Jesus and Laporte ‘not fully fit’ for Man City’s Southampton trip

Gabriel Jesus (£9.2m) and Aymeric Laporte (£6.0m) have been left out of the Manchester City squad to face Southampton in Gameweek 14.

The club released an official statement with their Saturday team-sheet which explained the two players were “not fully fit” for the trip to St Mary’s Stadium.

“Sergio Aguero is amongst the substitutes for Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Southampton, but Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte are not fully fit and have been left out of the matchday squad.” – Manchester City press release

Sergio Aguero (£10.3m) is still only ready enough for a place on the bench so it looks to be either Raheem Sterling (£11.4m) and Ferran Torres (£6.9m) occupying the centre-forward role from the start this afternoon.

Bernardo Silva (£7.4m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) complete the front-four, with Riyad Mahrez (£8.4m) left on the bench for the second successive Premier League match.

John Stones (£4.8m) earns his place back, starting alongside Ruben Dias (£5.6m) at centre-back, with João Cancelo (£5.5m) starting for the fourth match in a row, Kyle Walker (£6.2m) at right-back.

Southampton are in their traditional 4-2-2-2 shape, Danny Ings (£ and Che Adams (£ leading the line with Theo Walcott (£ and Moussa Djenepo (£ providing the width.

Southampton XI: A McCarthy; Bertrand, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Walker-Peters; Djenepo, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Walcott; Ings, Adams.

Manchester City XI: Ederson; Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Walker; Rodrigo, Gündogan; Torres, De Bruyne, B Silva; Sterling.

    Early thoughts on sterling (c) next weekend. Difficult to overlook salah even if against old foe Allardyce park the bus and all.

      I would captain KDB against Newcastle but I think he’ll get rested with Everton 48 hours later. Also, Salah’s EO will be way way way over 100

      Sterling (c) is a bit of a risk at the moment especially with rotation the way it is at City, just be prepared for a cameo 1 point appearance at the end of the game (not everyone is super-sub Salah).

      Speaking of whom, I’d be super uncomfortable with a team without Salah. Also, Grealish isn’t guaranteed to be amongst the points when he’s playing further back as he has been lately.

        He is still one of top scoring mids in the gamethis year despite playing bad ( by his standards) all year. Scoring whilst playing bad is not a bad sign. Man will come good again for sure

    Instead of playing Mahrez and keeping Sterling up top, he starts the useless Torres up front. Pep's choices and tactics leaves a lot to be desired this season. Maybe he thinks he can win the CL with that defensive mindset, but they need much more going forward.

      Oep is difficult to predict at best of time but..

      Mahrez has been playing for city a while now and sterling is favoured much more. Pep sees more of them than we do. Mahrez not comparable with sterling period despite what he scores in a single game. Mahrez unfortunately must have flaws worse than sterling and Co's.

    Looking at removing KDB & DCL for the DGW, but I think I’m just going to hold them until GW17 & use 2 FT to lose them for Rashford & Adam’s, FH18, then might just wait until the DGW to decide on whether it’s worth hits for the BB.
