Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) are expected to do battle for the Gameweek 2 captaincy.

The Egyptian was the overwhelming favourite for the armband in Gameweek 1 and rewarded his backers with a 12 point haul against Norwich.

However, Sterling went one better by netting a hat-trick and coming away from a 5-0 win over West Ham with a 20-point haul.

That big score is likely to inspire a host of Fantasy managers to captain the Englishman in Gameweek 2 as Spurs come to the Etihad Stadium.

Sterling was involved in 20 goals at home last season, 12 his own and eight assists, only Salah registering more involvements in front of his own fans (21).

Meanwhile, Spurs looked far from assured defensively as took their time to get into gear against Aston Villa in Gameweek 1.

However, Salah faces a trip to Southampton, a team he is more than capable of registering attacking involvement against.

Last season the Egpytian scored more goals away from home than any other player while Southampton kept just three clean sheets in front of their own fans.

Only Manchester United managed fewer than that in the whole of 2018/19 (two).

After registering a 13-point haul against Aston Villa, there is plenty of interest in Harry Kane (£11.0m).

However, it seems unlikely that many will back him for the captaincy considering it’s a trip to Manchester City up next.

More likely to trouble the favourites as a differential option is Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m).

He scored the only goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Newcastle and faces a Gameweek 2 Saturday lunch-time meeting with Burnley.

You can now vote in the Gameweek 2 captain poll either below or in the website’s side-bar.

Joe and David will be discussing the captaincy on our YouTube channel at 12:30 pm on Monday afternoon too.

I'm weirdly tempted to do Pope ---> Heaton this week. Having watched Villa and Heaton I can really see him getting some major cleanie and save points this season. Could be a better set and forget than Pope

      wasted transfer in my opinion

Or is it one of those transfers that you always put off because you think it's a wasted transfer - then end up missing out on 30 extra points over the season

You're not gonna keep him for the season. Just until your first wildcard.

I only ever have a 4.5m goalkeeper so it's quite possible I'd keep Heaton or Pope all season

Yeah, but my point is, for this transfer, you only have to worry about whether he'll outscore him until your first wildcard, not the whole season since you get another chance to choose then.

Hmm true, but Heaton's fixtures are pretty juicy during the time between now and my likely WC

Can't disagree with you there. Just a lame transfer to make though. Maybe wait until GW3 at least to see how Villa do one more week. I was impressed with them too, but it was still just one game.

stick mate, pope got 8 pts - nicked a bap while his team got 3 goals

sure he has a tough game - but i think over the course of 20/30 gws the pt gap between them will be small - if not pope with more pts due to a solid defence in front of him

surely you have more pressing issues, you could even save and have 2 fts for a big move for gw3

I started the season with both Pope and Heaton in my squad. Hope to settle on one or the other (or another £4.5m option altogether if one emerges) once I wildcard, whenever that may be.

Started Pope GW1 and intend to start Heaton GW2.

Trossard owners need to hold. Potter confirmed he was very unlucky not to start and that he preferred Gross as it's the opening game and away from home. Very strong chance Tross starts this GW.

      Torn

Even if he does start there's the nagging doubt that Potter loves a rotation and he'll be well short of regular 90 minutes. He was brought in early and had a full preseason really so his bad luck could continue. Only if he hauled would I not get rid before 3 I suspect. The spectre of the one pointer hangs heavy.

Buendia is his direct competition in my thoughts. He offers surety of starts and Norwich created a fair amount in what will be the toughest of their early fixtures. From what I saw I'd be happy to give him a run of 4/5 matches to see if he could get a couple of returns in that time - not expecting much from my 6.0 just the occasional contribution.

Do you good folks think KDB/Kane to Sterling/Rashford is a no-brainier??

    1. slove
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 12 days ago

No, It is a minus 4 for a start and you're pretty much swapping players with the same fixtures. If you really want it in the long term then go for it but there is clearly a reason you went for KDB and Kane in the first place and not with Sterling, think about that before making any rash decisions

Only real contentious issues for me ATM are Barkley and Moyra.

What do we reckon of their involvement going forward?

Barkley getting hauled off seemed strange to me as mount looked out of his depth.

Will Moyra still be around when Erickson is reintroduced to the first xi?

Surely Lamela gives way? And then one of the deeper midfielders when Son is back?

Jose’s “basic principles” of football comments yesterday minded me to the “basic principles of a decent FPL start”

1)Don’t knee jerk unless you’re prepared to acknowledge that (actually) u picked crap players based on someone else’s advice (again).

    2) fa cup losers hangover is a real thing and won’t end until the manager gets the boot.

    3) “playing europa qualifiers has really helped our league form” said no manager ever

    4) if you captain a city player in the first month , there’s a 50/50 chance pep will bench him until the 80th minute

    1. Bruce Lee
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 12 days ago

Does it make sense to start Lundstram over Moura for GW2, or am I crazy?

Doesn't sound crazy to me. People fall into the trap early season that their 4.0s must be benched just because they are 4.0 - see AWB last season, for example.

You're not crazy, but I would start Moura and hope for a goalfest.

Moura will be running around, chasing the ball all game. Big 1 pointer with a yellow card

I don’t mind playing defs over mids but Moura is likely to be up alongside Kane, so I’d start him.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if Pep goes with BSilva vs Spurs. Was a bit of a shock that.

1 week gone - you are correct so far

wilson did get an assist though... you can't expect 10+ pts from him every week

Averaged 1 hit pr. GW last two seasons, and even though I wish to lower hits taken I would like to bring in Rashford before next GW.

    Would you do?
    A. Lucas + Wood -> McGinn + Rashford (-4)
    B. Lucas + King -> McGinn + Rashford (-4)

    Team is:
    Ryan (Button)
TAA - Robertson - Digne (Lundstram - Rico)
    Salah - Sterling - Martial - Lucas - Pérez
    King - Wood (Greenwood)

You have Martial and Greenwood, Rashford is tempting but maybe you would want AWB for the 3rd slot.
Also.. you have Martial, wouldn't go all out on their attack just yet.
If I had to choose I would do A
Best to just hold and wait for more information

I get your point, and thanks for the reply.
But it seems that there could be found good value in that United attack.
I would double up on any attack as long as the value is there.

If Rashford scores again against Wolves he will be 9.0 in no time, and any team scoring 4 against Chelsea needs to be taken serious (regardless of Chelseas poor performance).

Greenwood is just 3bench fodder thanks to OOP Lundstram and WB Rico at 4.0.

Personally I think Woods fixtures is better than Kings, and Burnley started stronger. The only reason why Wood might go before King is the high ownership.

Pérez can make a goal against that Chelsea side, and Arsenal always ship goals for fun. Could be a quiet strong GW2 side this:

        Ryan
        TAA - Robertson - Digne
        Salah (C) - Sterling - Martial - Pérez - McGinn
        Rashford - Wood

Wait on Rashford, you already have Martial who will reap better PPM at 1m less

Thanks for the reply, but if United score 3 goals every week I would like both, because then they would be really underpriced.

Those kids got some speed, and it seems to me OGS really likes fast players (with and without the ball) in his attack.

James could even be a good option if he nails down a spot.

In two days Rashford is 8.6 which is practically 9.0 before the use of the first WC.

Random question: Yarmolenko not even on bench on Sat for WHU? Saw a few people touting him on here pre season. Injured?

Damn shame, I was watching him pre-season and loved the way he cut inside and put shots in. Was on my radar for these good fixtures as a cheap enabler
