We at Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce that we’ve added yet another high-profile name to our all-star cast of contributors for the 2020/21 season.

And Fantasy Premier League managers don’t come much more illustrious than Fábio Borges, who currently sits atop our Career Hall of Fame.

You’ll need a pretty impressive season history to claim first place in those rankings and Fábio boasts an incredible track record of five successive finishes in the top 5,000 of FPL.

Two of those have been inside the top 1k, with his best-ever overall rank of 95th recorded in 2018/19.

Fábio has never finished outside the top 20,000 in six seasons of playing the game and, just to underscore his prowess, he was also the winner of Ragabolly’s inaugural Virtual FPL competition over the summer.

The Lisbon resident will be involved with Fantasy Football Scout in a Pro Pundit capacity and will be writing articles throughout the season.

Fábio follows site founder Mark Sutherns in joining our star-studded team of contributors, which includes some of the best FPL managers in the world.

The likes of Lateriser, Zophar and Tom Freeman, who have multiple top 1k finishes between them, have come aboard for another year and we are thrilled that they will be writing for us once again in 2020/21.

While there will be our usual offering of free content from these elite names, only Premium Members of Fantasy Football Scout will get unrestricted access to all of their analysis and team reveals.

Full-year subscriptions are available for the pre-season price of £17.50 until August 31, while rolling monthly Memberships can be purchased for £2.99.

Leicester City are in talks to sign Nicolás Tagliafico from Ajax. They see the full-back replacing Ben Chilwell, who is Chelsea-bound. (Source: @FabrizioRomano)

A FPL squad where all the outfield players are under 25. Not saying this is the squad to pick for FPL, just pointing out how much young talent there is and all playing for Top 8 teams. This squad doesn't include Saint-Maximin, Rashford or AWB either.

    Lloris
    TAA Tierney Chilwell*
    Foden Greenwood Pulisic Traore
    Jesus Martial Werner

    Hart Saka Vinagre Williams

    * Assuming Chilwell moves to Chelsea

yeah, hard for GKs. Which is why I limited it to outfield players only (per the first sentence). Henderson is around, but he isn't first choice anywhere.

Simon March's Meet the Manager is fascinating, especially the stuff on human psychology. Human beings are generally really bad at making decisions, there are so many flaws and pitfalls that we all fall into regularly. The quick decisions would have kept us alive while evolving in the wilderness, but these cognitive shortcuts do not suit the long-term thinking required by modern society, or FPL.

We are very quick to form judgements about people, without taking the time to research those judgements properly, or back them up with evidence. One small event from a recent match may stick in our minds, and form the basis of our opinion about the player, causing us to ignore all the other hundreds of events that make up the larger picture of that player.

Sterling's finishing ability is a good example. Now and again we see him miss an open goal, and it sticks in our minds, so he becomes a bad finisher in our minds. But we forget all the times he's made difficult finishes, and there have been plenty. Statistically, he isn't a bad finisher. He scores roughly what he should.

We are the biggest obstacles to our own success in this game.

If I do go for a City asset it will be Sterling. I reckon he will be their highest scoring asset this season, especially if he keeps up his current form.

Statistically, Sterling was an average finisher last season tbf (above average post-restart). Salah was below average.

Only because Salah had more shots than anyone?

Umm yeah, the objective of taking a shot is to score?

He did score, you expect him to get 50 goals to even out his conversion rate?

It is quite clear that if you have the highest shot percentage and still end up as one of the highest goalscores behind the likes of Auba and Vardy, then your cenversion rate will be lower.

            1 + 1 = 2

Okay, we've been here before, so I'm not going to get into this again 😆

The objective of a shot is to score. No one shoots to miss. If he shoots and misses, it's because he could not finish the chance. With an xG of 20.66, he scored 19. That's, by definition, a below-average finisher. I never said anything about 50, but if he was an above-average finisher, he would've scored around 23 with those numbers. Auba and Vardy outscored their xG comfortably.

Salah is a below average finisher. LOL, the mind boggles and *should have had 4 more goals*

I doubt there is any player which will replace him at this point. Going to have to get a Lewa type of player hhhmmm?

I probably shouldn't have given an example, or at least put it at the start.

Now the Sterling example is the prominent takeaway from the post and not the actual point about the flaw in our decision-making 😆

          • 10 Years
          6 years, 11 hours ago

No, I read the whole post. It makes sense. We sometimes try to grasp on to little insignificant things to make our 50-50 decisions easier. Sterling's open goal miss in the CL actually put a lot of people off here, but he actually passed the eye test for me from an FPL point of view.

I’m still pretty set on this...

    McCarthy (4.0)
    TAA / Justin / Vinagre / KWP (4.0)
Salah / Son / Auba / Pereira (Greenwood)
    Werner / Mitro (4.5)

It means I can bring Greenwood into 3-5-2 GW2 and use my free transfer to get KDB, should I feel like it, or just roll the FT.

    Any thoughts welcome...

Looks good, think in go for Armstrong or ASM and save 0.5 on Pereira though.

Also possibly then doing Auba and the cheap mid to Kdb and Foden if it looks like Foden will play much.

        Yeah, good options there, thanks.
I’m am quite happy to give Pereira a chance.
Easy enough to downgrade him to likes of the players you mentioned, but if he starts well then the teams with Soucek, ASM and the like, will find it harder to get him in.

Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon admits they've been monitoring Reims No1 Edouard Mendy.

Lollichon told Le Parisien: “He has reached maturity, with a fairly unusual path, and it is all the more meritorious.

“Edouard Mendy is today, for me, the best goalkeeper in the Championship of France.

“He is what I call proactive, very influential goalkeeper… Reims really did a great job with him.

Dumb question and wrong place to ask it BUT can one add a player to the watchlist via the mobile app? If so, how?

I’m planning to build a squad for 2 weeks only then wildcard. Mainly due to:
    - Arsenal fixture change
    - Wolves fixtures
    - United, Burnley, City
    - Ride the price rises of United and City
    - Chance to assess Chelsea

Not seeing many planning the same - I know the value of holding a wildcard but normally don’t manage past GW 8 or so anyway. It feels like the advantage of loading up and then dumping Arsenal is great, plus the inevitable price rises.

    What am I missing?

Surely there'll be a better fixture change down the line, really does seem a waste to plan a WC so early when it can be managed quite easily with careful planning.

I can’t imagine a better fixture change than United + City not having games, and then going into a good run?

From my experience your team/squad will let you know when it needs wc , planning a wc is a bad tactic imo.

Fair enough. Are you starting with United/City players? And Arsenal?

My ‘hold’ tactic would be to start with Greenwood and then make 2-3 transfers in GW 3 (including the standard Auba > KDB)

Greenwood and Aubameyang, yeah same idea here.

I'm holding WC as long as possible this season. I think there will be inevitable impacts on some GW's by Covid-related infections etc. Feel like there is alot of uncertainty this year.

I remember WBA back in the days conceding 3-4 in every Preseason game and then went on keeping 4-5 cleanies in their first 6-7 matches
