Manchester City’s unexpectedly narrow 2-1 win over Southampton came at a cost for a large chunk of the top 10,000 managers in Fantasy Premier League.

Between them, Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.2m) were handed the armband by almost 70% of the FPL bosses who were inside the top 10k at the point of the Gameweek 11 deadline.

The premium midfield pair duly blanked against the Saints, with Sterling picking up a booking to compound his owners’ misery.

Just under 6.5% of this elite group had more joy with a Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) captaincy, at least, while around one in four top 10k managers overlooked the City trio altogether.

The highest-owned player inside the top 10,000 is Jamie Vardy (£9.3m).

The Leicester City striker, who faces Crystal Palace on Sunday, featured in only 33.25% of top 10k squads ahead of the Gameweek 10 fixtures but his 20-point haul against Southampton has understandably increased his popularity.

Of course, a fair number of the new entrants inside the top 10,000 would have been helped there by owning Vardy in the first place.

The Foxes’ forward was by some distance the most-bought FPL asset of Gameweek 11, being transferred in by just over 675,000 managers.

De Bruyne remains in one in three top 10k squads, with Tammy Abraham (£7.8m) and John Lundstram (£4.7m) – both of whom delivered double-digit hauls on Saturday – also widely owned assets.

Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.4m) popularity continues to dwindle, with just over one in four top 10,000 managers hanging onto the Egyptian.

Indeed, Salah doesn’t feature in the top 10k Wildcard template, with Sadio Mane (£11.9m) proving a much more popular buy.

A two-man strike force of Vardy and Abraham is being widely favoured, with budget asset Aaron Connolly (£4.6m) the third-most-popular FPL forward among the elite managers who used their Wildcard this week.

There is predictably a lot of crossover between the template Wildcards inside the top 10k and outside of it, with Salah and Andrew Robertson (£6.9m) proving more popular in the chasing pack.

We have now hit the 50% mark for Wildcard usage in the top 10k.

One in four of the top 10,000 FPL managers have already used their Triple Captain chips, with the Free Hit and Bench Boost chips not as heavily relied on.

Chip usage inside the top 10k

Just under 33% of the top 10,000 have yet to use a single chip but over 25% have used at least two already.

2.2% of the top 10k have maxed out on their allotted chips already, leaving only their second Wildcard to be used.

    1FT, 1.5 ITB

Thoughts on the next move here..
    1. Salah -> Mane. ( A little sideways but Salah looks in trouble).
    2. Sterling-> Martial (frees up 5.2m). Can get TAA after.
    3. Other move(s).

    Pope.
    Robbo, A Smith, Lundstram, Janmaat.
    Mount, Sterling, KDB, Salah.
    Abraham, Vardy.
    Button, Cantwell, Soyuncu, Wickham.
1ft. 0.8m ITB. WC in hand so can take a gamble or 2.

Could be nice but need to decide if TAA in is a priority over a double up in midfield of Salah/ Mane.

Atm it is looking better to go TAA/Robbo + Mane.

Has anyone noticed certain positions are down to managers rather than individual players.
TAA and Robbo were so effective yesterday but can this be put down as a skill set?
There is no doubt good players are good players but I cannot help but think defenders can be made if they have the basics.
Marco Silva has no clue how to do it; hence Keane. Conte could do it hence Alonso. (Just examples)

I don't really agree with this mate for the most part... feel its more down to Robbo's work ethic to continuously improve and Trent's raw talent.

      1. Eze Really?
        • 12 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

Not taking anything away from Robbo and Trent. I just think the impact of a defender is more from a will to learn than a "Gazza" who was clearly special. I don't think I am doing a great job of explaining myself. I am sober too (Smile)

For sure.Same goes with attackers too. Manager has a big say in the development of players.
That's one of the drawbacks of our loan system really.

    3. Postman Ty
      • 11 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

Alonso couldn't do it, that's why Conte switched exclusively to three at the back. TAA's delivery isn't 'a basic' at all. Robbo's style can be taught more but the energy it takes to do it properly is an impressive skill. It generally comes down to positioning and decision making more than technical ability, is what I think you're getting at.

I agree,Most players follow the tactics from the coaching staffs both with the ball & off the ball( attacking & defensive phase) however, exceptional players step up at crucial moments of the game. Liverpool's win yesterday was purely tactical(Klopp& his coaching staffs effort) but it is something they practice in the training ground often, although you must be phenomenal to execute the instructions perfectly, especially in difficult moments of the game

    6. Holmes
      • 12 Years

I guess it varies from coach to coach. Some coach prefer to fit players in THEIR system irrespective of player's talent whereas some adjust their system to fit players in it.

I think this is easier to do with fullbacks than CBs. FBs do have luxury to cover their defensive flaws with attack and vice versa but CBs cant do much other than improve their defensive capabilities.

    Pope McGovern
    TAA Robbo Janmaat Rico Lund

The template with one semi-punt (Perez). 105.3M TV with 0.0M ITB. As tempted as I am to spend my one FT on a Pope replacement, no replacement beats his next three fixtures, so I'll hold. No convincing reason to sell Perez/Mount either, although I'm tempted by Tielemans who'll cost -4 or -8, so noooope

I'll keep rotating that backline based on fixtures. Janmaat starts GW12, Rico first sub, Lund second, Connolly third... As things stand. Could have changed (again) by Friday

He is going to be a great asset I'm sure.
Not sure whom to get though from him & Perez/James atm

Fixtures and nailedness: James. Caveat: bang average team
Fixtures and good team: Perez. Caveat: gets rested now and then, might not play if coach goes 4-2-3-1 vs Arsenal
Best player of the three: Trossard. Caveat: impact sub but expected to start soon, worst fixture run for an attacker in short, medium and long terms

Only Arsenal. I understand the idea around Boly's injury, but Wolves defend as a team. They are still a tight unit. They'll concede the customary lone goal though, which Trossard could be involved in 😀

The highest scoring one - the one and only - Lord Lundi 🙂

Joke aside there are many good fixtures with potential from both sides of the pitch.

I would like to be Pereyra for example cause I have it but if I have to take a punt - Doherty or Maguire brace 🙂

Finally a green arrow after 2 absolutely miserable GWs.
64 pts with another captain fail (KDB) and 3 left for today (Vardy Pereyra and Son) is not that bad I guess

    Silva to cheapie
    Wilson to Abraham
    Connolly to Jimenez

Worth it for -4pts? Gives cash for Otamendi to Robertson as well.

          Yes 😀
          I'm also thinking about
          Sterling CHO Otamendi >> Robbo Son Tielemans/Perez/james (-4) over next 2 gw's.

CHO & Otamendi stinking my team atm.
Having brilliant back to back gw tbh though.

man just sell Salah and get TAA and Vardy and someone else decent, owning both King and Wilson so far in the season....don't get it

Can only pick one player from one country, so cant have Vardy and Trent.

Had King from start, due to lack of options and fixtures decided to add Wilson on WC, worked fine in first game, not after that 😛

Annoying that klopp didn't mention Salah or the injury at all. Don't really wanna soak up too many price hits and need Mane in asap, just need to decide whether to do it for sterling or Salah. Salah has fixtures but doesn't look right
