The third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup takes place today.

Following the success of the first two competitions in February and November 2018, which featured around 80 players and raised over £2,000 for the Melanoma Research Foundation and for Campaign Against Living Miserably, this time we’ll be raising money for the Stroke Association.

Most of you will know that Joe, a much-loved member of FFS and the wider Fantasy Football community, recently suffered a bleed on his brain. Thankfully, after a fairly hellish month, he is gradually returning to normal.

The Charity Cup will be held this morning at Whittington Park Astro Pitch in London linked heremeeting at 9:15 am to finalise teams etc.

The full address is Holloway Road, Islington, London N19 4RS. The closest Tube station is Archway on the Northern Line (8min walk) and the closest London Overground station is Upper Holloway (2min walk).

As always, the precise format (including squad sizes) will depend on numbers but everyone will get decent game-time in a 7 or 8 aside format.

This is real-life football (not an FPL online cup!) with players of all ages, fitness and abilities very welcome.

As with previous tournaments, we’ll be organising players into squads, so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to invite guest players to boost the numbers.

If you would like to take part please email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com with your contact details and you will be added to the WhatsApp group for further information (unless you state that you would rather receive information by separate email only).

Even if you are not able to play, please donate to the Stroke Association at the Just Giving page which is linked here.

I'm still surprised people are doubling up, at the moment something isn't right in our defending.

      I can see Norwich scoring

Liverpool may score 4 with an assist or 2 from any of their defenders. They offer great value and I would take them over any 7 mil mid until things settle down.

The only thing it's made me rethink is maybe it's best to get TAA & Robbo. (Currently on on TAA & VVD)

At least if they concede, you know there's a decent chance of an assist.

But VVD has a chance to knock in a header from one of the 1000 corners and attacking free kicks that Liverpool have

Anybody else made over 50 transfers since initial set up for season?

Curious to know if people pen and paper it, or lock in the draft and play with it that way. I change my team a lot. I mean A LOT! The frustrating thing is day 1 come soon in, and I know at some point a big a scorer once sat on my squad screen, but I had a flap and moved them for someone else. I’ve probably had 10 combinations of XI at least.

    I think I’m ready.

    Robertson TAA Zinchenko Digne

    Lucas Zaha Maddison Sterling

    Jota Wilson Firmino

I sound mad. Auto correct has pulled my pants down there.

What I mean is that: I have at some point undoubtedly had a combination of week 1 top scorers. My tinkerman tactics leave a bitter taste when I know I had a player, for a time and transferred them out before kick off GW1.

I don’t. Firmino is a risk. Could go to a vardy, laca or cheaper still to a Chelsea forward once pinned on. But no main men in sterling’s captain bracket. I agree. Hmm.

Its a shame we can only pick 3 Norwich players.

    1. JohnnyMagrinho
      7 years, 1 day ago

Haha. Even as a Liverpool fan this made me laugh.

I can see Liverpool finishing 3rd in the league this year. Sport is mainly mental and after winning the CL I can just see a lot of the players becoming complacent. Plus, we're bringing a few younger academy players into the squad (I know they'll be used more in cups and easier games) so there's going to be something of a transitional period.

Klopp keeps banging on about not having as much cash as City and we don't, but we can definitely afford to strengthen in the areas we need to, mainly for squad depth more than anything.

I'm wary of the Pool double up for defenders. If anyone thinks Robbo and Trent are going to get over 20 assists between them again just because it happened last year, they're mad.

Yeah its going to be a weird season, no proper buys will hurt. Should still be the next best to City but the gap might be heading for double figures this time around.

Can see plenty of CS' again and the full backs doing well, but not hitting last seasons numbers. People also aren't picking their teams now for the whole season, Liverpool have a nice opening.

Coming to the conclusion that saving 2.5 on KDB over Sterling might be the way to go ( could be utter folly of course) when combined with 5 at the back I like it. Current possible weak points are Coleman and King. Coleman and donkey can be changed for an emerging budget mid and cheap defender.

Nicebest way to play him is first on bench if he gets even some minutes probably more likely than Dedonker to get an attacking return. It he gets zero minutes then donkey can come in.

I don't think 5 at the back is the way to go. Yes maybe go 4 defenders but I think 5 is too inflexible.

      Thanks all.
Agree 451 is probably a better formation but dependent on getting the right cheap mid correct early on. Right now I don't know who that is. I liked El Ghazi but direct competition from Villas newest signing.
Greenwood - at possibly on minutes is great - 4.5 forwards just don't get minutes an exception to the rule this year would be great. I am not expecting much so Dedonker is my only realistic bench player and it's a bit risky

Any Norwich fans give insight into the chances of Patrick Roberts starting in the wide right attacking role. When on loan at Celtic he was outstanding, would be a good 5.5 option if he was a starter.

Buendia played 85% of the games there and was one of the better performers on paper.

Steiperman and Hernandez floating around too.

I think between them they’ll do quite well for their value. 300+ points or so between them. Just gotta get the right one at the right time.

Having watched Villa pre season goals, Jota & Roberts look very similar players, left footed technical players coming in off the right. I think one of these players can be a good squad player to rotate with a 4.5 defender. Just think that people get brainwashed into big back 5, with every RMT. How many teams do well with the majority of the players only spread out over 4 or 5 clubs?

Buendia and Roberts are the two out and out right wingers at the club. Roberts is having an excellent pre-season, ahead of Buendia, who is struggling with a few niggling injuries.

Buendia should be back for the two friendlies this week, which might help make Farke’s intentions clearer.

    This could be interesting:

    4.5
    TAA, VVD, Zinchenko, Coleman
    Trossard, Perez, Fraser, Salah, Sterling
    Jota, Wilson

    4.0, Wesley, Kelly, Greenwood

Everyone will probably say benching headache but not really. Can bench Perez for chelsea away and then Fraser for Man City.

    Can then assess.

Also, gives me a decent sub for when Zinchenko is rotated.

Who do you think Is a better combination

    A. Lundstram + Deulofeu

    B. Taylor + Sharp/Wesley/Benteke

Basically, i currently have one 4M def in my starting 11 (or dendoncker). Looking to downgrade Deulo to a 6M and upgrade either Kelly or Lundstram

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Anderson is the start of the ugliness.

    Pope
    VVD Robbo Taylor
    Salah Sterling BSilva Siggy Perez
    Jota King

    Button,zouma,greenwood,lundstrom

Is Zouma nailed with Ruddiger out injured? Plan on 352 and benching Taylor for Zouma after gw1
