Holly, the founder of FPL Community, has two top 10k finishes in five FPL seasons, is a regular guest on the FPL Show and recent addition to the Scoutcast line-up.

It’s fair to say, like most people, I haven’t had the best start to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season.

Those 94 points from Gameweek 1 have faded beyond a distant memory, to a dream and it’s been largely downhill since then.

Four red arrows ensued and I’ve been bouncing around the 1.5 million mark for a good few weeks now and, in the words of David Wardale, with one Wildcard wasted.

I’m in unchartered territory for this stage of the season and catching is not a position I’m used to. Last season I was camped in the top 100k for the entire 38 Gameweeks, with the large majority of them in the top 10k so I’m still unsure how I quite ended up here.

I guess this season has been truly unpredictable, just when we see a trend developing, it crumbles before our eyes.

Manchester City have proved to be a problematic source of investment this season

Manchester City were attacking kings, until they crumbled against Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Sergio Aguero (£12.2m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) and Callum Wilson (£8.0m) all looked unstoppable until Gameweek 8 rolled around and stopped them in their tracks.

Captaincy has failed us week in and week out, to the point where a dice roll would prove more effective in my case (it was Gameweek 1 when my captain last scored!)

I made what I thought would be some big moves last week, transferring out Teemu Pukki (£7.0m) and Mohammed Salah (£12.4m) for Wilson and Sadio Mané (£11.8m).

Although those moves left me with positive points, they didn’t exactly set the world alight the way I’d hoped and heading into future Gameweeks without Salah always fills me with nerves.

Gameweek 10 looks to be a tricky one to negotiate. I’m invested in five players from Burnley’s clash with Chelsea. Ruing the errors of my Gameweek 5 Wildcard, I also appear to still have two Norwich players in my squad including the injured Grant Hanley (£4.0m) who could easily have been a performing Diego Rico (4.2m) or Martin Kelly (£4.1m).

I’m holding the transfer this week hoping to get some flexibility for future Gameweeks

So, where to go from here? Well, I’m armed with one free transfer to ponder over, with my head telling me to hold and my heart urging me to hit that transfers tab and make yet more changes in an attempt to claw back my season. Patience is a virtue, but mine is wearing very thin right now. There’s absolutely nothing in the bank, so flexibility is at rock bottom right now.

Despite my front three providing absolutely nothing last weekend, I’m quite optimistic of their chances going into this Gameweek. The fixtures also look great for the midfield and I’m happy to play “King” John Lundstram (£4.6m) in defence, after regretfully benching his clean sheet last time out.

It’s the defence where options are most slim but one free transfer doesn’t provide much choice, so I’ll be holding for now and looking forward to the flexibility of two free transfers come next week. Hanley survives for now!

I’ve come to a point where I don’t expect my captain to deliver, but Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) is the chosen man this weekend with his home fixture and at least some midweek form to speak of.

Just after some advice please. Current team with 1ft & 0.1itb:

    Ryan
    VVD, Otamendi, Tomori. Lundstram
    Salah, Sterling (c), KDB (vc)
    Abraham, Wilson, Pukki

    Heaton, Rico, Cantwell, McGinn

    Which option do you like:
    (a) VVD out - Boly in or
    (b) Otamendi out - Boly in or
    (c) Salah out - Mane in or
    (d) any other options incl -4 hits that I haven't considered

    Thoughts & thanks.

Save..Otamendi is a liability in that City team. Be surprised if he starts the weekend. His decision making is shocking.

He is a player who needs to be looked after by the other CB.

        Now a total liability.

Certainly wouldn’t be having Ota on wildcard, rather not have to use imminent transfer on a defender. Go Boly instead
Wilson vs Watford, might as well keep then Jimi next week

I want to treble up on City attack, Aguero, KDB, Mahrez (could be a good differential) for the next two and I think doing this can cover for Salah and Mane.

GW10: I'm thinking to do Salah, Otamendi > KDB, Tomori
    GW11: Hold
GW12: Hold (or other changes in the team)
GW13: Bring Salah, Mane in by switching Aguero to cheaper forward and upgrading mid to Salah/Mane. Also swapping Mahrez for Salah/Mane. So for GW13, my premiums will be Salah, Mane, and KDB.

    Pope
    TAA, Otamendi, Lund
    Salah, Mahrez, Mount, Yarmo
    Aguero, Tammy, Wilson

    Button, Rico, Soy, Cantwell
    Thoughts?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

      I like it.
I’ve just brought Willems into my team.
He looks like quite an exciting to own...

          Tough one this week.
You’re defenders all have good fixtures, except Trent, but you’re not going to drop him.
It’s your call on that one...

If Sterling gets benched, only 1 of Soyuncu, Lundstram or Rico won't play. I think Soyuncu has the lowest ceiling tbf

Cannot wait to see an "original" out of the box team on this site.
Points are so close this season it means:
    Template sides
    Captaincy pick being too important.
    Inconsistency with the premium picks.
Somebody post a side they think is "different" and could garner some success.
Does not have to be your side.

My midfield looking different to most teams posted.

      Defence slightly different.

Front 3 looks same to most teams so I might consider changing it up in the next 2 GW's.

Patricio Alonso(for a while) Martial I love Ings must stay fit.
Different from a lot pf teams. Pretty good IMO.
Mane/KDB a good mix IMO. Sterling a danger.
Are you not having headaches with the bench? Get a playing keeper and BB

Differential teams pick players that have good fixtures but little form and hope that the fixtures give them opportunities to hit unexpected form.

Those teams are currently MUN, NEW, WAT, WHU

Haller, Yarm, Martial, Rashford, Joelinton, Lascelles, Pereyra, Doucoure.

Take your pick really. I'd punt on Rashford, Martial, Yarm and maybe Pereyra.

I agree with your statement. Hammers Troll me all the time. The only Newcastle players I would consider are Willems and Schar. Martial in full swing in the position he plays could be gold at his price. Doucoure always passes the eye test and I am tempted.

So the facts are I have no city players! Need to get at least KdB I think, how do I do it?

    Pope
    TAA Soy Lund
    Mane Salah Mount Madds
    Abraham Vardy Wilson

    Cantwell, Kelly, Pieters. 1 ITB

    A salah => kdb
    B salah, madds => kdb, dilva (-4)
    C Madds, Wilson => kdb, 6.0M striker (-4)

I am somehow tempted to keep Salah but not sure if C is worth doing... it would have to be with Maupay?

    1. FOO FIGHTER
      • 6 Years

      Salah to KDB is sideways.

Just do Maddi to Dilva and work your way from there?

      1. andres

KDB is someone I want for the next two but also long term. Hence the priority.

DSilva is definitely on the radar and could get both.

KDB would also be my (c)... no clear captain otherwise

Taking out Salah for a -4 could end in tears.

Salah is a beast at home.

I can understand you want KDB but you have both Mane and Salah which leads to no rotation or benching risks.

You can leave does two there for the rest of the season and if one blanks the other hauls.

I still believe Dilva is going to be the least prone to benchings for the EPL.

I considered all things when I brought him in. He has featured every GW. Yes his minutes are being managed but you take his points plus his price and do a comparison with the other City attacking assets.

4 double digit hauls so far. He is an absolute steal and if he is benched then not so hard to swallow as you have the cash invested in your nailed triple Pool.

KDB will be also less rotation risk than say sterling or Aguero. Him and DSilva are both excellent options short and long term.
That said I really don't want to sell neither salah nor mane.

KDB would be (c) for this GW also and potentially next, whereas pool assets not necessarily

considering CIty fixtures & salah's form, no way Salah to KDB is sideways.

    Made a mistake yesterday.

Moved Greenwood to Connolly for a hit, not realising that Connolly is likely to be dropped for Trossard very shortly... Went for it early because only had 0.1 ITB...

I've played fairly well so far but bit annoyed at myself for this one. Only my second hit of the season!

Hopefully Connolly can defy expectations and keep his place...

I wouldn't be too upset about this move. Possibly not ideal to have taken a hit, but even with Trossard back I think it's likely that Connolly has put himself in the frame for regular minutes. Not regular starts, but definitely genuine involvement in a way that Greenwood does not offer. I also think Trossard might be eased back in with some bench minutes first, so you might even get plenty out of Connolly in the 1-2 fixtures you really want him for. Then he's just an upgraded bench option long term that you've paid 4 points for. Chin up!
