Liverpool options are expected to dominate the Blank Gameweek 31 captaincy.

You can now vote in the latest poll embedded below and watch our live video on the debate on our YouTube channel at 12:30pm today.

The Reds are travelling to face the worst defence in the Premier League when Fulham host them on Sunday afternoon.

That means that Mohamed Salah (£13.4m), Sadio Mané (£9.9m) or maybe even Roberto Firmino (£9.2m) will all compete for the armband.

The Senegalese is the most in-form option but most of his attacking returns have come at Anfield in recent Gameweeks.

The Liverpool defence may also receive some consideration with Andrew Robertson (£6.9m), Virgil van Dijk (£6.6m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.5m) the most-owned.

Chelsea are probably the only side that could realistically challenge the Reds’ stranglehold on the Gameweek 31 captaincy.

After proving the hero for Chelsea against Wolves, Eden Hazard (£10.9m) will almost certainly be the most fashionable skipper among Maurizio Sarri’s men.

They travel to face Everton, which may see Gonzalo Higuaín (£9.6m) also receive some consideration but he has only scored against Huddersfield and Fulham since arriving in England.

Bournemouth could be the provider of some differentials this week as they host Newcastle.

Callum Wilson‘s (£6.4m) return from injury through him back into the mix for Fantasy inclusion, and also boosted the credentials of Ryan Fraser (£6.2m).

Which keeper is most likely to keep a clean sheet in GW31? Thinking Allison?

Alisson a waste of a Liverpool slot IMO

And this. Much better to have Robertson or VVD.

This is a very short sighted view. None of the keepers are returning points anywhere near Allison either. So what you're gaining in the defenders, you're likely losing in the keeper.

The figures suggest otherwise. Fabianski + Robertson for example, far outscores Alisson & Doherty (highest scoring non Liverpool DEF at same price)

            (284 vs 255)

Fabianski + Robertson is and was more expensive than Alisson and Doherty. Also, you get to rotate your choice of defender that you pair with Alisson whereas with Fabianski, you get those guaranteed rubbish 2-3 points week after week. That's a flawed comparison you've got there.

            1. Catastrophe

              7 years, 4 months ago

I didn't say they were the same price, Doherty is the highest scoring non-liverpool defender in the same overall budget as Fab+Robertson.

If the cost needs to be exactly the same then just replace Robertson with VVD (278 vs 255).

The original argument was whether or not Alisson was worthy of one of the three Liverpool slots. Most people would say no, due to the value/form of cheaper keepers and ownership/form of Mane, Salah, VVD, Robertson, TAA, even Firmino.

          I disagree.

First, Boruc has 4.3 points per match, compared to Allisons 4.8. That is a better return for the price in itself, but even if we take that out of the equation. You also have VVD and Robbo outperforming all the other defenders, and Salah outperforming all the other players in the game. Not far behind him you have Mané. You also have TAA who is outperforming most defenders in PPP as well.

So I definitely think that Alisson is a waste of a Liverpool slot.

Guide to picking a clean sheet.

      1. Check if Huddersfield are playing.
      2. Buy the goalie facing Huddersfield.

    Best for BGW31 and BGW33? (FH32):

    A) Wilson, Fraser, Azpi
    B) Vardy, Brooks, Azpi
    C) Vardy, Fraser, Ake/Pereira
    D) Something else

Currently have 11 players for the blank GWs. However, one of them is Crouch who at best will get a 1 pointer.

Is it worth taking a hit to replace Doherty/AWB with Luiz or Ake? Or alternatively finding a replacement for Crouch? (would have to be a cheap one such as Sturridge or Calvert Lewen). Planning on FH32 and WC34

    Fabianksi
    Robbo TAA Digne
    Salah ____ Rich Westwood
    ____ Vardy Barnes

    Begovic Pogba AWB Bennett

    Option A:
    Robertson Pereira Trent
    Salah Maddison Fraser HAZARD
    Vardy Wilson
(I get to retain the value of Pogba, Jimi and Doherty)

    OptionB:
    Robertson Pereira Trent
Salah Madd Fraser MID-HIGH PRICE MID (who?)
    Vardy Wilson Higuain
(an extra hit, and sell Jimenez losing 0.6 TV, but 10 outfield players)

Zabaleta to Mepham gives me this starting 11 for GW31 and GW33 (FHing in GW32, before GW34 WC). Is it strong enough ?

    Lossl
    Robertson, Luiz, Mepham
    Salah, Hazard, F.Anderson, Frasar
Firmino, Barnes, Rondon (or AWB in GW33)

    Foster, AWB, Doherty, Pogba

    bottomed (apologies for the essay)

    ..Interested in your perspective here..!!

Watford v palace in fa cup action on saturday kick off at 12.15

...so basically we should have a good idea whether palace are going out or through by the bgw31 deadline at 2pm, as the game will be between 85 and 90mins at the time..

If watford win, palace have a gw in 33 (away to newcastle)

If that is the case would you avoid taking a hit to bin pva, and play the following 9 players or would you still do pva > azpi (-4) this week?

If palace go out, I should be able to field 9 for bgw31 and 11 for bgw33

    fab
    robbo - x - x
    salah - mane - hazard - barnes
    vardy - rondon - chicharito

    ederson - pogba - pva - awb - bednarek - doherty

more recently, however, they've seen red arrows

Interesting that, 6 more hits than me. The season before last I took a hell of a lot of hits (prob around the same as you this season) and got a very good finish, last season not nearly as many and got a mediocre finish!

Seems to be the case for many managers, depends how one plays the game I guess. If you tend to play an aggressive game, hits suit, if you play more conservative, hits likely don't suit .

      Taken very few.

Maybe I am biased, but I think hits have really paid off this season.

Feels like overthinking, or playing cautiously has not.

Like this week, Rash, Son, even Pog, on paper with recent form should have been moved on. I held onto to Rash and Son, (albeit probably would have done Brooks and Higuain) as I thought they would pay back my faith. Wrong. People moving them to Haz and Vardy have absolutely killed it.

Yup, prob play a bit like myself...try to jump on form/value players before the crowd and get big hitters in for their fixtures. One flaw in that I believe is, the likes of Sterling & Hazard should be set and forget in your team rather than transferred in and out!

In my opinion there is too much emphasis on whether a hit immediately pays off, when a lot of the focus should be on how the hit helps you constantly keep a step ahead. If taking a hit for a player I definitely want is ever a 50-50 decision, I will always take the hit because it puts me one step closer to my ideal team for the upcoming fixtures. Then the next GW, I can make a new FT or even take another hit, and it means I always feel closer to getting the team I would Free Hit, whereas I feel that a lot of managers simply accept their team was not optimal for a particular GW and don't take any proactive steps to change that.

I don't know about that, I think I've pretty much nailed Sterling and Hazard hauls most of the season and avoided them for their runs of blanks. What I haven't done well is captain the right option at the right time. My VCs are killing it this season, it's so frustrating.

    Afternoon all

My go-to plan at the moment is to take a -4 this week to field 11 for GW31 (and GW33) with FH32 and WC34. My 3 main options as it stands are:

    A) Sterling, Jimi > Haz, Wilson
    B) Sterling, Jimi > Vardy, Fraser
    C) Sterling, Jimi, Pogba > Vardy, Haz, Fraser (-8)

    Fab
    Robbo, TAA, Luiz, Pereira
    Salah (C), Sterling*, Maddison
    Higuain, Barnes, Jimi*
    (Hamer) (Pogba*, JWP, Doherty)

Which move looks best to you and is there any advantage to doing it now rather than waiting til after midweeks?

    Cheers

Rondon or Wilson for blanks ?
Have King and Fraser already. But Rondon GW33 is unsure yet.

    VVD, Azpi, Pereira
    Salah(c), Mane, Hazard, Fraser
    Higuain, Vardy, Wilson

    Button, Balbuena, Puncheon, Bennett

Yes and yes. They play Hudds (at home).. if he doesn't play you're fine and if he does you'll want him. Seems unlikely they'll throw him in with 10 minutes left

I’m keeping, would need a hit for me which I’m not keen on.

Probably would for free and had enough playing to feel comfortable about it

If Liverpool have a tough game midweek, how do we think that translates to Liverpool energy v Fulham? Especially if Salah stays on for 90/120 mins?

120 mins is very unlikely, just needs one goal. they will be a bit tired probably but they have to play their best tem v fulham

Mane Wilson ake is an option

Not sure I trust double hammers attack

Prefer double bou attack particularly given their 2 plum home games in 31 and 33

Is it crazy to be contemplating loosing VVD to get Mane? Own Robertson & Salah

Something like VVD, Son & Sterling > Luiz, Mane & Hazard -8. Would involve starting Schindler too

Not crazy, but personally I wouldn't. VVD did get a 20 point haul under two weeks ago.

I know, I loved it. I'll probably add I would captain Mane. Very impressed with him yesterday

How valuable is a wildcard this time in the season? i.e my rival in my ML has a 24 point lead but used his WC in January.

Extremely. Can't put a point total on it though

You can't but it would be interesting to know the average points a wildcard does gain the average player.

        You can. It’s 56 points

        15 * 4 - 4 😉

Depends how well you use it and how well the single GW players do.

Cheers TM. It will be used in the template strategy i.e GW34, so in theory with bench boost in GW35 should gain more points.

Any strategies for people who have played there free hit?

    Thinking:

    TC 32
    WC 34
    BB 35

    Currently I have 6 players for 31 and 8 for 33. Might -4 to make that 7.

How good is your GW32 team?

Average at best. 6 doubles. Thinking Augero for TC, but pep will almost certainly screw me over.

        Alisson, Hamer
        Wan-Bissaka, Tarkowski, Schär, Maguire, Robertson
        Salah, Son, Pogba, Tielemans, Moutinho
        Jiménez Agüero Rashford

  28. Gudjohnsen

    Any hits needed?

    Robertson, TAA, Luiz
    Hazard, Salah, Brooks,F.Anderson
    Wilson, Barnes, Higuain

    Bench: Lascelles

    Not playing: Button/Etheridge, Pogba, Bednarek

    1. Patrick Bateman

Would contemplate Boruc in for a hit... Even if Bournemouth concede you would only lose a net -2
