VDB at 7.0 in my team!

"Last week I spoke to Solskjær. It was about private things, but also about football — he said he knew exactly what my biggest strengths are and told me that he wants me to be in and around the 16 [metre] box at Manchester United too,’ said Van de Beek."

    Afternoon all!

    My first draft team for the season;

    McCarthy
    TAA Vinagre Justin
    Salah(c) Auba Son ASM Soucek
    Ings Werner

    4 Taylor 4 4.5

    0.5 ITB.

Will most probably bring in a United asset for gw2 and City for gw3.

Any comments / feedback are much appreciated!

    Cheers

I like this team a lot. only risk is your def imo. vinagre is a bit of a doubt (does wolves sign a wb). justin will play until pereira is back, so that will cost you a transfer later on. taylor has no fixture in gw1. so if vinagre or even taa does not play you will end up with 10 players in gw 1.

        Thanks for your feedback mate.

        Agree with all the above.

Have 0.5 ITB to upgrade a defender and can perhaps get some more guaranteed to play players.

        Cheers

Some alternatives to Ings and Son, but good solid picks. Personally I would think about TAA to Robbo and possibly upgrading a defender or saving another .5 but your call.

I am in no position to say this team is bad because it is exactly the same as mine except I've got Mitro for Ings and a therefore a bit more money to get other defenders (Vinagre is Cody in my team, and I've also got Egan, that's about it!)

How many active bench players are you planning to have ?
Need a 4.0. Defender or 4.5m striker to unlock fully playing bench.

Ryan Button can take care of GK spot

            Hmm

Where are you looking for your budget forwards? (6.0 and below)

Mitrovic, Adams and Rodrigo seem the current picks, but the likes of Batshuayi could get a transfer and become viable.

Or will you just skip them all and get on the Brewster and Davis budget express?

Rodriguez is now ahead of Barnes in the pecking order and is also 6m, though Wood is worth the .5 extra.

starting with a 4.5 alongside Ings and Werner. So much scope for a strong 5 man midfield.
Can afford to wait a few weeks to see how the budget forwards look to see if there's a decent option. If i was starting one it would be Mitrovic who has shown he can do it - faded end of last stint in PL as Fulham were just so poor at the back and he seemed to lose heart

In Chelsea’s pre season I read that his boots had chalk on with how wide he was playing, and Mourinho looks like he has real faith with alli and he’s not been messing about whisky away from football, has been training whilst on holiday with JWP.

Hasn't Ziyech only had one preseason game vs Brighton though? I know he typically sticks to the wing, but that's likely only to provide more space to whip in crosses or shots with his favoured left foot.

I do agree about Alli though, it seems Mourinho has given him a confidence boost and if he is used in a more advanced/central attacking role then he should see some decent returns that may bring him back to his form from 1-2 seasons ago.

Alli, more likely for score involvements playing in that second striker role... Ziyech playing too wide for my liking

He does sound the preferable option right now, but could be more prone to rotation given Spurs congested fixtures, in case that has an influence.

Yeah that's the main concern but even with less minutes should outscore Ziyech early on I feel

Looking at Alli but mainly because I will downgrade immediately to Greenwood and also prefer that he is a second striker role again. Ziyech is a bit of an unknown and I'd rather Werner or Havertz from Chelsea I think.

BREAKING: Lionel Messi, supported by his father and his lawyers, has decided to reverse his desire to leave Barcelona this summer.
The Argentine's new plan would be to bet on his continutity in the team but only for one more season, until June 2021, and then leave on a free [source: cuatro]

...Guess we stop planning for Messi now

              You’re right...

Although in Zizou’s defence, it was a retaliation to a personal offence as opposed to retiring/leaving because he put in a disasterclass when it mattered most.

People miss important penalties all the time, it happens. Ronaldo missed one in the CL final, but he doesn't get criticised.

Speaking of that match... John Terry didn’t retire after his miss and loss. He picked himself up and went and won it a few years later.

Messi just doesn’t have it in him. He can play outrageous football, but when things get tough he drops his head and doesn’t want to know.

As I pointed out, after the match you keep referring to Messi picked himself up and dragged a doomed Argentina through the qualifiers single-handedly. I don't know what more you want from the guy, to be honest.

The regular quarantine period in the UK for those coming into close contact with infected individuals is two weeks - which, if applied in this instance, would rule the 25-year-old out of the Newcastle game.

7.0 for a MUFC Box-to-box midfielder is certainly interesting. I was set on going for Greenwood as he looks great value for money but VdB will be on the radar now. Assume that means Pogba will be playing a deep playmaker role now.
