Owners of Liverpool defenders are becoming increasingly concerned with their defensive potential this season.

After keeping 21 clean sheets last season, Jurgen Klopp’s men are yet to record one in 2019/20.

Liverpool have already conceded to Norwich at Anfield as well as against Southampton in Gameweek 2.

With many Fantasy managers still doubled-up at the back for the Reds, we have taken another look at the data to see what we can learn.

The aim is to discover whether or not Liverpool have been unfortunate not to keep a clean sheet yet or if there are serious issues at the back for them.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

How did Liverpool’s defence do in Gameweek 2?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 2

Really struggling with Spurs lineup. I want to bring to bring one in for the Newcastle match but can't figure out which. I've got Moura. Son seems likely to play but looks over-priced to me. Ericksen looks just bored of London, so I think he'll be back on the bench. Is this their best (most likely)front 6?

    Winks Ndombele
    Lamela Moura Son
    Kane

My guess (and it is a guess):

      Lloris
      KWP Alderweireld Sanchez Rose
      Ndombele Sissoko
      Son Eriksen Lamela
      Kane

Activated my wildcard a few days ago. And I got a questions I would love to your view on!

    A) Ceballos
    B) McGinn

Was set on A but after watching McGinn's performance vs Bournemouth I can't help but feel this guy is a hidden gem who should have been prjced at 6.5 - 7.5

    1) KDB + Rashford
    2) Mane + Pukki

Currently on 1 because of fixtures. Got 0.2 itb to handle potential rises if I regret this decision

    X) Kelly
    Y) Hanley

Will mainly be a benchwarmer. Worried about wether or not Kelly will be nailed when Sakho returns

    #) Zinchenko
    ¤) AWB

Currently on Zinchenko because I feel like City is more likely to get a CS, AWB has a higher ceiling though with the potetial to grab some BAPS as well

      A. Ceballos. On set pieces.

      1. KdB + Rashford. de Bruyne's expected goal involvement is top notch. Rashford on PK's.

    Got caught on last article...

I’ve seen a lot of hate on here for people taking hits or hitting the WC, I understand everyone has their own opinion but is it really that bad??

    1) You have the ability to catch price rises, which at this point in the game could be much more valuable to building a solid team for the months to come.

    2) For everyone saying we haven't had enough time to asses players in form etc...while I agree that we haven’t had much time, there are already certain players that are showing their strengths and weaknesses already so why not capitalize on their form or lose players who aren’t on form right away rather than watch them sit in our teams for weeks.

    3) The people who haven’t changed their teams are taking a risk that the others who get on the bandwagons early could simply leave them in the dust if these players keep performing with no way of getting them easily because they will be priced out. I get that those of us who have chosen to take hits or WC are also taking a risk but there is no way of knowing if that will be a risk or excellent decision. Any players could be injured at any time, injuries don’t have to wait until the international break...

Just saw a lot of hate and wanted to offer a bit of support for some of us WC crew, everyone will play the game differently and that’s what makes it so exciting. Goodluck lads!

Seems a lot of people were triggered by KDB doing well in a position he's hardly ever played in (a formation to counter Spurs attack) - if he's deeper and doesn't return vs Bournemouth he suddenly won't be so essential - imo and I could definitely be wrong (Pukki's fixtures aren't terrible but they aren't great either) and Mane beating Salah after Mo played 120 mins midweek

Same mate (GW8 hopefully) - and I also strongly considered planning a GW3 wildcard before the season. I could be wrong but I think even Ask Yourself still has his WC, and he was one of the first to mention it I think.

Yup all valid points but KDB has an easy out to Son or any other mid really, Pukki to any other 6.5m and Norwich seem keen to stick to their gameplay and attack. I’m not saying he will score 3 every week but he could very well keep pestering defenders all season. Mane and Salah finished pretty close to each other last season so I get that it’s a coin flip

I think the wildcard should be used for team restructuring. Basically, if a -16 can fix your team, you shouldn't wildcard.

Only teams without Sterling I think should be wildcarding. The rest should be able to manage, and honestly, you should've done more homework before the season and made a team that's capable of jumping on different bandwagons.

There are some obvious pre-season questions that feel answered that warrant a WC:

Didn't get KDB because fears of playing deeper/will he get assists?
Didn't get Martial because he might not play up front?
Didn't get Pukki because he might not make the step up?
Didn't get Ceballos because game time/be playing deep?
      Didn't get Soyuncu replace Maguire?
Didn't get AWB because question marks over replicating BAPS potential from last season?
Got Adams/Wesley/Perez/Barkley punts but regret it?
Got double Bournemouth assets assuming they replicate last season?
Got triple Liverpool defense and regret it?

If more than 3 or 4 answers to these questions warrant a change, then I think wildcarding is a no-brainer.

      1. Keep Calm and Play On
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 26 days ago

Exactly! Sometimes you just got some 50/50 decisions wrong and no point dwelling on them so instead of taking a -4 or -8 why not WC get some price rises and use the FT’s later on

Both are valid routes to take obviously, but I honestly don't think half of those 'didn't get' questions are still unanswered tbh

Agreed. I think it'll take more than a couple of gameweeks to be confident, but I've seen enough good and plenty bad in the people I passed on, and the punts I've taken to pull the trigger. Considering I'm top of both my mini-leagues, I may live to regret my WC though later down the line.

No - it is not THAT bad. It depends on the situation.

I have said before that if you are averaging around 60 points a GW (i.e. 120 points after 2 GWs) and have a team full of starters then you are probably okay. This is because the big scorers switched between the two GWs - GW1 was Man City and Liverpool defence + Sterling, Kane and Salah. GW2 was Pukki, KDB etc. So there are a spread of players who are getting the points, which suggests the player pool is still fairly wide.

If you are averaging a lot less than 60 points a GW then I think it might be time to WC because it means you probably don't have the spread of players who are going to perform.

I think it is a much harder decision to WC when you have 2 GWs where the same players score big. Because if you don't have those players you are already behind, but then if you get them and they flop you are screwed having lost your WC and if they do well you don't really catch up.

Is C.Wood likely to keep his place? Sold Ings for Pukki last week but toying with idea of getting him in again.

Rodriguez hasn't looked good imo, I think Wood is safe.

Not sure who else they have waiting to take his place but he had a good preseason so I think it’s just a matter of time before he gets a goal

Pope. Better Keeper by far and he has no threat of Alisson return. Eventually you will need a transfer for Adrian.

Liverpool Clean sheets don't look nearly as nailed at the moment.
