Five-time top 1k finisher on Double Gameweek players, captaincy and chip strategy

One of the world’s best FPL managers, Tom Freeman, reveals his team plans for Double Gameweek 24 and beyond.

Gameweek 23 has drawn to a close and it went pretty well for me, as I ended on a total of 76 points.

However, with the fixtures coming thick and fast, focus has already turned to the forthcoming doubles. We’ll find out more once this week’s FA Cup fifth-round ties are complete, but for now, we at least know who will play twice in Gameweeks 24 and 25.

With all of my chips still intact, it’s going to be pretty exciting, but I’m also fully aware that it’s a pivotal stage of the season which I need to get right.

So, in this my latest column, I’m going to note down some thoughts on the teams involved in this week’s Double Gameweek and also outline my plans moving forward.

For context, here is how I’m currently set up, with two free transfers:

So Antonio not on bench tonight for the FA cup means he is definately injured?

      Not quite.

It means he's not match fit.

I don't know. I'd say it's more likely he plays the league and was rested today, with fatigue as widely reported.

    1FT and 3.5itb
    Current team:

    Martinez
    Cancelo / Mee / Maguire / Cresswell
    Gundo / Salah / Grealish / Bruno
    DCL / Antonio

Bench: Barnes / Chilwell / Adams

Got exact cash to do Chillwell + Grealish > Tark and Sterling (-4)
Good move? Or is there something better?

Keeping in mind I’m wildcarding in 25 so not afraid to lose Grealish etc.

Great play by the ref . .could've stopped that, could've called the push by Martial . . .but let play go for both sides.

For those with BB, WC, FH left, would a different strategy be to BB this week if you have a strong bench (Martinez, Son, Coufal, KWP), then WC GW26 to maximise the strongest 11 for that week with the latest updated injury news etc, and then FH in GW 29 with all the blanks?

I am set up well for this GW with 6 DGW players already, 2FT still to use. Plus I have 2 Leeds and 2 Southampton players for DGW25. Then I can WC GW26 to get the Leeds players out and bring in the best 11 for the big double gameweek.

    So in summary:
    BB 24
    WC 26
    FH 29

    Thanks

That's what I'm leaning towards at the moment.

Bench Boost: Sanchez (AVL), Shaw (WBA), Coufal (SHU), Soucek (SHU)

I already have 6 DGWers for GW24 and will have 3 Leeds for GW25

GW24 Son, Dier, Wilson > Raphina, Shaw, Cavani for -4
      GW25 Coufal > Dallas

      Pope*
      Cancelo*, Mee*, Stones*
      Salah, Gundo*, Fernandes, Raphina
      Cavani, Bamford, DCL*

Not sure - I think that Diange guy could terrorise Lindelof & Maguire, he had the ball in the net twice v spurs & another cleared off the line

Periera should surely be back too (missed Spurs)

For his week I’d say it’s Cancelo, Dias, Rudiger, Coufal with Harry benched

Although 130 minutes for Coufal plus Ogbonna & Diop injuries are a spanner in the works, Coufal has went to CB for them... need to think on that now

    Pope
    Dias - Stones - Coufal
    Salah - Son - Bruno - Gundo - Soucek
    DCL - Antonio

    Martinez - Bamford - Dallas - Kilman

    I have 2 FTs.

Generally my plan for DGW25 is to do Soucek & DCL ➡ Raphinha & Kane for 2 FTs (have exact cash)

Just don't know what transfer to do this week, not to burn a FT - any ideas..?
Soucek ➡ 1-week punt for up to 8.7? (Mount? Hamez? Sb else..?)

That's actually the perfect template team you have there. So I think you'll have to burn a transfer, unless wanting to shift Stones to get Sterling, e.g. Stones + Salah -> Mee + Sterling

I think his owners need to rewatch the minutes leading up to his substitution and decide for themselves what to make of this “fatigue” business tbh

I agree. Reason most likely is that they sold Haller and didn't sign another striker. Let's see what he comes up with.

        Wholeheartedly agree.
He was chasing down a through ball, and visibly pulled up and then signalled to come off.
It took a couple of minutes before he was subbed, and was still mobile, but visibly in discomfort.
And that was after the clearly seen 'hamstring rub' during the Fulham corner.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't to be seen on the weekend either.

          • 14 Years

Yeah when I saw him grabbing the back of his leg defending the corner it was immediately looking dodgy... low & behold he then pulls out of a run & a minute later he’s subbed...

Hard to know because Moyes hasn’t confirmed it obviously, but it had hamstring written all over it

Agree. And mildly frustrating, as FUL/SHU should've been a great pair of fixtures, yet it looks like it could be a 2pt total.

Fixtures from 25>>> are as bad as they get!

hmm well you'd have to swap him for someone else in that case, unless Moyes says 100% (which I doubt he will, even if he was)

Fine line between injury and fatigue for a player like him, not worried we've all got bench headaches anyway

Last 30 seconds, box packed, gets it out wide, tries to skip past someone and loses it. Just moronic.

Looks like an absolute nightmare to play with - really selfish, takes far too long on the ball... reminds me of Lamela, and to a lesser extent Mahrez & Moura - players you’d hate to be in a team alongside

      Don't own Gundo or Sterling...

      Tarkowski (c) ?

I almost did Cresswell in GW18 and that would've worked...

Other options are Foden, Bruno & maybe DCL if I get him

If you don't want to switch it all about just play Dias, Cancelo and Foden.

You could punt on a captain on Foden in a double but good teams. Could be a masterstroke?!

I'm on that atm as haven't actually got Tarkowski in yet. Surely Tarkowski is safer than Foden?

Also, i don't really like captaining assets vs my team

To maximise GW29 blanks now, following the Burnley loss and Man Utd win, you need the following teams to win, which would leave 7 blanks.

Man City (vs Swansea), Chelsea (vs Barnsley), Everton (vs Spurs), Southampton (vs Wolves), Sheffield Utd (vs Bristol City).

      Confirmed GW29 fixtures are:

      Fulham vs Leeds
      West Ham v Arsenal

One of Brighton vs Newcastle and Burnley vs Leicester will also go ahead.

The more blanks, the less options to choose from.

I think the fewest fixtures with one decent attacking team is optimal.

However, with at least 3 fixtures you can pile in whilst people who hate hits look on with less than half a team.

Either way it's a differential to anyone with say 6 or 7 players involved and no FH.

Lol, you don't want to maximize blanks. You want blanks for highly owned teams. Else you'll end up with 9 blanks and 6 player FH team.

Except 3 games are confirmed so a full squad for free hitters.

Minimising games beyond this helps those able to navigate gw29.

Clearly the 5 or 7 attacking picks is one dimension, but nil nils would work too.

    10. It’s gonna Ben Mee
      • 10 Years

      Martinez
      Coufal Stones Dias
      Soucek Salah Bruno Gundo
      Antonio Bamford WILSON

      Bench: Meslier Son ROBBO Dier
      1 FT, 4.4m ITB

      A) Wilson > DCL
      B) Robbo > Mee and bench Wilson
      C) Robbo + Wilson > DCL + Mee for a hit and bench Coufal

Which 3 strikers are people planning to have for DGW26?

I’m thinking Kane, DCL, Watkins but that would mean needing to transfer out Bamford after GW25.
