Over 1.5 million Fantasy Premier League managers have handed Bruno Fernandes (£11.5m) the armband this afternoon, making him the most-captained player of Gameweek 24 – despite the lack of a ‘double’ for Manchester United.

‘Dead’ teams will of course account for some of that figure but, as a better gauge of active squads, Fernandes’ was the third-most-captained player of Double Gameweek 24 among the top 10k, with just under 10% of this select group making him their skipper.

The Portuguese playmaker, who was benched in the FA Cup in midweek, returns to United’s starting XI this afternoon for the trip to West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies have the division’s worst defence, having shipped 54 Premier League goals this season to date.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made two changes from the side that drew 3-3 with Everton, with Fred (£5.3m) and Anthony Martial (£8.7m) recalled.

The injured Paul Pogba (£7.6m) and the benched Mason Greenwood (£7.0m) drop out.

Sam Allardyce has also made a couple of alterations from his Gameweek 23 line-up.

On-loan Turkish midfielder Okay Yokuslu (£4.5m) gets his first start after joining the Baggies last month, with the talismanic Matheus Pereira (£5.5m) also recalled after a surprise benching last weekend.

Romain Sawyers (£4.7m) and Karlan Grant (£5.7m) make way.

Kick-off at the Hawthorns is at 14:00 GMT.

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Fred, McTominay, Fernandes, Rashford, Martial, Cavani.

West Brom XI: Johnstone, Peltier, Ajayi, Bartley, Townsend, Yokuslu, Snodgrass, Maitland-Niles, Gallagher, Pereira, Diagne.

Fair view point. I agree DGWs in general can be let downs, but they tend to really pay off when they fall for the right teams in a rich vein of form.

United only on 45 pts after 24 games and knocked out of group stage in UCL. With their squad, the amount of money they spend and the fact they’ve had barely any injuries that’s poor. Can’t see them getting anywhere under Ole

Imagine saying that when Liverpool have been lucky enough their front 3 never get in injured.

All squads have had injuries. All teams don't have fans at their stadiums.

Liverpool have done a bad job.

Why are Liverpool doing worse than Leicester then?

Pereira, Castagne, Fofana, Justin, Ndidi, Vardy etc have all been out for substantial amounts of time & they pulled your pants down this weekend.

Liverpool have had injuries but you're still in denial.

Not our fault that you couldn't be bothered to go into the season investing in a CB when everyone knows everyone other then VVD can't stay fit more more than 2 weeks.

I didn't say you lied. As soon as you brought a list of currently non injured players from leicster to somehow take away from the fact that liverpool are currently missing 5 players in the same position, you weakened your argument. Saying that losing the defensive cover you just signed doesn't matter because he hasn't played is a little more ridiculous than ignoring a defensive crisis you would do well to find a real comparison with. The really sad thing for you is I am happy to spot United the 5 points and the injuries. I still think we are better placed to beat you in the end. That should really worry you. Injuries dont last forever. Enjoy while you can

It's not about United fans v Liverpool.

The fact is in the last 3 seasons Liverpool have been incredibly lucky their star players upfront and in the spine of the team did not suffer injuries, until this season.

If Leicester were missing Fofana, Soyuncu, Evans and Ndidi at the same time they’d be blown out by every team. You can’t compare 1 injury in 4 seperate positions to 4 injuries in 1 position. Even with that Liverpool were better for 3/4 of the match. No excusing the last 15 though

Why deflecting from from ManU worried?
Difference is Liverpool have had lots of injuries. They actually have a plan and we know at their best they are one of the best teams in Europe, let alone the PL.
Granted, they totally lost form and confidence.

ManU on the other hand have no concept, GK an issue, CBs issues, FBs are one dimensional (let's not have some FPL points get in the way). They still can't break down teams that sit deep constantly etc.

As a neutral observer, it is very clear which team has bigger problems to solve.

So your telling me that when every single one of your senior centre backs is out injured that is no excuse and that you should accept the team is terrible? Its common sense not excuses. If Bruno, Rashford, Martial and Greenwood were all injured I can guarantee you Utd fans would use it as an excuse which I would fully agree with

              • 10 Years

Where did I say that "the team is terrible"? I didn't. You've imagined that . I stated that there are shortcomings ( true ie no back up centre backs). For this reason you can't use injuries as an excuse. Additionally you can't just assume that injuries to players at other clubs ( seems that you childishly frequently highlight Man U) would be used as an excuse for crap performances.
Read properly what people are saying in future , don't twist it to read what you want it to in order to justify a blinkered viewpoint.

Think for top 6 teams, it’s alright. But bringing in bottom half players for DGWs is not worth it.

We were captaining John O'Shea on here for Sunderland's DGW back in 2012 or when it was.

        Lesson learned.

Think I’ve managed a balanced WC squad

    Martinez Areola
    White Cancelo Ayling Holgate Davies
    Fernandez Gundo Grealish Raphina Salah
    Kane Bam DCL

Gives 11 doublers, strong bench for BB, and 8 for GW29

    Thoughts?

This United team needs a new defence and some better options up front. Martial, Maguire and Lindelol are just awful. Rashford seems to think he's prime Ronaldo and he's so far away from being that good it's laughable. I always look forward to the games and I'm quickly reminded (1.22 minutes in) why I shouldn't be, so inconsistent.
