At 5pm last Saturday, I was on the cusp of being hit with a dark red arrow.

Four of my five players had blanked and I was going into Sunday without highly-owned players such as Kevin de Bruyne (40%), Mohamed Salah (27%) or Sadio Mané (35%) which put me at risk of my overall rank plummeting further.

Thankfully my trust in Jamie Vardy’s (£9.6m) form paid off with his 24 points as captain, as well as an unexpected clean sheet for Kasper Schmeichel (£5.2m).

This was further boosted with Anthony Martial’s (£7.7m) double-digit haul on Sunday.

How I got on in Gameweek 12

It was just a shame that my Manchester City coverage of Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) and Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) failed me. Then again the duo have a dire record as visiting players at Anfield so I shouldn’t have expected much.

Liverpool’s late loss of a clean sheet cost me four points with my ownership of Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) but it probably was for the best as I ended up unpunished by anyone with a defensive double-up.

Previously, I had sold Salah and Mason Greenwood (£4.3m) for Vardy and Martial.

I felt that this made perfect sense as I was effectively obtaining two attacking players for the price of one.

I had numerous concerns last weekend with my squad and could have easily used a free transfer or taken a hit.

Andriy Yarmolenko (£6.0m) could have swiftly been switched out for Youri Tielemans (£6.6m) with my cash in the bank.

Mané has really caught my eye recently

But ultimately I wanted the in-form, Mané. I should have bought him weeks ago. Aguero has demonstrated that he is a rotation risk too often this season, despite scoring nine Premier League goals thus far. However, only one since Gameweek 6 weakens his appeal significantly.

An easy move for me would be to sell Todd Cantwell (£4.7m) and the Argentina international for Mané and Aaron Connolly (£4.7m) without taking a hit.

But I would still be left with Yarmolenko.

Whether I make one, two or three transfers during the international break, I almost certainly need to crowbar in Mané. I simply have no choice but to do so.

Another option could be to sell my two attacking Manchester City assets for Salah and Mané if I wanted to put all of my eggs in one title-race basket.

However, after now trailing Liverpool by nine points, Pep Guardiola will be more motivated than ever before to convert their decline with a winning spree, even if they are facing Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in their next five Premier League games.

Owning Jamie Vardy has had a big impact on my season in recent weeks

I managed to end Gameweek 12 with a third consecutive green arrow and my best overall rank since the last week of August.

I finally have some momentum on my side with the international break providing me with much needed time to plan ahead for the upcoming winter fixture rush.

The 62 points I picked in Gameweek 12 seems modest in comparison to a lot of seasoned FPL managers but I do feel content with the 193 points I’ve amassed over the last three rounds.

It wasn’t long ago that I was ranked as low as 2.7 million despite having a more than reasonable start – so I’m very happy with my recent progress.

I’ve also surprised myself by being more cautious with my transfers this season with only two hits taken to date – each resulting in a red arrow.

My aim now is to make incremental gains with safe transfers and hope that my armband picks can deliver on a more regular basis.

December will no doubt be filled with variables in FPL, as it always is, so I need to make the most of my newfound traction and hope that I can continue my run of green arrows.

      Last 4 seasons for Sterling

      minutes played / Goals
      16/17 : 2509 / 7 = 358
      17/18 : 2584 / 18 = 143
      18/19 : 2770 / 17 = 162
      19/20 : 970 / 7 = 138

      minutes played / Assists

      16/17 : 2509 / 14 = 179
      17/18 : 2584 / 17 = 152
      18/19 : 2770 / 15 = 184
      19/20 : 970 / 1 = 970

So Sterling is currently already on his best goals per minute ratio of the last 4 seasons but he's completely stopped getting assists. Until that changes, he feels a bit of a waste of 12m.

Sterling will haul again. Of course.

Personally I dropped him not because I didn’t think he’d get big scores again, but because he wasn’t looking like getting them consistently any time soon. And for that price he needs to. Even without considering all the high-returning players who are far cheaper.

Desperate I know but do we think McCarthy (Southampton keeper 4.3) is first choice long term now or just an immediate reaction to the 0-9 loss to drop Gunn who will probably come back in soon?

Don't have enough atm, unless I downgrade Cantwell to a 4.3 mid

Was considering Tielemans but sticking with Mount for now

        More of a goal threat
        Plays further forward
Has returned in 6 separate games as opposed to 4

        1. AndyCook

Pretty much as template as it gets. I’d look to add a differential or 2

    10. AndyCook

If you lose Salah or Mane you could get two of Martial/Maddison/Jiménez/Pulisic/Robertson for one of those and a cheap player which long term I think wins out. Captain problem with two Liverpool midfielders and high priced players are often only value if you captain them

Seems very sideways. I think Mount is comfortably the top scorer there by the end of the season injury permitting. I'd only do it if you're starting Traore at the moment. I'm considering him myself as a 5th mid but I don't trust him to start every week.

Guys any suggestions on what to do this team? 1 FT, 0.2 ITB

    Pope
    TAA Lundstrum Soyuncu Rico
    Mane Maddison KDB
    Vardy Firmino Abraham

    Subs: Button Mendy Mount Cantwell

Have Robertson, Martial, Pulisic Jiminez or a cheap striker on the watchlist, reckon I should make a switch or hold for another week?

I think it’s a hold this week and then you could downgrade firmino and mendy to get salah. Or firmino to Jimenez and get robbo for mendy. Also play mount over rico

Points chasing is a very popular past time in these parts.

I nearly got him myself last week and had it boiled down to Janmaat vs Aurier but i feel i have missed the boat now and hopefully my decision will pay off in the medium to long term.

Cheers. I can see B. Williams going back to the bench this coming gw and Young returning. Reece James could be interesting. Is Azpi losing his spot to James? Clark and Egan are a good shout.

Williams done well when given the chance and could have scored in that game so seen as this is a development squad at United and Young is only young by name now Brandon has every chance of keeping his place imo.

Azpi has be a great servant for Chelsea but his days are numbered i am afraid. One thing that i have noticed with him this season is that he has lost a yard or two of pace and that is a very important trait for a full back.Again Reece impressed when given the chance and had Zaha in his pocket for most of the game.Frank is also trying develop a team for the future at Chelsea so Reece has a great chance of being part of that now.

My preference would be madds mate.

Tiele has returned great the last 4 games but the four before not much at all.

Mads seems more consistent. Just a better bet.

No that’s helpful-I think my order of preference is

          Maddison
          Pulisic
          Mount

But was very taken with advice on Joe’s Meet the Manager by Tom Freeman ( FPLCruyff74) today to “be aggressive and have fun with 4th mid”. Worked well for him with 5 finishes in top 1K

I think probably is an ongoing issue which will continue unless given time off to recover properly- but not bad enough that Liverpool will not play him- but enough to put me off him as option as cannot see him being able to play all fixtures in busy upcoming schedule as will get taken off early to protect ankle

        Vardy Abraham greenwood.

I have 2ft. I was thinking of either.
Montoya sterling to Robertson son/dsilva. Or,
        Chilwell mcginn to Robertson hayden/donker.

Dunno if losing sterling is a good or bad idea.

A lot of ppl were talking about triple Chelsea attack but wondered about triple Leicester attack Tielemans, Maddison and Vardy, all 3 could be gold for at least next 5.. Patience with sterling has ran out..

    Pope
    Trent Robertson Lundstrum Mings Lascelles
    Maddison Tielemans Mount Salah Martial
    Jiminez Vardy Abraham

Honestly? Not sure yet. Could be Tman.

One of my front 8 may not start though of course and I get a power sub on!

This was my thought, your team value must be high, currently I’m in 104. I’d imagine you had mane/DeBruyne from GW1

              Thanks.

Not sure yet as no doubt a lot will change before then.

Could see moving one of my pool defenders by then.

Fixtures switch after the blank abyway.

Could be the way to go. Having Son as a differential is enticing though

              Do what feels right mate

              Son is an option

I’m personally more excited by puli. Looking dangerous. 6 starts this season has given us 5 goals and 3 assists.

            Yeah. Maybe.

            Though mount’s form is 3 and Puli’s is 9.5

    Thinking Connolly to Mousset?
2FT 1.3itb then bring in either Pulisic, Tiel and Maddison week after if Tierney fails. No GK doesn't bother me

    Hendo
    TAA Perreira Tierney Lund
    KDB Martial Mane
    Vardy Abraham Connolly
    (Button, Mount, Rico, CHO)

I’d play mount or Rico instead of Connolly and just use your spare CT to get a keeper, you may aswell

Then means getting rid of one next week, wanting Mousset in aswell as getting rid of CHO aswell. So a - 4 basically or 0.3 less itb when my GK likely gets max 7. So for a 3 point swing I don't see the worth tbh
