Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are faced with a tough captaincy decision for Gameweek 2.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) go head-to-head again after huge opening-day hauls, but there are other FPL assets whose cases deserve examining too, including Sadio Mané (£12.0m), Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m).

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 2 Captain Poll, before then analysing the leading candidates, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Unsurprisingly, Salah has dominated the vote so far.

The Egyptian midfielder, who produced a goal and two assists last time out, has gained 63.4% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Only one other player has garnered more than 10% of votes at this stage, with Manchester United midfielder Fernandes currently in second place, backed by 19.79%.

Mahrez occupies third place with 2.88% of votes, with the top-five list completed by Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) and Mane, with 2.3% and 1.54% respectively.

MOHAMED SALAH AND SADIO MANE

Ah, what a week finally made it back to Europe. (Was in Mexico for the last two weeks honeymooning). Barcelona for 10 days then back to England.

Enough of my preamble. GTG or would you change my 11 with the bench?

    Sanchez
    TAA Tsim Dunk
    Salah Bruno Benrahma, Buendia
    Antonio Ings Toney

    Schmeichel, Amartey, Rudiger, Gray

Tbh, any of my bench could play but not sure if I'm best to split my defence Leicester/Brighton instead of doubling up.

My guess at the Man City team:

    Ederson
    Walker Stones Dias Cancelo
    KDB Rodri Gundogan
    Mahrez Sterling Grealish

Subs: Steffen (for Ederson), Zinchenko (for Walker / Cancelo), Laporte (for Stones / Dias), Fernandinho (for Rodri), Bernardo (for KDB), Jesus (for Sterling), Torres (for Mahrez / Grealish)

Not in squad: Mendy (had a shocker vs Spurs), Ake (had a shocker vs Spurs), Foden (injured)

Yeah, that's probably their best team. I can see Sterling and Grealish switching positions a lot.

      Maybe Zinchenko in for Cancelo...

Raphinha and Bamford won't be quiet for too long esp if Phillips starts.

Grealish will want to impress the home crowd and could be the go to at Citeh.

Mane may surpass Salah this week given his numbers v NOR.

A Leeds cs might bring Meslier into gk contention for some.

Don't usually post on here but frequent and long-time reader.
I made the rash decision to play my wildcard early and now worried my defence will be too weak once Robertson is back, anyone mind sharing their thoughts?

    De-Gea
    Matip, Tsimikas, Stones
    Salah, Bruno, Son, Pogba
    Antonio, DCL, Dennis

    Subs: Alonso, Gilmore, Livramento

Ditch Alonso, too expensive to be on the bench and big rotation risk.

De Gea also risk once Hendo recovers.

personally i'd say you'd blown your wildcard (although don't know what team you had before).

Tsimikas has 2 games max left. Dennis is still a complete unknown. A second 4.0 who probably won't play. Alonso won't play most weeks. Matip is a rotation risk. De Gea could end up second choice. Pogba isn't generally a reliable pick.

      other than that...

Other than DDG (not sure who your backup keeper is) I actually like it.

      it’s certainly different

are De-Gea, Matip, Tsimikas, Stones, Alonso nailed ? I could see all if those missing out at the same time

Man U midfield and attack is very competitive so is Pogba even nailed ?

    5. Donny_Rover
      • 11 Years
      5 years, 10 days ago

Too many risks in that wildcard team - De Gea will possibly lose his place when Henderson’s back, Tsimikas definitely will and having another £4m defender means you’ve got nothing covering, Alonso and Stones will be in and out of the team, Matip’s made of glass and got more competition this year…

I’d downgrade Pogba to one of the £6-£6.5m options (Sarr, Benrahma, Raph), downgrade Alonso to a £4.5-£5m and use the savings to improve Matip & Tsimi.

    6. Diamondgeezer
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 10 days ago

De-Gea could be out once Henderson is back.
Matip is a rotation risk with both Konate and Gomez.
Tsimikas could be out soon as Robertson is back training.
Pogba is not very consistent, 1 good game a lot bad.
Dennis may be injured and Watford have a lot of forwards to rotate.
Alonso will be rotated as Chillwell is first pick when back.

There are some great option you could swap Pogba to in the 6-6.5 range. That extra money will help at the back.

This worries me as a QPR fan, as rumours are that Sheffield United want Seny Dieng as replacement. They can offer him more money than we can pay him.

We don’t have a backup that I’d trust to be able to start in his place, certainly not Jordan Archer or Dylan Barnes!

Newcastle worry me too, sniffing around Rob Dickie (rightly so in my opinion as he’s Premier League quality), as he’d be next to impossible to replace before the window closes.

Son is the main player I’m worried not to have this week. Although Wolves did look solid and are at home. Doesn’t mean it’ll stop him though.

      Hopefully.

Son with a set-piece monopoly is a tasty prospect.

Lukaku I'm confident on. Chilwell is probably 50/50 but want him long term so no biggy if Ayling comes in

Will Veltman come back straight into the starting XI once he's back?
Me rolling my transfer or not depends on this.

      Yep. Should do.

Was only pinged by the app, so had to isolate for 10 days. I'm sure he's been keeping fit.

Both players tested positive for covid-19 and missed out on their season opener but are expected to return to face London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday.

How do you test positive and then play a week later?

They likely tested positive days before the opener, meaning time to isolate/recover before this weekend. Not much time to train with team though by the sound of it.

Any other Gundo owners tempted to give him the armband? Could be a great differential if he plays

Not the armband as minutes will be probably managed. That is if he even starts.

I am worried though if CTY get medieval and the likes of Grealish, Mahrez et al haul big.

Too risky. He could easily come on as an 86th minute sub and mess up your captaincy.
