From John Lundstram (£4.0m) to Mason Greenwood (£4.5m) and everyone in between, there was almost as much pre-season discussion about budget Fantasy options as there was regarding premium assets.

Those heavy hitters excelled in Gameweek 1, with five of the six £10.0m+ Fantasy options all delivering returns for their owners.

Seven of the eight £8.0m+ Fantasy Premier League forwards who played this weekend banked at least one goal or assist, while the five £8.5m+ midfielders who started in Gameweek 1 all delivered too.

As Fantasy managers try to shoehorn as many expensive options into their squads, then, we need cut-price FPL assets more than ever.

With that in mind, we will assess the players in the bottom two price rungs of each position to see how they fared in the weekend just gone.

Is it worth burning 4 to go from Barkley & Trosser to McGinn & Perez (or alternatives - suggestions welcome!)?

With no pressing transfer issues & an original plan to have 2 FT for GW3, would you do Ryan to Adrian?

(My nemesis has double pool defense & Ryan)

Noooo. It’s free now but if you need two transfer next week it’s costing you -4. Ryan has great fixtures.

      Nah

Alisson out surely reduces cs potential and it’s an effective double transfer unless you plan early WC and get rid of Adrian that way.

Pope in and set and forget right now

    Or

    Ryan in set and forget

Or Ryan for a few weeks and then switch to Pope?

Already have Dunk could save .5 downgrading him because wouldn't double with Brighton.

I'd get Martial first, Moura has Man City in GW2 and Son returns from GW3 and BSilva has rotation risks with KDB and Mahrez being included in the squad. I wouldn't do a hit tho.

I wasn’t thinking of it as following the crowd, more a case of Everton don’t seem to be showing any attacking threat and Martial is playing out of position in a team that are scoring for fun

It was only one game. Man U were very clinical, not sure they’l, have the same efficiency ratio every GW. As for Martial vs Siggy, both had one clear chance, Martial scored it with his knee/shin. I would definitely hold Siggy at least for this GW. Wolves are no pushovers.

Oh and Palace face all 3 promoted sides in the next 6. Last season Guaita and one first choice central defender meant 50% cs against non top 6.

There was a startling impact on Palace defence when he started playing. Same was seen in preseason when he conceded just 1 out of the dozen or so goals Palace let in.

Burnley/Norwich. Hard to call if they will stay consistent after one game mind! I still think Bournemouth and Southampton will be decent this season too.

Probably more out of boredom than anything else, but is it worth transferring Pope out for Ryan/Heaton/Henderson considering Pope's awful 3 weeks of fixtures?

Also, Perez to Tielemans worth a shout?

Pope maybe, Perez no, but I'd rather keep the transfer. I'm sure you didn't get Pope for just 1 game, so stick with it.

This is true, mainly because I thought he'd have the best chance at a clean sheet in gameweek one & I have Montoya.

I may switch to Heaton and then bring Pope back in 4 weeks. Wolves, Liverpool and Arsenal doesn't sound great.

So you're saying a temp Auba for GW2 and then Kane for long term, that's actually a good idea, although if Auba goes mental this week there would be a high chance his price will rise considerably

Spurs fixtures are so good after GW2, I think most, ideally, will want some form of Spurs attacking coverage. Whether that can happen with so many expensive defences, Salah, Sterling etc, I'm not sure.

I personally think a lot are waiting for Son in GW3 and then prefer his into the spurs attack.
That's what is confusing, in Arsenal, for me at least, there's only one feasible attack option that's Auba, on the other hand, Son can very well replaced for a Kane absence

My plan has been to switch from Auba to Kane in GW3 but after Arsenal face Pool they have Wat & Villa so I may be tempted to just stick. That said Spurs run is also very nice indeed so though call.

He can play wide right, or as one of the 8's yes, so his versatility helps, but there is a lot of competition for those CM roles... De Bruyne, David Silva, Gundogan, Foden.

De Bruyne and Bernardo as the 8's - not a combination we've seen very often at all, but it'd be interesting.

My feeling is Bilva is likely to be the Dilva replacement in the end. Thinking he’ll get a run in the centre this time.

Last season Pep spoke about his selection choice being between Dilva and Sane depending on oppo. Bilva was for a Pep team virtually nailed - it was just position that varied.

Lots of roulette is of course the likely scenario. I very much suspect Sterling and KdB will miss a few too A’s fixtures pile up when CL starts - that’ll open the door to more combinations

I think Foden is earmarked for the Dilva role. On the right Pep calculates whether he wants a winger or inside forward.

                Could well be.

Foden getting really regular minutes this time could cause chaos. I just don’t see Bilva missing out on a semi regular basis - didn’t Pep describe him as the perfect footballer or something?

I do think though that Mahrez will get heaps of minutes. On the wing he stretches play and enhances Sterling on the other side. Watching closely to see if he could be a valid move sometime

What's that bit about Pep's selection choice being between David Silva and Sane, depending on opposition? They play different roles - can you link me to the quote?

If was towards the end of last season - about when Sane started getting minutes again.

The idea was Dilva in the pocket was good for deeplying defences and Sane better for high lines.

From memory Pep then did the exact opposite and played Sane against Burnley!!!

I meant Bilva and Mahrez down the right. In an article here on City - can't remember which one.
Last season he made it clear that Bilva was his Mr. Reliable, hence a lot of minutes. I'm sure he regards him exactly the same now, but Mahrez will be asking him questions, making selection decisions more difficult.
I think Dilva will be phased out so that Foden gets more gametime, but whilst a run of games will be important, I can't see him starting regularly and frequently enough to take a punt on him, so for us he'll be extremely frustrating.
Basically, in midfield I'd stick with Sterling and Kev - the others are too rotational.

                  Agreed pretty much

I think I’m going to hold off on KdB though. I’m stuck on the thought that both he and Sterling will miss about one in seven. Put that together and you could end up missing a prime mid almost one in three.

Paranoid? Don’t think so. I’m assuming a certain amount of KdB management and Sterling missed fairly regularly last season.

And that's where Dendoncker appears! 😉
Last season those City players who played a lot despite rotation still turned out to be high scorers and great value. I'm assuming Kev will carry the baton - until his season-ending injury, anyway!

                      Long live Dendo 🙂

I’m with you on believing him wildly underpriced. There’s a couple of 5.5s who might get there but I’m quite happy with him in their place right now.

General team strength is a fair part of my selection criteria this season and I’m happy sticking with Wolves over Villa say

      last season

      Sane 1850
      Mahrez 1350
      Sterling 2750
      Bernardo 2850
      Foden 350

Would expect Sane's minutes to be distributed between Mahrez & Foden.
Looking at that I was surprised Bernardo got so many - maybe he gets a bit less than last season but really only Pep knows...
