The 2014/15 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) champion, Simon March, discusses his Gameweek 1 draft in our latest team reveal video on YouTube.

Simon chats to Joe about his 3-4-3 set-up for the opening weekend, including his slightly leftfield pick of a £5.0m goalkeeper when so many of us are plumping for a £4.5m option between the sticks.

Burnley’s defence is represented, while the former FPL winner has eschewed attacking full-back options in the form of Lucas Digne (£5.5m) and Luke Shaw (£5.5m) and opted for the steady drip-feed of points from Ruben Dias (£6.0m).

Leicester City’s fit-again Harvey Barnes (£7.0m) – who scored on Wednesday – also makes an appearance alongside some more ‘template’ midfielders.

Up top, Simon discusses his thoughts on Danny Ings‘ (£8.0m) move to Aston Villa and what it might mean for his initial Ollie Watkins (£7.5m) pick.

Ivan Toney (£6.5m) also makes an appearance in the three-man frontline.

You can watch Simon and Joe in the embedded video below, while you can see all previous YouTube team reveals via this link.

And if you missed it, you can read Simon’s first Pro Pundits column of the season below:

You’ll be able to read Simon’s articles throughout the season with a Fantasy Football Scout subscription, which also gives you access to our new Premium Members Area.

Thoughts on this 4-4-2 with Salah, Bruno and Son?

    Bachmann
    TAA Shaw Digne Veltman
    Son Bruno Salah Raphinha
    Toney Antonio

    Foster White Brownhill Obafemi

I like it, about as good of a 4-4-2 you can get with S,B,S in your side. I considered a near identical team but I am thinking of going with a 3-4-3 variation but that's very strong. Bachmann over Sanchez to avoid a double up with Veltman?

Yeah thats the main reason. Think Veltman is the standout 4.5 defender, so would rather spread the risk and think Bachmann is a fine option and has higher potential for save points

Not much difference in our teams. You've got Son & Veltman where I have Mahrez & Sarr.

Yeah, can’t fault it. Quite similar to my current draft and the differences aren’t ones I feel strongly about - eg Coufal over Digne, DCL over Antonio

Is anyone looking to start with Jiminez, or more likely to start with other 7.5 options, and sit back and see how he gets through the first 3 matches, then look to possibly bring him into their sides in gw4 against Watford?

Read it. Replaced Ollie with him. Not only a nice differential, but looking at the first 2 fixtures, Foxes are in disarray at the back and Spurs are still trying to bring new CBs in.

    Thoughts on this 352?

    Sanchez
    TAA Shaw Digne
    Salah Bruno Mahrez Raphinha Sarr
    Antonio Toney

    (Foster White Obafemi 4.0)

Mahrez & Sarr could be Grealish & Barnes/Buendia

This is nice, I like it a lot

Would watch for a move for Willock back to Newcastle. Think he would be a better option than Sarr

Could also consider Buendia and Harrison over Raphinha and Sarr

        Cheers for the feedback.

Willock is on my radar if his transfer goes through on time but I do like the look of Sarr also Watford have some decent fixtures and he could be on pens too.

That's a good option too just not sure if I can ignore Raphinha.

I like it, wether you go for Salah or Bruno (or both) is a matter of personal preference. Don’t fancy Brighton for those first 4 fixtures? I personally rate them little higher then Watford for the first 4. Could do Sanchez in goal and switch to Bachman for week 5&6 ?

It could have been a shrewd move if they didn't have the injuries at the back

Don't think so. Leicester a good goal-scoring team. Seems pointless to block the potential to buy more than one of their outfield players, unless an early WC is planned.

        1. @persecuted_by_mods
          5 years, 1 month ago

Yeah true, 1 keeper though would have been a shrewd move imo if Evans etc were fit

When you could have a 2x keeper+backup combos for 0.5 less? It seems like throwing money and potential transfers away to me.

            1. @persecuted_by_mods
              5 years, 1 month ago

Don't expect Schmeichel to not play (think he's played all 38 *3 seasons in a row) and if all def fit I think he would be a good option

                    5 years, 1 month ago

Yeah. That's part of the criticism of the tactic.
Could be a hit or have not keeper for a week or more. Could be injured in a warm-up. Then you have to use or buy a transfer. I agree, thanks

                    1. @persecuted_by_mods
                      5 years, 1 month ago

Yeah I get that, the criticism of not being able to have Leicester attackers I accept. Points Schmeichel could get over other keepers (if all def is fit) Vs minute risk of needing to use one transfer isn't that much of a criticism

                        • 10 Years

Thanks for accepting. I don't accept your non-acceptance of the value of a backup keeper. Some seasons you don't need one. I've had a season I've needed to make 3 GK transfers due to injuries. A free backup just makes sense, especially when it's hard to predict that Schmeichel will ever get more points than Bachmann or Sanchez, let alone be worth 0.5 more (and therefore loss of the use of that 0.5 elsewhere across the season).

The guy's a winner but I really don't see the sense in that decision. In addition to the Deulofail observation, is nobody spooked by Newcastle's goalkeeper issue? Covid has wiped them ALL out.

              1. @persecuted_by_mods
                5 years, 1 month ago

Yeah for sure, lots of people on here are treating this season as a non covid season when it's still around and will have an impact, a decent bench is needed, not picking C and VC from the same team etc will still be things I do

Don’t think you need two benched 4.5 defs. Get a 4.0 and either save so you don’t have to worry about about price changes, Get a 5.0 Gk or upgrade Foster so you’ve two playing keepers.

Top 300k is the new top 10k. About 200k people are ready to copy Lateriser and Andy teams, lots of other "pro pundits" with high followers too.

Last season Lateriser didnt do well, imagine he gets top 1k this year again, his 150 followers should do well too

Doesn't concern me what other people do, I don't get the people who just copy teams but I'm aiming to do better than everyone else so I don't care what they do

Good for them, I can't imagine something so ridiculous than to copy someone else in a free game. Whilst I am bored of FPL to some extent, the moments I remember most are ones where I picked out a gem, a decision I made not someone else. Maybe it's a reflection of today's society and social media, there are people who are too scared to think for themselves and take the easy way.

This. My most memorable moments were when I got Mahrez and Michu in gw1. I'm pretty sure none of the experts recommended those back in the days

I personally think the whole 'expert team reveal' thing is a load of nonsense and compromising the game.

Let's Talk FPL guy did not respond well to this criticism around team copying, because it's how he makes his money, but ultimately they are all compromising the game they claim to love.

Having finished 10k, 32k, 12k, 75k.... and then 306k last season... yes totally!

No I'm kidding. I had a crapper last year so 300k is a bit of a reach 😆

I do like Cancelo as an early season differential but Raph or Buen are probably easier options to starts with in terms of structure. Of them Raphinha just, despite the tougher fixtures.

Spending a FT on a 4.5 defender who won't be in your XI most weeks? Why not set the team up properly now when you have unlimited FTs? 😛

Ings scored 4 more than his XG and Watkins scored 2 less than his last season - Ings could be a great shout at 8m - unlikely to start GW1 or not?

    I have 0.5m ITB.
    A) Keep Watkins and 0.5
    B) Watkings to Ings
    C) Watkins to DCL.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated
