After yesterdays friendlies, what are the thoughts on Matip, and Zincenko?

Is Matip first choice over Gomez to partner VvD, and if so, is he a nice cheap way into Liverpool defence, albeit offers little attacking threat.

Man City looked like a first choice eleven (except Aguero) - should we be worried about Zincenko, or just wait and see what the Community Shield teams are?

Matip probably first choice for now.... but not worth investing in him imo. Least secure defensive asset and has nowhere near the attacking potential of other pool defenders.

His performances towards the end of last season made him favourite going in to this season to partner VvD, but useful for that game last night to pretty much confirm it.
In isolation 5.5m for a starting Liverpool defender is very good, as I see a few going for Allison.

Probably wait for Community Shield, but Pep could rotate Zinchenko even if he starts the Communiy Shield game.

I'm worried about this too, traditionally we've been happy to take the CS line ups as confirmation of the GW1 line ups, but I can see Angelino playing that game, and Zinchenko starting GW1.

            GW1 dream team;

Wickham - Greenwood - Nketiah, with the entire Norwich defence.

I really don’t get the Zinchenko hype. As a city fan I watched him each week he played and I like what he brings to the team etc (especially his 100% winning record!).

His style of play is to cut inside and find players like Silva or Bernardo who themselves are likely to assist the assist by threading it through to an overlap on the wing. My point is that (1) he isn’t likely to get explosive/any attacking returns and (2) he’s quite limited to a specific role which means for me he is more likely to be rotated. (General Pep rule: more versatility = more game time)

From an FPL perspective I’m even more baffled. He’s 5.5. For the same price you can get Coleman, nailed on week in week out + attacking threat. For 0.5 more you can get walker who is nailed city def. Why take the risk on Zinchenko? He is clearly gonna be a transfer out you will have to make, probably after playing 1 game out of 2 (West Ham or Spurs). If he was cheap or an explosive player he may be worth the gamble, but I just don’t see it

For me, I expect good clean sheet returns from City.
Laporte does carry enough attacking threat to be worth the extra £1m over Zinchenko

I have Digne already, and don't want an Everton defence double up with Coleman, although I do think in isolation Coleman is a good pick.

With Mendy out, it's Zinchenko vs Angelino (and Angelino hasn't looked great in preseason from the little I've seen).

Yeah that's fair enough. I do expect Zinchenko to play the first few games, but I wouldn't feel totally comfortable about it. I'm a bit of a dullard when it comes to defs, I just want nailed on long term options to set and forget. And then I can focus on jumping on attacking bandwagons

Having those nailed long term defenders is ideal, but it is nice when a more budget friendly option finds a spot for a few games.

Who do you currently have in defence?

              Digne, Robertson, TAA, 2 x 4.5s (maybe a 4.0 if one emerges)

It's quite pricey but I think they provide so much value, more so than any 6-7 range midfielders.

Plus if Liverpool don't seem to hit the ground running one of them becomes a handy cash cow.

              How about you?

I'm still far from settled on my team.
Going back and forward with a Salah - Sterling - Kane team with a starting 5.0m mid, and two rotating 4.5m defenders (instead of Zinchenko below)
or, dropping Sterling to KdB and having the defence as below and Perez instead of the 5.0 mid.

                Current TAA - Digne - Zinchenko (4.5m and 4.0m)

Yeah the big hitter dilemma is really tough this year. I'm also considering Aguero too but can only fit 2 of the 4 into a reasonable draft so far.

I think KDB's awkwardly priced tbh. He's not a player I would captain, and when City have the stand out fixture (which will happen more often than not) I will want Sterling/Aguero for the armband.

The way I see it, there are not that many weeks where I will fear Kane (c), due to Salah & Sterling having decent fixtures too. Whereas there are certain weeks early on I just won't want to be without a liv/city captain.

If you can make all 3 work though with 2 x 4.5s instead of Zinchenko that sounds great to me.

                    My latest attempt;

                    Pope (4.0)
                    TAA - Digne - Rotate O'Connell and Targett (4.0)
                    Sterling - Salah - Perez - Yarmolenko (4.5m)
Kane - King - Deeney (or any 6.5's)

or Yarmolenko to Norwood and then an extra £1m to use up front. Which could be Wilson and Adams/Joelinton for example.

Kane has home games against Villa and Newcastle in the first three. I am very happy to have him for those games as captain.

Yeah I think that's great. I'm unsure on Perez & Yarmolenko chances of starting, O'Connell & Targett too (although I know less about these teams). But all of these are at good price points so can easily make a sideways step to whoever emerges as the key 4.5 def or 6.5 mid.

Yes, it's the flexibility for me.
Last year I tried something similar.
Aguero, Kane and Salah...with a weaker midfield of Jota, Richarlison and Cairney (he was on penalties).
Richarlison started okay, well except his red card in GW3...but the other two were awful and I couldn't get rid of them.

Flexibility definitely is key. I want to make sure I can jump on the midfield bandwagons, they seem to make or break seasons each year. Trying to shoehorn Siggy in for that reason. Decent early fixtures, easily downgraded to whoever hits the ground running

I think there is value to be had, and I might be prepared to take hits to get on them early on.

Chelsea for example, RLC, CHO, Barkley, Mount all £6m. A striker for £7m.

Man Utd too, Martial, James, even Rashford isn't badly priced.

Thanks for the exchange, and good luck this season!

Why is no one in for Aderweirald? Mourinho wanted him last year and now he has a 25M release clause.

Leicester could replace Maguire with him.
    Arsenal could afford him.
City could plug that post-Kompany 4th CB hole with him.
Even Palace could solve the CB hole at that price.
And of course if United won't stump up for Maguire ....

    What's wrong with him?

Age and injuries maybe. Worth a punt at 25m though. I do suspect he wants ridiculous wages though.

And there's no way he goes to City to be their 4th choice CB.

Those three Liverpool spots should be the core of your team, I'd have 5 players from them if I could. Nailed on with great points potential.
Why would you waste one on a striker who may get 15 mins off the bench. Getting him for the one week he starts is a waste of a transfer.

NUFC aren't going to be anywhere near as bad as what's being predicted, Rondon had never had a +10 EPL goal season before last year either and at times he was worth the money, between him Wesley, DCL, Benteke and Ings someone will likely offer value for money though it's very unlikely that we'll have a Jimenez repeat.

With the whole Everton Zouma/Gueye leaving situation, I've just swapped out Coleman for Dunk and saved myself 1 million.

Everton are a wait and see for me now. So its now 3 at the back until someone from Chelsea / Spurs emerges or Everton prove themselves with appropriate replacements.

        No Everton players at all.

        My current team is this:

Heaton (if he goes to Villa)
        TAA / Robbo / Zinchenko / Dunk / Rico
        Salah / Sterling / Perez / Mount / Dendonker
        Lacazette / Wilson / Greenwood

The plan would be to shift Mount (probably) or Dendonker (possibly) to Son in GW3
And Lacazette and Wilson to Chelsea No.1 and another forward option depending on the other moves.

Currently on a 442 with Digne and Dunk as the 4th defender. I think 8m is a lot for Siggy/Rich and that Digne is enough for now with his various ways to get points.

I'm worried about Everton fullstop. I don't think anyone from outside their backline is necessary unless they invest in a new striker. I have no Everton at all at this point and think Chelsea will be a more productive source of points once we know more.

      I'd forget Wickham

He may get a few minutes off the bench but Roy is very conservative on subs. He's not part of the A team even with Zaha out. He's really getting minutes when Palace play their second string in preseason.

Could be. quite ok later in the season. There's a player in there. All the signs are though that he's being eased in gently.

I don't think many using the Salah / Sterling rotation will captain Sterling at home to Spurs GW2, it'll be Southampton away. The fear of going without Salah GW1 is too much for me. You could be 40 points behind rivals a couple of hours after the season kicks off, not worth it.

That isn't my point. The Liverpool game is a Friday night kick off so those going without Salah could be chasing 40 points at 10pm. Kane could match Salah's output, but it isn't till Saturday evening.

I went without Salah for periods last season, and it was no fun at all. Liverpool score a lot of goals, 22 more than Spurs last season, and hoping he wasn't involved every time you check your phone wasn't enjoyable.

At the end of the day, its personal preference, but Salah's returned 259 and 303 points over the last two seasons, Kane hasn't got close to those kind of scores ever, but no doubt he's a great player and will be in my team at some stage.

I actually enjoyed it most without Mo - he hamstrung my team and crippled my captaincy choices, I also did very well without him in TC week.

        Exactly this

Of Salah & Kane both have superb GW1 fixtures

But one has missed huge chunks of the last 6 months with chronic ankle problems, has been moving ever deeper positionally, and gets 4 points for a goal

The other has hit nearly 600 points in his last 75-ish games, and gets 5 points for a goal plus a CS bonus

In an either/or scenario in passing the extra 1.5m every time - but there is no doubt Kane could smash it

I respect your opinion that you don't feel Coleman is as good at scoring points as TAA/Robbo/VVD - I also don't think anyone said he is - but hey ho

But you will hopefully notice he is cheaper (significantly cheaper)

What are your thoughts on him scoribg more than both Digne & Sigurdsson year to date (in less games than both)?

The only reason I'm going with digne is his set pieces and bonus points
Other than that don't trust everton
Now that gueye has gone double up is suicide

Interesting that Coleman outscored Digne year to date though, no?

Henderson to go back on loan at Sheff Utd. Anyone prefer him to Pope?

13.5m to spend on my frontline. Rest of my team is very template.
I was on King + Jota but now I'm thinking about Haller + Wesley/Sharp to have some differentials in my team.
    Thoughts?

King and Jota are safer options. Haller + Wesley/Sharp includes 2 punts which is too many to start the season with imo. Especially since they are both strikers

Haller + Wesley, two big target men. Get the ball wide and put in plenty of crosses... you'll score loads of goals mate.

All 6.5 forwards are punts imo. The only one who has a great goal involvement record is EL tied.

They may look value over the season but that's on the basis of long term holds which most aren't prepared for.

Think this will be pretty close to my gw1 final team with 0.5m itb with the team below:

    Ederson - 4m
    Robertson - TAA - Digne - Gibson - Lundstram
    Salah - Sterling - Fraser/Moura - Perez - Dendonker
    Wilson - Wesley - Greenwood

    Main factors:
    A. Ederson in because I'm not entirely confident of Zinchenko starting with Angelino starting yesterday.

    B. Will play a 442 with rotating Gibson/Lundstram. 0.5m itb to upgrade either of them if they're not starters.

    C. Digne over Coleman as he's the only Everton player in my team and gives various ways of getting points. Plus, Everton aren't scoring as many thus setpieces will play a major role.

    D. Would like your opinions over who to get, Fraser or Moura? Keeping in mind I already have Wilson as well.

    Cheers all 🙂

      D. You could go Moura for GW1 as Son is suspended and then use your transfer that week to get Fraser who will get more game time and over better fixtures

RMT (T is for template 😉

    Pickford
    Digne TAA VVD Walker
    Sterling KDB Sigs Fraser Tielemans
    King
    -------
    Button Walker-Peters McGoldrick Greenwood
    ------

    McGoldrick is apparently on Pens...
WP Im anticipating to be 1st team
Greenwood is fodder which may bloom this season who knows

    Cheers!

Salah will punish you. First name on most teamsheets on here and very very likely to score big again this season.

Delofeu is a very talented player I know but can also often get hauled on 60 minutes. With Deeney on pens isn't he a better option or am I missing something with him?

    Hi mates.

My only Salah Sterling Kane draft until now. Does it seem ok? Or rest of the team is too weak?

    Ryan
    Coleman, TAA, Robertson, Chenko
    Robinson, Perez, Salah, Sterling
    Kane, Wesley

    Cheers!

This actually looks great, I'd downgrade one of TAA/Robbo to VVD and upgrade Zinchenko who is a very high rotation risk. Digne, Azpilicueta, Walker all great options.

That's pretty good to be fair! I'd also downgrade Zinchenko, probs to a solid 4.5 like Dunk and upgrade your first sub
