Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Community Shield this afternoon and the match could be as big a signpost as any as to how the two sides will line up in Gameweek 1.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) both make their first starts of pre-season for the Reds and are joined by Divock Origi (£5.5m) in the front three.

Sadio Mane (£11.5m) is yet to return following his involvement with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Alisson (£6.0m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m), Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) all unsurprisingly feature in the Liverpool backline but Joe Gomez (£5.5m) has been given the nod over Joel Matip (£5.5m) to partner van Dijk at centre-half.

James Milner (£5.5m) is ruled out as a precaution due to a tight muscle.

There are no huge shocks in the Manchester City starting XI, with Aymeric Laporte (£6.5m) missing out through injury as expected.

Sergio Aguero (£12.0m), Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) and Ederson (£6.0m) are only among the substitutes after their late return from the Copa America.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) again leads the line for the Citizens and will be flanked by Leroy Sane (£9.5m) and Bernardo Silva (£8.0m).

Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m) is part of City’s central midfield three, while Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.5m) starts again at left-back.

Kick-off at Wembley is at 15:00 BST.

There's always some element of luck when City beat Liverpool though. Mane red, the ball being inches from being over the line back in January and now today.

It's usually a case of City's defensive mistakes not being punished.

True, but then the onus is on Liverpool to finish it better and make the recovery impossible. They wouldn't have needed luck if Salah's finish was better, for example.

I dislike both teams but I disagree with that. You have to look at it from City's point of view as well. They missed a penalty at Anfield last season, Sterling missed the 2 on 1 chance before Liverpool's equaliser today etc.

KDB looks around 70-80% fit comparing to his top season.

    Heaton
    TAA, VVD, Coleman
    Salah, Sterling, Fraser, Pérez, Robinson
    Vardy, Adams

    4.0, Targett, Greenwood, Lundstram

0.5 itb to upgrade Robinson for Barkley/Mount once it all gets settled.

Robbo and VVD solid....Gomez impressed TAA not at his best......KDB looked good in a no10 role for most of the match but clearly not 100% fit. Stirling and Salah doing what they do best. Thought Stones and Bravo played well.

A and not that close imo...

    2. JohnnyMagrinho

I'd go VVD or Robbo over TAA (he's rotation risk with Gomes and last season's successes will more likely be repeated by Robbo as he has less competition for his space and is a better all round player).

I'd go Pereira over either of Digne or Coleman. If you have another 0.5 I'd want Alonso before either of those, too.

Won't be touching any Wolves assets yet. EL is going to mess with rotation and Jimenez slightly injured. Some good value to be found in between 6.5 and 8m for forwards anyway, so shouldn't be too hard to find someone.

I'd be more inclined to invest more money in midfield than attack unless you're after Auba/King/Aguero, personally.

Going to get shot down for this, but whilst I thought Salah was excellent, he still looked a bit off his sharpest self. If he had scored today, you'd be looking at 7 points... Auba has new and BUR.
