Southampton welcome back a collection of key names just in time for their pair of Double Gameweek 27 fixtures.

After just one start since Gameweek 20, Kyle Walker-Peters (£4.7m) returns to the side at right-back, finally allowing Jan Bednarek (£4.9m) to return to his natural position at centre-back alongside Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m).

Ahead of their visit to Sheffield United, the Saints look more assured in the middle of the park too now that Ibrahima Diallo (£4.5m) returns for his first start since Gameweek 21.

He features alongside James Ward-Prowse (£5.9m) in the heart of midfield allowing Stuart Armstrong (£5.5m) to revert to his more natural role on the right flank.

Nathan Tella (£4.3m) staffs the left flank this afternoon which means Takumi Minamino‘s (£6.0m) return is actually in an out-of-position striker duty alongside Danny Ings (£8.4m).

The Liverpool loanee has netted in two of his last three Premier League starts and faces a Sheffield United defence short on key assets in Gameweek 27.

Meanwhile, Fraser Forster (£4.0m) retains his starting berth after snatching the goalkeeper jersey away from Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) against Everton.

That patched-up Blades defence sees Enda Stevens (£5.0m), Kean Bryan (£3.9m) and Ethan Ampadu (£4.3m) occupy the three centre-back roles with Jayden Bogle (£4.3m) and George Baldock (£4.9m) in the left and right wing-back positions respectively.

Rhian Brewster (£4.4m) starts up-front alongside David McGoldrick (£5.2m).

Double Gameweek 27 Line-ups

Sheffield United XI (3-5-2): Ramsdale; Stevens, K Bryan, Ampadu; Bogle, Fleck, Norwood, Lundstram, Baldock; McGoldrick, Brewster.

Southampton XI (4-4-2): Forster; Bertrand, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Walker-Peters; Tella, Diallo, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Minamino, Ings.

Double Gameweek 27 so far…

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.3m) increased the Fantasy Premier League attention on him ahead of Blank Gameweek 29 by opening the scoring at Burnley this afternoon.

After scoring five goals across his three starts prior to today, we examined his long-term credentials in the build-up to Double Gameweek 27.

And Aubameyang duly delivered on that with his sixth league goal across his last four starts.

Chris Wood (£6.2m) ensured Arsenal’s wait for a first clean sheet since Gameweek 21 stretched to a sixth-straight game.

And Burnley probably could have done further damage were it not for four saves from Bernd Leno (£5.0m) that helped him secure two bonus.

Meanwhile, Charlie Taylor (£4.4m) was forced off midway through the second half to be replaced by Erik Pieters (£4.3m) – who was at the heart of some VAR drama for handballs and penalties.

Provisional bonus

  • 3 – Chris Wood
  • 2 – Bernd Leno,
  • 1 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Willian

Watching Pickfords last few saves, surely the best Shot stopper in the league?

Seems to have cut down on the errors as well.

Yes. He saves quite a few and yes some are excellent. But 10 minutes later he fluffs a back pass, drops a corner / cross or inexplicably fecks up and they concede. He just isn’t consistent enough. Good shot stopper, not the the best shot stopper. Average keeper , no where near world class as an international goal keepers land because there’s nothing better. should be. He only plays for En

That's a bit of a jump, Ancelotti brought in another keeper so he can't have been that confident in him but Olsen hasn't looked great either.

All I said was that (imo of course), he's the best Shot stopper in the league. He's not on the top 5 overall keepers but he has massively improved as the season has progressed.

I personally think it's very hard to say someone is the best shot-stopper - these guys are all absolutely amazing at saving shots

Perhaps, as an ex-keeper, I just enjoy watching some of his saves.

He seems to be one of those players people love to hate though. All I need to say now is that I think Harry Maguire and Declan are good players and I'll probably get banned lol.

                    This

It’s also an incredibly subjective & sensationalist hypothesis that isn’t ever really going to be objectively quantifiable into the bargain

It’s really today-code for “I saw Pickford make a few saves the other day there” but needs to be dressed up in an exaggerated absolute to fit into the easily digestible soundbites that get perpetuated & lapped up, not just on here, but on Skysports with Jamie Redknapp spouting similarly exaggerated nonsense, or Joe Cole on BT Sport etc etc repeated ad infinium

Fair comment. His saves were more than pretty though. He does throw out some absolute world class stops. (Again, mixed in with some errors!)

Rubbish, we lacked quality, all day long. We then rely on a pen thats not given.

Dont get me wrong its a pen all day long as its an unnatural positions denying a goal scoring opp.

That said, there was no momentum in the second half till the 80th minute. Any experienced manager sends the team back to get a result, not feeling sorry for themselves for 30 mins. The manager is far too inexperienced to be at Arsenal

wenger began wearing rose tinted spectacles and for some reason season after season would not work on the back line. He was an exceptional manager of his time, but that is it, of his time.

Agree he was of his time. It does amaze me that fans don’t remember or recognise how attacking Wenger’s football was. He left his defenders on islands hoping they’d win one-on-ones, and that was exposed against better opposition.

Always wondered what it would be like if football introduced a bonus point for winning a game by say 3 goals or more.
Might make teams open up a bit rather than playing anti-football (I’m looking at you Woy).
            Haven’t rugby got something similar?

Do we want a basketball style game though?

                Do we not?
If every team played like Leeds it would be carnage... and god forbid, entertaining.
Isn’t that what it’s all about?

If every team played like Leeds then what would make Leeds special? There’s football fans that admire different tactics and approaches and get enjoyment from that.

Granted, no-one wants every team doing Mourinho tactics but teams should play to their strengths.

The lack of quality recently has been due to too much football and lack of fans. You can’t play end to end and have the same levels of quality if you’re playing every 3 days.

I don’t think every team would change their playing style.
And I’m not saying it would be a good idea... just a thought really.
I think it would be interesting to see what teams like spurs/Jose would do when they get 2-0 up.

Shut up shop like normal? Or go for the 3rd allowing the other team to get chances to get back into the game and maybe get back to 2-1.

I’m not against the idea, but it might cause teams not try and win games when 2-0 down. They can continue to sit back and counter attack if the other team is pushing for 3 goals.

im sure stand to be corrected, we used this in a pre-season friendly in the emirates cup as Wenger wanted it introduced and either lost it on goal difference or won in embarrassingly as we'd scored a load of gaols in one game then lost the others, but bonus got us the win
