Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) are expected to do battle for the Gameweek 2 captaincy.

The Egyptian was the overwhelming favourite for the armband in Gameweek 1 and rewarded his backers with a 12 point haul against Norwich.

However, Sterling went one better by netting a hat-trick and coming away from a 5-0 win over West Ham with a 20-point haul.

That big score is likely to inspire a host of Fantasy managers to captain the Englishman in Gameweek 2 as Spurs come to the Etihad Stadium.

Sterling was involved in 20 goals at home last season, 12 his own and eight assists, only Salah registering more involvements in front of his own fans (21).

Meanwhile, Spurs looked far from assured defensively as took their time to get into gear against Aston Villa in Gameweek 1.

However, Salah faces a trip to Southampton, a team he is more than capable of registering attacking involvement against.

Last season the Egpytian scored more goals away from home than any other player while Southampton kept just three clean sheets in front of their own fans.

Only Manchester United managed fewer than that in the whole of 2018/19 (two).

After registering a 13-point haul against Aston Villa, there is plenty of interest in Harry Kane (£11.0m).

However, it seems unlikely that many will back him for the captaincy considering it’s a trip to Manchester City up next.

More likely to trouble the favourites as a differential option is Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m).

He scored the only goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Newcastle and faces a Gameweek 2 Saturday lunch-time meeting with Burnley.

You can now vote in the Gameweek 2 captain poll either below or in the website’s side-bar.

Joe and David will be discussing the captaincy on our YouTube channel at 12:30 pm on Monday afternoon too.

Best 6m or less midfield ?
    Trezeguet
    McGinn
    Grealish
    Barkley
    Mount
    Or suggest other ?

I liked Trezeguet better than McGinn. Didn’t like that he was taken off though. McGinn looks like he could be a card magnet.

Mount. His average position was high up the pitch. Corners. Lead the team in touches in the box. Played the full 90.

Would like to see a few matches. I can get a see of what their attack will look like when Frank has a full squad to choose from.

Captain Salah/Sterling is just the safe option. Do we really want to follow the flock? I'm thinking there's potential for differential by backing Aguero, Mane/Origi, etc. Any suggestions... Thinking of transferring in a unique captaincy choice who has the potential to score higher, but still keeping Salah for a bit of coverage.

i'm now a fan of being a non-boring player and not going with the template, but captaincy is an unneeded risk... salah and sterling are way too good to ignore for captaincy

In addition to Salah/Sterling being safer options, I would argue that Aguero/Mane/Origi aren't the next best options due to the high(ish) risk of them coming in from the bench or being subbed off early.

For this early stage I would opt to get it steady and low risk for captaincy ... differentials, if wished, would on other part of my team ... differential captain will be deployed later when there is clear 'business case' 🙂

So that means we were both here way back to the "Shorey" article days with Puffinboy and the other originals. It is fitting that we did that draft together. Good luck this season!

    1. Bubz
      • 13 Years
      7 years, 12 days ago

Spurs in general didn't look great and struggled to create space and chances, so Moura in turn looked a bit ineffective for most of the game. He would do well in a game with more space and counter attack though, which Man City potentially could be

The fact that lamela played should be heartening that while Alli is out you've got a chance of Kane flanked by Moura and son pushing on rather than an either or. I'd keep for next 2 as no obvious alternative candidates (apart from martial) have raised their hands yet

        That was my assumption.

But OGS barely played Martial regularly last time out and I was all set on avoiding him because of that until the last minute. All his decent returns pretty much came under Mou.

Without Lukaku around United look curiously light up top with Greenwood next in line. I imagine it would take another form downturn to bring back Sanchez though.

Martial is looking good, 7.5 OOP striker in a top 6 team. Has the managers backing too, 90 mins and Rashford got subbed, all the signals are aligning. Heard here that Pogba is still on pens and he just gave it to Rashford, so thats something to consider too

I didn't get him in for a 1 or 2 GW punt, being subbed is obviously disappointing but the fact he started as the 10 in a big game is a good sign for me. Has a great run of fixtures and has gotten the only one I was worried about out of the way. Keeping him for another few GWs, it is important to remember that he is only 6m and that it was one game, can easily see him grabbing some points in the coming weeks

Am i the only one to take a punt on Adrian in goal for a few GWs? Expected to play next 5/6 games.

    Adrian-(Ryan)
    AWB-Dunk-Kelly (Hanley-KWP)
    Sterling-Fraser-Martial-Barkley(perez)
    Jota-Aubamayeng-Kane

Do i downgrade Kane or Aubamayeng to rashford, downgrade Perez/Barkley to Dendoncker, and boost Fraser into Salah over the next couple of GWs?

Yeah - and on the website, hitting refresh refreshed the points for your players, but didn't refresh the match info. Was all a bit glitchy, and seemed a bit slower than normal. No excuses really for FPL when you see what a site like Ragabolly's can do.

      B or C.

Martial is at Wolves. Not exactly a tasty fixture. If you don’t like City to keep a clean sheet against Spurs, Moura is as likely as any to nab a goal on the counter. Wouldn’t bash you for moving King (because I hate him as a fantasy asset), but I’d like to see Norwich when they aren’t playing the European champions. I know that they are attacking and all, but can’t hurt to wait for another week of information.

Don't know if anybody has said but on Man Utds YouTube channel Rashford confirmed he's not the number 1 penalty taker. He says 4 or 5 people are comfortable taking one which makes it harder for the keeper to predict where the ball is going to go

Martial still looks great value at 7.5m playing almost like a striker.
When he's in form and getting mins he delivers.
His biggest problem in the past couple of season has been not enough mins because of injuries, dip in form/morale at United, competition for his spot and being forced to play on the LW which dont seem to be the problems this year hopefully.

      1. The Seagulls and the Trawle…
        • 9 Years

His biggest problem is his mentality, how he approaches this game of football. Nevertheless statistically he looks good. Imagine if he discovers that hunger...

        That's an odd straw man.

I think Kante will be back and Zouma will be watching on his phone using MacDonalds WiFi. So I don't expect the same awful performance. And I'm not especially taken with Perez position

I watched an interesting interview with Zola a few hours ago (assman of Chelsea last season) who explained why Kante can't play alongside Jorginho in the double-pivot. We can't assume Lamps will drop Zouma next GW. Not a straw man at all.
