Over one in six Fantasy Premier League managers who were in the top 10k at the point of the Gameweek 18 deadline have now used their Free Hit chip.

Blanks for Liverpool and, to a lesser extent, West Ham United in the Gameweek just gone may well have prompted a surge in the chip’s popularity, with just over 500 Fantasy bosses in the top 10,000 deploying their Free Hit in Gameweek 18.

The move may not have been a successful one for many, as the average score for those using their Free Hit was less than it was for the Fantasy bosses who used no chip at all (42.94 versus 45.00 respectively).

Seven of the 15 players in the template 10k Free Hit squad blanked, with not one of the assets below registering a double-digit haul.

A little over 2% of the leading 10,000 managers used their first Wildcard this weekend, with a handful of maverick managers opting to use the Triple Captain or Bench Boost chips.

A sixth of the top 10k (as of Saturday’s deadline) have yet to use their first Wildcard, with Gameweek 20 the final call for that particular chip.

The managers within the top 10,000 who did use their first Wildcard in Gameweek 18 also had a so-so weekend, with the average score being 41.85.

Eleven of the ‘template’ Wildcard squad below blanked or didn’t play, with two of them – Diego Rico (£4.4m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m) – now suspended for Gameweek 19.

Looking at the most-owned players in the top 10,000 overall, there was no change in the ‘template’ squad from Gameweek 17 – although Sadio Mane‘s (£12.2m) ownership took a tumble from 85.8% to 58.59%.

Kevin De Bruyne‘s (£10.4m) popularity increased dramatically after his 19-point haul against Arsenal, with only Jamie Vardy (£10.1m) and John Lundstram (£5.2m) now owned by more managers than the Belgian within this elite group of FPL bosses.

There were widespread captaincy fails in the top 10k in Gameweek 18, with De Bruyne’s four points looking like a relatively good haul compared to the returns of Marcus Rashford (£9.1m) and especially Son.

The 8.74% who kept the armband on Vardy were rewarded with a goal and maximum bonus points, meanwhile.

For those of us who are chasing down the leading pack and who have kept most of our chips, there may be encouragement in the fact that over one in three of the top 10,000 FPL managers has used at least two of theirs.

Around 880 of these bosses have used at least three of their chips, while around 4.3% – including erstwhile number one Nick Tanner – have already maxed out and now only have the second Wildcard to come after Gameweek 20.

On the flip side, more than half of the top 10k have used just one chip, while around one in ten has reached the dizzying heights of the top 10,000 without the use of any.

Does it really matter if he does get a 1 match ban though? It's not like he's too much money on the bench. Those who ignored the risk of the ban and got him in last week saw immediate returns.

Depends on your plans and the rest of your team. Hindsight is always easier. Had he got his fifth yellow it would have been so different.

IMO there are plenty of players who will miss a game over Christmas. If he does then he gets a rest that will be due to many players anyway - and that's IF he gets that final yellow. I understand the desire to be cautious though.

Ironically may be bringing him in this week myself as my Son replacement. Other options aren't great. Would be gutted if he did get 5th YC though as would impact my plans to get Salah or Mane in.

I’m not certain he’s a 1st team player. My vision for an ancelotti team looks more like this:

      DCL Kean
      Rich Holgate/Gbamin Davies Walcott
      Digne Keane Mina Coleman
      Pickford

Not sure where Siggy comes in. Way too slow to be the wide man, which he showed vs arsenal and not at all mobile enough to do the B2B role of Davies. I’m happy to be proven wrong

      1. JustPark

Easy. Holgate instead of Keane, Siggy in mid with Davies.

            Maybe,

            Pickford
            Sidibe, Mina, Kean, Holgate, Digne
            Davies Siggy Gbamin
            DCL Rich/Kean

            Or 433 really.

I’d say Siggy could slot in for any of DCL, Kean, Holgate, Gbamin, Tom Davies and Theo

None of those 6 are actually all that great at football

Tom Davies was promising 3 seasons ago but hasn’t built on his potential

McManaman was saying at the weekend that Moise Kean already has a reputation as one of the worst trainers & an even worse timekeeper that Everton has ever seen - becoming clear why Juve let an alleged “wonderkid” go for so cheap

Siggy does have his limitations, and pace has never been his strength, AND Digne has somewhat stolen his set piece thunder

But he’s a matchwinnner & a quality, quality player - If Carlo gives him the arm around the shoulder treatment that is - and no guarntees of that at all

Tough to sell one of Rashford or Abraham - crazy even

But they’re both still unbelievably young players and as such will think nothing of going 3, 4, 5 games in a row without contributing

Holding long term probably the safer option

Jim is an unbelievable asset. Consistency itself - check how many times he returns 31 out of 56 so far - only Mo beats him from that point of view. Any team benefits from that.

Grealish is the best player in AV squad.
Mount playing in a better team, but he is out of form and not even close their main asset.

I have Grealish. Bought him for a hit few days ago, paid off instantly. Nice fixtures.

I know the stats suggest otherwise, but I'm strongly considering 3 myself just because he's so nailed and has form for exploding over the Christmas break. His ceiling's massive, and with Son out, he may start playing a bit further forward again.

Had also been debating 2, but would mean downgrading TAA to a 4.8 defender and there's not many I'd want that I don't have already.

4's not a bad shout though with City's fixtures over the next month or so looking good...although the inevitable rotation will probably mean Aguero will miss two of them at least.

Thanks for this. I think Kane's my favourite too. Fixtures are great.

I'm not keen enough on Liverpool's fixtures for a double attack.

Yeah, that's why I'm tempted by it. The fixtures over the next three could see him explode.

I'd been trying to find stats to compare Kane with and without Son on the pitch. In truth, it doesn't look like there's too much difference in terms of Kane's output, but the "without Son" sample size is a lot smaller. Similarly, none of these games were under Jose so again not the best data to use really:

          2017/18-2018/19 seasons:

          Kane without Son: 11 matches, 11 G 1 A (including 4 braces), 1.09 GA/match
          Kane with Son: 45 matches, 38 G 6 A (including 6 braces, 2 hat tricks), 0.98 GA/match

In truth, with how Kane's playing, it's a bit of a punt...and an expensive one at that. But with his pedigree, it's one with potential to pay off massively given the fixtures.

After re-watching highlights of City v Leicester, it's going to be hard to take the armband off of KDB. What a phenomenal player.

Are you worried by D.Silva returning?

        I am now...

Has anyone done any data analysis on KDB's stats with and without Silva?

David Silva played against Utd, and although City lost, I thought KDB was very good

Looking at a midfield of KdB Dilva Mo Mane from 21/2 - perhaps with added Maddison

Dilva is a really great option I think. He’s getting minutes too and is worth the occasional benching. With both him and KdB on board you’re looking at a high % of City GI and they’ll be scoring loads in my view.

Who are you differential players (swords) going forward? Im thinking of Digne and Ings (WC next week)

I’ve had Ings a few weeks but worry he is less and less a sword now. Nice while it lasted!

Have him too, Digne is the new guy, I think he can get back to best with nice fixtures, and only 5,7

      I bought Digne last night.
Grealish is a differential for me, at least in my ML 😀
But he won’t be in a few days probably xD

0.5m short of this WC gw20 team?

    Ryan -- Button
Taa Aurier Lundy -- Rico Kelly
Alli Kdb Salah Maddison -- Hayden
    Vardy Rashford Ings

    Some options:
    - Downgrade Rashford >> Tammy.....have alot of value tied up in rashford though. not sure about his long term prospectis but is tammy worth it? chelsea fixtures are mixed but they are a better more attacking team
    - Aurier >> Targett but with Lundy's tough fixtures...weakens the defence quite a bit
    - TAA + Kelly >> Digne + Otamendi....this would allow me to bench Lundy during their tough run
    - Maddison >> Grealish...thats a tough one as i like both
    - Taa + Maddison + Rashford >> Otamendi + Sterling + Pukki

Do you think Lampard keeps the same formation against Southampton?

Think he has to, although he did make some comments about setting that team up to specifically counter Spurs.

      He was just countering Spurs.

I don't think he's the kind of manager to leave 3 CBs against 2 strikers. He tends to favour a 1 v 1 situation to maximise his attack.

I used 2 transfers last night, Son and Taa out. Planning to loose also Tomori, Hendo and Tammy/Rash over next two weeks and get Otamendi, Guaita and Ings/Pukki.
