Captain Poll

Manchester City players are expected to do battle for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy again this week.

You can now vote in the latest poll either below or in the sidebar of the website.

After dominating the debate for Saturday’s meeting with Aston Villa, Pep Guardiola’s men now get to host a Southampton side who conceded nine times to Leicester on Friday night.

As we explained in great detail in our Scout Notes of that match, that scoreline was heavily influenced by some of the worst defending the Premier League has ever seen.

If Ralph Hasenhüttl is unable to stop the rot, as we saw him fail to achieve even at half-time on Friday night, then Manchester City options could post some blistering scores in Gameweek 11.

Can Sterling escape the pitfalls of Pep Roulette this weekend?

The only issue, as ever, is picking the right one to captain, especially considering the usual rotation problems.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) appears to be the runaway favourite thus far after he scored 11 points against Aston Villa.

Prior to Gameweek 10, the England international had just one league goal between Gameweeks 4 and 9 but in his last five matches in all competitions for club and country he has rediscovered the golden touch.

Since England’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on October 11, Sterling has scored six times.

Whether or not Sterling suffers from Guardiola’s rotation roulette in Gameweek 11 probably remains up in the air though.

He has now started all three of Manchester City’s matches in all competitions since the last international break, registering 255 minutes from a possible 270 during that period.

Furthermore, alternatives in Sterling’s positions have had their fair share of rests in recent matches, which could seem them slot in.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) has not had any involvement in either of the last two Premier League matches, so could be fresh and ready to go, while Bernardo Silva (£7.9m) was given the night off for the Champions League.

De Bruyne should be considered a reliable source of points – especially against Southampton

By contrast, Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) feels like a more assured starting figure given how Guardiola has managed his minutes of late.

Since returning from injury in Gameweek 9, the Belgian has played 90 minutes just once (against Crystal Palace), registering 67 minutes against Atalanta and 75 against Aston Villa.

De Bruyne continues to offer relative consistency when it comes to attacking returns.

His assist against Aston Villa was his 12th involvement in a Manchester City league goal this season, from 11 appearances.

Those who watched the win at Crystal Palace know that he was unlucky not to come away with any attacking points either.

Not surprisingly, de Bruyne remains top of the league for key passes in 2019/20, so his chances of delivering against Southampton look good.

Aguero may still form part of the captaincy debate for Gameweek 11

Despite another no-show in Gameweek 10, Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) should probably remain a factor in the captaincy debate.

If he looks like starting against Southampton then a double-figure score is a distinct possibility.

Across his last four Premier League starts, Aguero has been particularly busy in the penalty box and showed a return to his ruthless streak against Atalanta.

Even Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) may be considered by some brave folk on the back of three attacking returns since Gameweek 7.

Those even braver managers looking past Manchester City’s appealing fixture might consider the Liverpool options in Gameweek 11.

A trip to Aston Villa could still prove fruitful to Jurgen Klopp’s men considering their record against the top-six since returning to the Premier League.

In three such matches this season, Dean Smith’s side have conceded three times on every occasion.

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and Sadio Mané (£11.8m) may then join the captaincy debate in some small way, although we do expect the latest poll to be overrun with Manchester City options.

Aubameyang never blanked for more than 3gws last season. Would be real hard luck if he does considering i got him just for his run of 4 blanks.

Anyways ill be selling him gw13 in a swap for Mane. Auba could explode given their fixtures afterwards but Mane's reliability makes him better option. Agree?

Sterling fear? Vardy has a difficult game against Palace.

Mane great fixtures now. You are basically wasting 2 FT but I can understand the Sterling "fear".

Probably if you have a plan for Salah and Mane soon.

    A Martial and 4.5 defender
    B Mount and 5.4 defender

Selling aguero (and probably CHO) after this week as part of a 2-3 transfer move. Best replacement(s)?
    A. Lacazette (with Martial/Silva)
    B. Connolly (with Sterling)
    C. Connolly (with Salah)
    D. Jimenez (with Son)
    E. Rashford (with Silva/Tielemans)

    Roberto Gazza
    Ota Lundstram Pereira Rico Boly
    Sterling KDB Madisson Mount Traoré
    Vardy Tammy Wilson

    2FT 2.1 ITB

Pressing issues are Ota Boly and Wilson.

Please suggest the transfers you would make to above team

I’m keeping but this weekend is last chance saloon for me. He’s simply to expensive to be giving me back cameos and I’m done guessing Pep roulette. I’ll captain him for the weekend but if he blanks he’s out Saturday night for me

Yeah that's a balanced view, but I wouldn't be surprised he hits form (and gets starts) against the big boys coming up. I remember the 2 back to back hatricks last season against Arsenal and Chelsea, they were season defining to me.

How vital is it to have three playing outfield subs at this stage of the season? I have Cantwell, Kelly (recently dropped) and Winston Reid (enabler - injures) with 0.3m in the bank. Thinking Kelly to Janmaat to make sure I have two playing subs?

2 is enough. Lund and Rico do the job for me.

Think it's a good idea. Prefer Rico over Janmaat if you don't have him already.

Sensible. I'm going for those three teams and Chelsea (as long as I can afford) and a few cheapies.

Thoughts on losing Sterling from Gw12?

    King/Sterling - Vardy/Son 2 FTs

I know it’s risky but I don’t think he’s the best captain for the foreseeable

    Gw12 Son/Abraham
    Gw13 Mane/Salah
    Gw14 Mane/Salah Son/Abraham
    Gw15 Mane/Salah Vardy/Abraham
    Gw16 Mane/Salah Son
    Gw17 Mane/Salah Vardy/Abraham

Looking for a defensive + attacking pairing to replace Boly (crocked) and Wilson (crap):

    A) TAA + Maupay/Ings
    B) Mendy/Maguire + Jimenez
    C) Something else

I voted Sterling, of course. But Man City will play Saints at home twice with a quick turnaround. There is something spooky about this kind of encounters. Last year City played Chelsea twice within two weeks, 6-0 in the league and 0-0 in the cup. They played Spurs three times in 11 days, the scores were 0-1, 4-3 and 1-0.
I'm in way comparing Saints with the London teams but in a weird way, if the midweek Cup game ended with a tight scoreline, I would be more confident about City flying high in the weekend.

I have 1.2ITB, Is it worth jumping on the Chilwell bandwagon before his price goes up as i have exact money to get him in now for a hit Swapping out Janmaat for him.

    Pope,
    TAA, Lund, Tomori
    Martial, Mane, Sterling, KDB
    Tammy, Vardy, Connolly

    Button, Rico, Janmaat, M.Longstaff

    A) Janmaat > Chilwell -4hit
    B) Sit & Hold for GW13 and swap in Matip if fit
    C) Spend elsewhere next week
    D) Crazy - GW14 - Tomori > Mendy

    1) Vardy
    2) Rashford

    A) Martial
    B) Tielemans
    C) James
    D) Barnes

After Norwich fixtures aren't appealing. Not so easy to find a transfer for the 8 attacker(first on bench).
