scored twice and provided the assist for Ivan Cavaleiro‘s (£5.2m) winning goal.

His opener was a back-post header after Shrewsbury goalkeeper Steve Arnold could not collect a cross from Jonny (£4.3m). His second was a hugely important strike as it ensured Wolves did not go into the half-time break 2-1 down at home to League One opposition.

While some Fantasy managers might be disappointed that Doherty saved what was, effectively, a double-figure haul for the FA Cup, performances like this just continue to highlight what an asset he is for our teams this season. With the wind in his sails, plus returns in both of his last two Premier League matches, he is in the perfect form to deliver again at home to Newcastle on Monday night.

Left-back Jonny was also an important player for Wolves in their FA Cup tie as he provided the assist for both of Doherty’s goals. It was another match in which Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were most threatening down the flanks, thanks to the ability of their attacking full-backs. If it were not for them, things might have been more embarrassing for them on Tuesday night.

Nuno rotated his front line to bring in Helder Costa (£4.7m) and Cavaleiro flanking Adama Traoré (£5.1m), the three of them struggling to show any rhythm. As a side note, that seems to be a recurring theme for those three players this season, which helps us feels secure in ongoing starts for Raúl Jiménez (£6.7m) and Diogo Jota (£6.0m) who were benched and rested respectively.

“We were ahead with the first moment, the first shot on goal we scored, but after it, we kept the ball with no real threat and when they scored we started playing, but it was always rushed and not the best way to play football. We got the job done, not in the best way, the way we want to do. The boys, after they got scared, started playing – they know there’s no easy games in football.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

Perhaps of some concern when it comes to the return of FPL at the weekend, is Wolves’ defence. With Newcastle coming to Molineux on Monday night, there will be plenty of managers starting Rui Patrício (£4.5m), Ryan Bennett (£4.1m) or Willy Boly (£4.6m) in the hope of capitalising on a clean sheet. The fact that Wolves conceded twice to a side operating two divisions below them, plus one clean sheet in eight Premier League matches, might make owners of those assets think twice.

That may be especially because the first choice back-five were all in place for the FA Cup fourth-round replay. With Jonny and Doherty on the flanks, it was the usual centre-back trio of Conor Coady (£4.5m), Bennett and Boly. The only difference in that department was that goalkeeper Patrício was given the night off, with John Ruddy (£4.3m) deputising. The stand-in shot-stopper was to blame for Shrewsbury’s second goal, the ball slipping through his hands. Meanwhile, Wolves were also quite vulnerable from set pieces on the night too.

“After we scored so early, I thought that we could have play better, then we allowed them to get back in the game. It made our task very harder.” – Nuno

There was a change in the middle of the park as Romain Saïss (£4.2m) and Morgan Gibbs-White (£4.3m) came in for Rúben Neves (£4.9m) and Joao Moutinho (£5.2m). The latter has become something of a potential differential option in recent weeks so it was pleasing for Fantasy managers eyeing him up to see nothing more than a 20-minute cameo for him.

Meanwhile, Neves’ presence on the bench confirms he is available for selection following a knock sustained against Everton on Saturday. Jota and Rúben Vinagre (£4.3m) were not risked with their issues though.

Wolves XI (3-4-3): Ruddy; Boly, Coady, Bennett; Jonny, Saïss, Gibbs-White, Doherty; Costa (Moutinho 69′), Traoré (Jiménez 77′), Cavaleiro (Ennis 88′).

I'm in that boat. Expecting a cameo at best tonight, but relatively happy with 20 captain points from my only City option in a DGW. I gave a little bit of thought to swapping Kun for Auba, but I want him back straight away so it seemed a bit daft to blow 2ft.

Everyone’s had good weeks and bad weeks and should be able to enjoy the good.

Unfortunately I know from my previous wanting Salah to blank that the majority (sane owners) will make it a misery for the minority.

Its why many follow the heard so they can’t get slagged off.

If it was any other week and we were celebrating a salah hattrick you’d literally get a hand shandy from the majority

I think that is a good point. This place is like a echo chamber sometimes and it’s easy to just follow the pack. When it fails there’s a lot of sour grapes on here when they hear of other people who dared to do differently and they can’t stand it.

You should be able to enjoy the good times as well as endure the bad-that’s the whole idea of playing a competitive game!

Don’t agree with the idea that if you’ve had a good gw and want to talk about it should be called bragging or whatever

It’s funny how this game gets lots of people so wound up!

Trying to reduce the number of players that have gw 27 blanks, any of these sound decent moves?

    A) Sterling, Sane, Kama > Son, Jota/Barnes(6.5), Auba (-4)
    B) Rich, Alonso > Son, Pereira (free)
    C) Rich, Sane, Alonso > Son, Mane, Pereira (-4)

Needs at least 10+ for me to be happy or prefer a no-show with Kun my VC.

Last year I used TC on Kane who got 3 total and pretty sure the year before Kun failed me with a 1 or a 2 pointer from 2 games. So pretty much I hate the TC chip.

I own Sane, and I'm concerned he won't start.
B.Silva played well against Arsenal, would be harsh to drop him.
There are issues with Sane, regarding his attitude, if he hasn't responded well to be being dropped, during training, then it might not be good news.

Sane has been constantly starting more than anyone.

It’s not being dropped it’s rotation. Something which all players at big clubs are now familiar with and have to accept. Would not be harsh, Bilbao played the bigger game and being rested means he is likely to play the next big game v Chelsea

    Ederson Fabs
    Robbo Shaw Digne AWB Bennett
    Salah Sterling Pogba Rich Puncheon
    Aguero Rashford Success

    1ft, 0.5 itb

It's the first time this season I'm really struggling to decide what to do. I need Son in my life, but how to do it is the problem. Rich and Ederson to Son and Boruc is fairly obvious, with Aguero to Auba next week.

Could also do Rich and Aguero to Son and Laca.

Could also get Son and Mane for Rich and Sterling this week. Too many options... and I'm away after today so I don't have long to decide.

Transfers made. Son + Auba + Gunnarsson in for Hazard + Ings + Richarlison (-4)

Now I'm stuck though. Next week is really tricky. I want to have City for GW 28 but Sane is deadweight for one week.

Do I just hold Sane and play Gunnarsson or transfer Sane out for FAnderson. We'll see tonight's game I guess then decide.

I'm going to be holding onto Sterling over the blank, and probably Digne.

Like you say, wait and see what Sane looks like tonight, it'll probably make the decision easier.

Not worth a hit to remove him.
          GW27 team will be,

          Lloris
          Shaw - Robertson - Wan-Bissaka - Schindler
Salah - Son - JWP - (probably Anderson in for Richarlison)
          Jimenez - Rashford
          Bench - Wilson - Digne - Sterling
*Wilson will play ahead of Schlinder if fit.

My Actual team for next GW:

    Etheridge
    virgil - dohery - robertson
    pogba - son - salah - richarlison
    auba - rashford - jimenez

    fabianski - wanbissaka - pereira - billing.

    Who as captain?

at the moment my team sucks. I have 3 GWs that I score very low and I lost the last 3 head-to-head. the plan would be to keep this rose for GW26 and GW27 and play the WC at GW28 (to take city players)

Any advice or feedback with explanation?

Can see a lot people advising to hold Sane because of the fixtures and not sell for Son.

    Is Sane even nailed now?
    Mendy is back.
B.Silva can now play on RW as all the CMs are fit which means Pep has another winger.
They are still in all 4 competitions and have matches very 3-4 days.

Sterling looking like a much better prospect long term even KDB.

I've done Sane -> Son (always my intention), Mendy is back (he's also just been rotated even without Mendy in the team) - Sterling is the only one I'd want from now and he can wait (hopefully)

I agree that Sterling seems the one to have going forward (28-30)

My issue is Son, insofar as getting him in woudl cost a hit, and getting Sterling (have him already) back would cost effectively another hit ....... and I can't see Son repaying that 8 point outlay, though it could be a close run thing

I considered son earlier but I was having a mental breakdown.

I think raheems the one I hold through the break and Kun will be the city asset I lose.

Wise to wait until tonight though of course.

I think I will keep Sterling as his place is more secure (at least against Chelsea) and he is a good placeholder for Hazard in case they are eliminated from FA Cup and have GW31-33 games.

I've had Sterling for a while now, him and Siggy are heading out for Son and Mane this week. He's not risen in price so I could get him back in fairly easily if required.

    Etheridge
    virgil - dohery - robertson
    pogba - son - salah - richarlison
    auba - rashford - jimenez

    fabianski - wanbissaka - pereira - billing.

who would you prefer for gw27 and beyond

A: Son + Auba (c) + Camarassa (starts for me in gw27 but benched thereafter)
B: Son (c) + Vardy + Anderson...gives a benching headache from gw28 onwards but can anderson (mci) in gw28, bench rich (LIV) in gw29 and bench Jimenez (che) in gw30.

Do you know anything about Jota injury yet? Guessing hes ok but want to be sure..

Thinking Sterling + Ings > Jota and Auba for -4.

Seems like a constant injury worry, so he's out for me even if fit I think.

Or could do Niasse to Auba instead, leaving Ings as my first sub.

Hmm its close. I'm playing Doherty, Shaw, AWB ahead of him I think. Benching Bednarek and Digne. But not 100% sure...

Robbo - Lindelof - Digne here, Bennett and Bednarek benched - have Pat in goal though otherwise would probably play Bennett.

May still do something still in prep for blank that means playing 4 at the back this week though ..

      Was going to post this,

Can see Aguero, Sane, Sterling all starting...and the FFS community rejoicing.

Final score Everton 1 - 0 City...Digne with a 90th minute free kick, securing maximum bonus points.

      World No.3 knows.

Don’t mate. I did it earlier in the season. Got my first ever captain blank as he subbed Laca at half time. The following weeks made things worse.

Auba or nothing would be my motto. Probably nothing.

Cheers guys. Interesting dilemma for me.
I have Firmino and would probably keep him but he was so bad last game I'm thinking he might not even start.

        Thinking
        (a) Laca/Sane
        (b) Auba/Mout (-4)

Have same thoughts as you on Laca though. Plus, i was only 1-0 against Hudd at home and Arsenal away form is pretty bad. If Firmino wasn't so awful i'd just leave it.

        Thoughts?

Think I'm doing Sane>Anderson instead of sterling>son to raise funds for firmino>Auba ahead of gw 27. Good plan ? Felipe got Fulham at home gw 27

which is better considering i want only 1 city asset for chelsea+blank27:

    b) aguero > auba

    full team + 2.5 itb:
    ryan - boruc
    doherty - pereira - lindelof - bednarek - bennet
    sane - mane - eriksen - son - hayden
    aguero - rashford - jimenez
