With no goals, assists, clean sheets or bonus points to his name after three Gameweeks of the 2019/20 campaign, Emerson Palmieri (£5.5m) is hardly staking a convincing claim to be in Fantasy managers’ squads going forward.

The Chelsea left-back has shown some encouraging signs in an attacking sense, however, while the Blues’ forthcoming fixture run is among the more appealing in the division.

Between now and the November international break, Frank Lampard’s side face just one of the ‘big six’: a Gameweek 6 clash with Liverpool the only cloud on the horizon.

The Blues thus sit top of our Season Ticker for ‘defence’ between Gameweeks 4 and 12, which will provide faint hope of a long-awaited first clean sheet of 2019/20 – even if Chelsea’s defence is currently doing anything but.

Only Norwich City have conceded more goals than Lampard’s troops (seven) so far, while the west London club are among seven teams yet to register a shut-out.

Clean sheets are also thin on the ground across the Premier League, though, with just three in Gameweek 3 and two in Gameweek 2.

Indeed, Everton are the only club to have kept more than one league shut-out this season.

With that in mind, perhaps we should be placing even more emphasis than we usually do on defenders who can compensate for a loss of clean sheet with a semi-regular attacking return.

Emerson’s attacking credentials will, therefore, be the primary focus of this Members’ piece.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 3

    RP
Here’s my lot as it stands. Feels boring playing it safe and holding strong on Martial but he could end up being a differential with everyone ditching him! And the benefit of 2FT for the GW5 with WC still I hand appeals.

    0.1itb 1FT
    Heaton
    VVD, Zinch, Digne, AWB
    Salah, Sterling (C), KDB
    Pukki, Jota, Greenwood
    (Button) (Dendo, Lunds, Martial)

    Good enough?

Ah ok so that is tough and I’d definitely be finding it hard to resist the WC

I think playing it now and using FT and hit or 2 in case of IB injuries could still work out better than regretting sitting on a team you don’t like

      Kane to Wickham = 7.2ITB

      Non-playing 4.5 mid for KDB = 2.0ITB

Play 442 and leave the 2.0ITB for more flexibility after the international break.

Might want to captain KDB as a punt to (possibly) make the -4 hit more worthwhile

Make a move or two you got 2 injured players. Lundy and Greenwood aren't reliable options this week either

Does anyone else ever settle 50/50 calls based on which player is playing in a televised game that you're able to watch? I'm not so much talking about major calls like captaincy, but decisions such as starting one of Greenwood or Dendoncker this week.

Yep, all the time. If City were on TV and Tottenham weren't, I would have taken the -4 for Kane to Aguero already. Still probably will, but it's in the back of my mind that I will be watching the NLD on Sunday and I would rather have something to cheer than to be sat there hoping Kane doesn't score.

Yes, playing Greenwood just on the basis the Utd game is on, I'll be able to get excited whenever the subs start warming up.

Manchester City smash it on Saturday 3pm kick offs at Etihad. Not televised but Kun and Raheem will smash it with hat tricks each.

    I've already taken a -4 this week:

    A. Take another hit for Martial > Mount
    B. Hold firm and hope Lundstram does something v Chelski

Do you think David Silva plays this week? Considering him for Martial for a -4. Think it will pay off if he starts.

    Wilcarding this week.

Does it look alright? Anything needs changing?

    Pope - Button
    Digne - Coleman - VVD - Zinchenko - Lundstram
    Salah - Sterling - KDB - McGinn - Mount
    Greenwood - Pukki - Barnes

Jumping on all kinds of bandwagons.....

Not having a premium forward does make your team a little bit inflexible and no way would I want double Everton

    Best option?

    A) Keep Martial on the bench, play Lundstrum vs Chelsea
    B) -4 to take Martial out for either James or Cantwell (own Pukki though). Lots of money ITB for a transfer over the break

      Martial to James
