The Community Trials is the latest new initiative from Fantasy Football Scout that, alongside our Pro Pundits, the Scout Network and the Scout Academy, is part of our ongoing mission to support the wider community of creators and expand the scope of our own content.

We have offered the capability to submit community articles for some time and, of course, we already do read all these articles and keep an eye on the most interesting and engaging contributors for future opportunities.

Now, however, we’re taking that forward with a slightly more structured format in the form of the Community Trials, which will run for a set period  (initially the four weeks from now until October 2nd) with a clear target and reward at the end.

During the period of the trials, we will monitor everything submitted, run a weekly piece bringing attention to the section, provide a little feedback here and there, and ultimately reward the best and most interesting new writers with a paid commission to contribute to the main site in the following month.

We can’t promise this will change anyone’s life or that we will commit to your ‘history of FPL in 700 chapters’ masterwork, but it will give a few more content creators a few bylined pieces on the leading Fantasy Football channel and a step towards further opportunities with Scout or elsewhere.

We think this is a great opportunity to test out new ideas and angles, flex your creative muscles and get attention from our editorial teams. Even if you don’t get picked first time round, don’t worry, we’ll be running more trials throughout the season.

The first Community Trial is now officially open and runs through to October 4th, so start submitting using this link.

Anyone else been dead set on having Bruno but now leaning towards other united assets?

Money in the bank for Bruno but could also be for Rashford or Martial or Greenwood. We have no idea where we will be on the eve of GW2

Martial and Bruno and a defender for me. I was benching Martial and getting in Bruno, but reckon it’s easier the other way round and having Ings as the Martial placeholder.

Yeah greenwood for value. Then we can chance one man utd gameweek where we can see how they get on, and then move 2/3/4 players around depending on which of our starting premiums have flopped

Yup, if you asked me a week ago (up until I put some actual thought into my team) I'd have said Bruno 100% now I feel there's likely better value elsewhere and am going without

I’m actually not that interested in Bruno. Don’t expect him to keep up the output he had last season. Other Utd options are better imo

He doesn't have to match that output to still offer great value though

I have pencilled in Ings to Martial. No plans for Bruno atm.

I’m also considering the fact that Ole might still be a fraud and they’ll fall to pieces. 9/10 people seem to see United as 1999’s vintage when in fact they could just as easily be utter trash.

The fourth defender is (surprise, surprise) Vinagre at the moment. Could risk it and downgrade Vinagre to a 4.0 and up Dier to Doherty as I do also have a spare 0.5. I will have both Mitchell and Johnson then though, so 2no. 4.0 defenders...

Far from ideal I am afraid. Not sure on the PvA news, but it is unlikely that I go with both 4.0 defenders. Will have to find another way or just risk it with Dier and no Doherty. Thanks for he banter, Fulchester!

Doherty for me is a major risk as 6 mil. You have no idea how mourinho will use him. Mourinho teams are never heavy attack so expect just clean sheets. May as well go with dier or Davies and spend funds elsewhere. If he looks attacking then bring him in. He will not play the same way he was allowed at wolves

Can see him playing like Aurier did and he is arguably a better crosser of the ball than Aurier was. Kane, Son, Alli, all likely to be at the end of that cross. Doherty will get assists still, maybe his goal potential might be lessened

I’d be very surprised if he is allowed that far up the pitch. It’s not how mourinho plays. It’s part of the reason that aurier was not well supported by mourinho. Perhaps he may get forward against trash teams but expect him to sit back in most games. Mourinho also likes to defend leads so at 1 or 2 nil up he locks defence down. I’m not saying Doherty can’t be good in the future but to start with him when we know how mourinho sets up would be silly. Also mourinho is known in his second season for tightening defences

Do you think your personal sympathies towards certain players affect your decision making? I'm sometimes wondering how biased am I when picking my teams and how much I seem to ignore informations and stats telling me someone may not be a good pick. For example I always liked Alli and having him in my team I always wonder whether he's there because he is a good option or because of my preferences. Same with Antonio who's talent I am a big fan of. What players do you like/dislike the most?

Yes, of course. And I end up always going for the players I like simply because I want to enjoy playing FPL.

I'll take hits on rank if it means I play the game my way and get players I like.

They do unfortunately. This season I have vowed to take the heart away from the decision making and go with the brain as much as I can. For example, as much as Salah would be my go to usually since I am Liverpudlian, I have gone with Auba and no Salah instead. Who knows how long this will last though before bias takes over again...

Definitely. Actually did the opposite for a long time and deliberately didn't choose MUFC players because it was doubly disappointing on days when they were crap IRL and FPL, but now they are getting a bit better again...

I think spurs are an avoid personally. Mayb for first couple of games at best. They have an insane jam packed set of fixtures. Exhaustion will be a factor especially since they have games elsewhere in Europe. Key players like Kane will also not get a rest during the international matches in October

Ok getting close to a final draft and believe it or not it’s Salah-less...
I don’t like his fixtures apart from GW1 and get much better balance without him

    McCarthy, 4.0
    VVD, TAA, Digne, Doherty, Vinagre
    Auba, Bruno, ASM, Pereira, 4.5
    Mitro, Kane, Adams

I know it’s very biased towards defence but fixtures work well ans gives me a solid team without needing to WC and means I can mini WC every 2 weeks with a -4 hit.

    Thoughts?

I can’t get behind any team personally without Salah or aubameyang for the first game. If either one bangs they will be heavily captained you could find yourself behind 30 points or more. I’m not saying they are essential but due to some teams not playing the pool of players is less meaning larger numbers will have Salah and aubameyang. You’d be better to play Salah first game and transfer him to man utd player gameweek 2

Still a bit raw for many I think, but with Everton signing an actual midfield he has to come into consideration. Not a terrible price at all, but would I spend an extra 1m on him over someone like Che Adams at this stage? Not sure - might be a WC pick.

Little post for the afternoon crowd - Community article this morning was on a new Fantasy Championship game which is similar to FPL but with some new takes on Clean sheets and chips. If you follow football outside of the top division, I'd definitely recommend having a play with it.

Later today there will be an article looking at the FFS Template team - it's been a very popular HT in previous years so worth keeping an eye out for, got some great little statistics in it.

I think you have that a bit wrong there dier the most nailed player in defence. He won’t get you attacking returns but he’s cheaper than Doherty. We have no idea how mourinho will use him and he will not have free roam like at wolves

If Everton switch to a 4-3-2-1 (Christmas Tree) formation then Digne and Coleman could be FPL gold.

      Pickford
      Coleman Mina Keane Digne
      Allan Gbamin Gomes
      Rodriguez Richarlison
      DCL

Gbamin as the defensive midfielder. Allan and Gomes as the link players. Rodriguez the playmaker. Richarlison making the runs from deep. DCL the focal point. Digne and Coleman provide the width.

Fundamentally a 2-3-5 shape in attack with the full-backs very far forward.
