Why Kimbempe? Is he a better chance of scoring or assisting than the other French defenders? I had him but ditched him as his stats didn't look too good.

I don't know. I have Varane as he seems more nailed at the moment - played all 3 group matches.

Easily B. No faith in Spain forwards being able to score, even after their last match. They got a lucky confidence builder with that OG and then managed to get a few, but neither Moreno or Morata on the score sheet.

In any other match, I'd yes. But feel like Bel vs Por got goals in it and Meunier could be involved in those.

In theory, big at the back should work.

7 clubs have had a 33.33% or higher CS rate in the PL in more than one season across the last 5 years:

    Man City (4), Chelsea (4), Man Utd (4), Liverpool (3), Spurs (3), Arsenal (2), Everton (2).

Those are trusted clubs. However, there have been some clubs who have hit 33.33% CS or more in the PL in one of the last 5 seasons:

    Southampton (16/17), Burnley (19/20), Leicester (19/20), Wolves (19/20), Sheff Utd (19/20), Aston Villa (20/21).

19/20 was crazy good for cheap defences to score points and was an anomaly. The things that generally hurt big at the back:

    (1) The cheap player who breaks out for one season at a smaller club because they are OOP or a young talent (2018/19: AWB, 2019/20: Lundstram, 2020/21: Dallas)
    (2) A cheap PL team that breaks out and keeps a large number of CS (see above) so you can double up on them
    (3) Injuries to key players at the 'big' clubs (2020/21: VVD, 2019/20: Laporte)

Typically at least one of these happens every season, which means big at the back loses its viability.

Seen you post this a month or so ago. It's riddled with assumptions/generalisations though. Different players and prices every year. And different things happen. If you have 3 Trent-equivalents available at 6.0, the big at the back is suddenly much more viable, let alone if none of you 3 things happens. It ultimately depends on the individual components in your team and the points they (are expected to) get. Your post neglects to consider degrees of difference as well, like what if a Dalla 'breaks out' but ultimately scores 20-30 points less or cost 0.5 more. You can't really generalise like this without a lot more data and better questions imo

      1. diesel001

It isn't saying pick big at the back or don't. It isn't even saying pick or don't pick a specific player. It isn't about who is the best value.

The posts are about the macro environment. The 'macro' being the clubs in the PL. The 'micro' being the individual players. The 'macro' is that for CS points Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd are kings. The 'micro' is that OOP, the injuries etc. are factors that can lead to variation in returns.

It is like the stock market. When the economy is doing well / recovering the stock market goes up and you can pick any stock and probably make money (it is driven by the 'macro'). But the returns for each stock will vary considerably and so while one stock may make 10%, another might be 100% (i.e., depends on the 'micro').

I think the 'macro' is a good starting point for the analysis and then go down deeper towards the 'micro'.

TAA, Robbo, Digne, Shaw, Cresswell looks sick

None of the City & Chelsea rotation pain, loads of set pieces & attacking threat, and particularly the 5.5’s look about 1.5 underpriced between them
