FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 9

Fantasy Premier League managers have had longer than usual to prepare for the next Gameweek.

We are just emerging from the latest international break of the campaign but that does not mean our dilemmas are any simpler.

Managers are considering selling their Liverpool assets, Manchester City are perhaps as hard to predict as ever before and we are in need of some answers.

We have put together another panel of managers to help provide some for you this week…

Who’s on the panel this week?

Hindu Monkey – Longtime Scout poster with a brutal blog to boot, HM has delivered an excellent insight throughout his FPL career. His best finish in a fantastic 11-year history was an excellent 2932nd and rose to recent Twitter-fame for his founding of the Barnes Train™ movement.

Gregor – Part of the moderator team, Gregor has an enviable FPL history with three top 1k finishes and a further three top 10k finishes, with a best of 29th in the world in 2016/17.

G-Whizz – Also part of the moderator team, currently in his fifth FPL season, G-Whizz managed a personal best finish of 4,404 in 2018/19.

Neale Rigg – Esteemed deputy editor of Fantasy Football Scout and recent survivor of Hackgate. Despite that setback, Neale remains second in the FFS Mods and Cons league, sat at 47k worldwide, and potentially on course to record a fourth career top 10k finish.

Why do people consider fixtures for Citeh?
I have never been so sure on anything but when Citeh delivers, they deliver properly.
It seemed unanimous to stay away from Citeh captaincy. I love it because Kun KDB and Sterling become differentials.
Palace have a good defensive record but means nothing to Citeh.
If Citeh are on fire, nothing stops them and they are the only side in my Supabrew that get 4 goals nearly every week.

They do? The only thing people consider is 'roulette' and the fact that there are usually more number of players who are capable of scoring big so it's difficult to choose.

I only have KDB. Capping City not for me at the moment so one is enough.

Also made cash available for my squad ditching Kun.

Would not go anywhere near City defence either.

I do think you make a good point.

Defensively, Palace have impressed this season, but I also think you need to factor in the quality of opposition - Everton, Sheff Utd, Man Utd, Villa, Wolves, Norwich and West Ham have generally been pretty blunt going forward... and they conceded four at Spurs.

Also, last season Palace went into the game in reasonable defensive form and lost 3-1, so like you say, City could easily do the same again, especially if De Bruyne is back.

Palace have only conceded one at home this season irrespective of the opposition.

Pretty sure City are favourites to smash them but you can not rule out an utter frustrating day for City trying to break Palace down at Selhurst.

City are also an accident waiting to happen when being counter attacked with Fernandinho and Ota in a high line defence. Not sure Stones will change anything and Palace will sit deep, try frustrate, draw City out and look for the opportunity when City lose the ball with their whole team forward.

KDB is the player who will make the difference in attack, if he plays.

Pep may change tactics to try protect his defence a bit more.

          Yep, some good points.

They were lucky not to concede against us tho 🙂 and they've played against 10 men in most of those matches. I'm sure Everton, Villa and Wolves had players sent off.

A player having a "higher ceiling" or "higher points ceiling" than another player simply means that they get bigger hauls. Some people would say Sterling has a higher ceiling than KDB (just as an example) meaning Sterling in their opinion is a more explosive option than KDB, more likely to get a big double digit haul. KDB may be more consistent but Sterling has the higher ceiling. Meaning KDB may be expected to get 9,8,10,8 in 4 gw's whereas Sterling maybe more like 2, 21, 3, 17 for example. Hopefully this explanation makes some sense 😛

I'd say bring him in mate. I believe with Alisson back in the frame, the CS will increase and the double up will be back in contention. If you don't have him, it will be very hard to act on it "if" things do change. I can definitely see both sides as almost 3m can boost your squad nicely elsewhere. Very few have remained on the double Liverpool defence for obvious reasons. But jumping on at the right time could make a huge difference so keep one toe in the water

      At the moment I have:
BHA, Villa, Lei, Liv, Citeh, Shu, Nor, Ars, Cry (but he doesn't play), and Che. Maybe Wolves soon.
That's up to 10 or 11 unique teams. I never like taking a punt on too many players from the same team (even a good team) because if they have a bad week then it would drop my score quite a lot. GW8 is the perfect example - those that had 3 City players against Wolves suffered.

Hold Pukki or get Jimenez? Maybe even Haller. I already have Tammy and can't afford Wilson.
I really need to climb up the rankings and I fear that if Pukki has a good week then I'll be at a loss since Pukki is still 40% owned.

Wilson is ideal, but i also really like the look of Jiminez. I'd go for it.

Give pukki one more week. Bournemouth's defence isn't the best. That's what I'm doing, if pukki blanks against Bournemouth I'll be getting rid of him myself next week.

Jimenez has a nice home fixture though. Do you know if he played for Mexico over the break?

If you do get rid of pukki don't go for second best and bring in King because you can't afford Wilson, that would be the wrong move. I'd get jiminez instead if you can't get Wilson.

AC seems obvious to me unless you've any hunches.

Lundstram and Otamendi. Lundy could get something but a clean sheet against Arsenal is unlikely, even though they defend well. And I do think City will struggle to keep a clean sheet at Palace.
