With Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.2m) set for a spell on the sidelines and a ban ruling Michail Antonio (£7.9m) out of Gameweek 5, many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are unexpectedly in the market for a new forward.
At the time of writing, the pair are the two most-sold forwards in FPL, but should we be selling them, and if so, who are the best replacements?
In this, our latest Fantasy Football Scout Members article, we’ll attempt to answer those questions.
In same boat but Raphinha / Leeds look off form?
I've had him and Paddy from the start and am wildcard both out
Just as the fixtures turn? I'm adding more Leeds...
Amazed anyone is selling Leeds I would love to have an obvious player to move out for a Leeds one. Would be surprised if Leeds did not get 3 goals.
Leeds will probably lose, and get relegated
I have 2 FTs and have no idea what to do with this, give me your best
Sanchez / 4.0
Dias / Coufal / White / Ayling / Tsimikas
Salah / Bruno / Raphina / Benrahma / 4.5
Lukaku / Antonio / Toney
Any help gratefully received
Thanks
How much ITB? You're just missing TAA really.
Only 0.3. Really hard to get TAA in, without moving Dias on, and he is currently massively delivering
You will be wanting to get TAA in sooner or later and will take hits.
Sirely not wise to go without him on WC?
Don't think he's on a WC buddy.
Yeah, sorry, looked like a WC team. Did not read the 1st part of the post lol
If you want to engineer it for next week, you need to have approx 1k in the bank right?
If you're just looking to improve your team Coufal to Semedo?
Nice suggestion
I'd maybe go Bruno to Gray/Docoure & Toney to CR7
That is so tempting
I’d do Ben and Toney to ASM and Gray
Is Ramsdale 1st choice now do we think?
Yeah I'd imagine so.
Think I'm fairly settled on this WC.
Sanchez (Steele)
TAA, James, Marcal, Duffy, Livra
Salah, Jota, Torres, Docoure, Gallagher
CR7, Jimmy, Richarlson
Any changes??
Richa is a massive trap
Could go Bamford but Leeds are brutal
Not keen on Jimmy either. Wolves attack as a whole not really doing anything.
Would keep Antonio and go 352. Torres to Greenwood.
None of the DCL replacement options few great to me
Was meant to be in reply to the comment about Bamford…
Thoughts on saint maximin as a budget DCL replacement to make an upgrade elsewhere? (Bring in TAA)
Lack of team goals mate.
They put 3 past Spurs
That was palace…
And this is why I’m doing terribly!
Brilliant!
If its to facilitate TAA, I probably would
How do I compare Semedo against Marcal?
Marcal isn't on the player comparison tool and Semedo isn't in the new player comparison tool!
Very frustrating!
Marçal
Semedos the better pick anyway if u can afford it
Marcel got lucky, Semedo getting in some great positions just needs some better finishing.
Just go with Coady, Semedo not worth the extra.
Marcal is a far better pick
Not sure we'd be saying he was if he didn't get those jammy assists. Probably is worth a punt at the price though tbf.
My main point was steer clear of Semedo.
He’s a wingback in a team playing well, for just 4.5m. He’s a fantasy football dream, mate.
He may be but I'm reserving judgment for now.
Grateful for some advice
Current team
Sanchez
Shaw Coufal Duffy (Livramento) (Amartey)
Salah Jota Greenwood Gray Benrahma
Ronaldo Lukaku (Perica)
Wildcard team
Sanchez
Trent James Rudiger Marcal (Livramento) (Duffy)
Salah Jota Raphinha Gray (Mendy)
Ronaldo Lukaku (Perica)
6 changes + 1 hit saved
In - Trent, James, Rudiger, Marcal, Raphinha, Mendy
Out - Shaw, Coufal, Duffy, Amartey, Greenwood, Benrahma
Feels worthwhile for an overhaul of defense. Any thoughts ?
Nice., I think its worthwhile.
What rank are you if you don't mind me basking? You've started with a team many have wildcarded to
154k
Nice to see you took the advice from yesterday.
That team isn’t affordable, and has too many players. Assuming one of the starting defenders needs to replaced with one of the too many subs
It's only 0.3 more than mine in fairness and if he caught price rises it might be?
sorry ignore Duffy in the wildcard team
Sanchez
Trent James Rudiger Marcal (Livramento) (Duffy)
Salah Jota Raphinha Gray (Mendy)
Ronaldo Lukaku (Perica)
My TV is 101.6 if it is helpful.
without Duffy that is, fat finger syndrome.
Looks superb. Jota > Torres gw8 could work out well. Keep your eye on JWP from gw8 too
Thanks, Torres from GW8 is a great shout. Firmino will be likely back by then
4.5 FWD with best chance of playing ANY minutes?
Zilch?
Thats what I thought just wanted to check if anybody had any hope
Dennis
5.2
None so far. Just leave them as fodder. 4.5m mids better choice but limited points.
Have decided Im going with Cr7 and Lukaku so 4.5 FWD is needed
OK. What's the rest of your team? Nearly 1/4 of your budget on 2 highly owned players.
Currently:
Sanchez
Taa Shaw Semedo Williams Livra
Salah Jota Raphina Traore Sissoko
Over the next few weeks Jota will become Gallagher and Williams Rudiger
Very few have both though, with DCL and Antonio I’m tempted to do the same… though I like Antonio and he’s only out for one
Exact same boat.
Either Antonio and DCL to Lukaku and 4.5 or DCL to Bamford and bench Antonio. Leaning towards the former now
I also have Raph and Ayling and really don’t want to triple up on Leeds…
Scarlett if Kane does not start pulling up his socks.
Scarlett seems to be everyones pick was wondering if something had been said that suggested he might get a chance at some point
Gelhardt. The next Rooney!
Thats what Bamford called him isnt it?
Two 4.5 youth players at Leeds, wonder which has more chance of playing if say Bamford was injured
Locadia is on Potter’s watchlist; could get a look in.
Locadia is the one I was actually gonna go with as he is the onky one who has previously played before
He’s in my WC. He was compared to Duffy. Might come to nothing but beats his replacement Perica who isn’t even in the same league. Good luck

who score more points over next 2 gameweeks guys
A) Jesus (SOT, che)
B) Bamford (new, WHA)
C) Jimenez (BRE, sot)
D) Ricarlison (avl, NOR)
E) Ihaenacho (bri, BUR)
B.
B
I like saint-maxim
Made me realise how limited striker choices are, not one of these would I back to score in both games.
I guess B.
Iheanacho, yes! Hopefully he starts Thursday and does well, would love to put him in this week.
Otherwise probably Bamford.
It will be very tight. think it will be Richarlison from those with Dcl out. On pens likely. B and C are shrewd picks also
A) 5.4
B) 9.4
C) 8.8
D) 8.7
E) 3.4
Projections ^
great responses
looks like DCL dropping tonight and Bamford still an injury doubt
Playing around with possible WC- how does this look?
Sanchez
TAA Semedo James Shaw
Salah Raphinha Saka Gray
Ronaldo Lukaku
Steele Livramento Sissoko Scarlett
I know it’s hard but I would find room for a 7.5m slot. Sooo many options around that price to interchange
Thanks- as you say hard to do- 7.6 mid and White over Shaw or James would get me there
HMC is right.
I'd do White over Shaw. Coming from a United fan.
Marcal is still just 4.5m.
I’m doing the Wolves wingback double up myself.
Great minds.
Do you know the FPL Blackbox pin by any chance?
Great team.
Almost identical to me
Great team
Don't like Semedo, would pick a cheaper Wolves defender personally, he's not worth the extra for mine.
Would rather have pukki then A.Armstrong (gw8) plus sissoko over Saka
Where is Cavani? Surprised Ole had to start Ronaldo against young boys
Minor injury
Sanchez
TAA Shaw Ayling Veltman
Salah Greenwood Raphinha Benrahma
Toney Ronaldo
Steele Antonio Brownhill Tsimikas
1FT, 1.9 itb
1. Brownhill >> Gray
2. Brownhill >> Sarr
3. Toney >> Bamford
4. Toney >> Jimenez
Thanks.
B if fit
Sorry, C
3
Thanks, even with triple Leeds?
Poor Ings the forgotten striker. Ings with bad fixtures, still the ebst mid priced striker (currently given injuries/bans)? Probably lol
I’ve just took him out for Bamford and benched Antonio. That’s how confident I am about Ings right now
On a WC would you go
A Ronaldo Lukaku Salah... 4.5m forward.. no Greenwood/Jota
B Spread the funds more. Ronaldo to Lukaku GW7..
C.. Salahless... like below..
Sanchez Steele
TAA James Dias Semedo Livra
Jota Greenwood Raphinha Gray Sissoko
Ronaldo Antonio Lukaku
B
Anything worth a hit?
Sánchez
TAA Semedo Reguilón
Salah Traoré Torres Jota Sissoko
Ronaldo Bamford
Steele Jansson Williams Antonio
I don’t think so, not keen on Traore, but the better options aren’t worth a hit I don’t think
Cheers
Who would you replace this week?
Alli (bring Raphina in)
Toney (bring Bamford in)
Alli does have Chelsea but may play more advanced if Son is out. Toney has the better fixture away at Wolves.
Many thanks
Bam if fit
Shaw and Traore/6.0
Or
Tierney and Raph
If 6.0 option who are good players to get
Sarr, Gray and Gallahger all look better options than Traore, imo.
Any wildcarders taking all three of Duffy, Livramento and Williams to rotate for their third defensive position?
Too risky?
No bad idea. Maybe pick two of them if you have 3 decent defenders
I’d agree with 2 as the limit. So much value elsewhere in defence as well - James, Alonso, Semedo etc
bad idea... too much value in defence
Pogba, DCL, Antonio
to Ronaldo, Bamford, Sissoko
For a -8?
Keep Pogba and Antonio
No
You playing or benching Sissoko?
Playing this week
Might work just this week, but if Antonio does well against Leeds it probably won’t - depends who you will captain if you do/don’t do it.. if you’re capping Salah or someone then I wouldn’t bother with this and just do the DCL swap
Good points - Salah will be my captain choice. Cheers mate
Not keen on Bamford for this week (so he’ll probably score a hat-trick!), I went Jimenez instead. I hear protests and disruption are planned along with away fans being sold home seats. Seems a recipe for disaster.
do you have a source for the planned protests ?
wiho do you think this will benefit, newcastle or leeds performance ?
Seems a recipe for Leeds battering them tbh
thoughts on Christensen ?
is he a problem for this weekend?
Thinking I might just save the FT rather than getting rid of Antonio. Sensible?
Sanchez
TAA, Shaw, Digne, Manquillo
Salah, Greenwood, Torres, Raphinha
Ronaldo, Toney
(Foster; Bissouma, Livramento, Antonio)
Save defo an option. Torres is a difficult one, ideally would prefer Jota there because he is more nailed at the moment, but could go big if he starts in the weekend. One to monitor.
Prefer Jota, too, but just out of reach with my budget. Unless I take a hit.
A. James & Townsend
B. Shaw & Gray
B
Looking at Benrahma in my team not a nice fixture next. His mate Antonio out. Shadow of Vlasic hanging over him. Only have 6.3 to spend on a replacement. So can’t afford Rafinha. So many options around that price feels like pot luck Sarr, Everton lads, Arsenal lads, or Wolves. I am in so much doubt over who to pick I feel I will save. Minefield!
Keep, could play striker.
Doucoure or Gray, Yarmo or Bowen will be up front for WHam
Yeah thanks. I did a bit of research on Doucoure. Benitez has set him a target of 5 goals and wants him to get further forward like his Watford days. Upcoming fixture v Norwich looks nice after the villa game. I was thinking Doucoure less likely to be rotated than Townsend/Gray when everyone is fit.
I'm half tempted to downgrade to 4.5 and then upgrade a defender
I didn’t consider that option I already have a 4.5m mid. But like you say it can mean a much stronger defence.
Thoughts on this wc team:
Sanchez steele
TAA Alonso Marcal Livra Williams
Salah Greenwood Jota Gray Gilmour
Antonio Bamford Ronaldo
Solid, just not sure about Alonso and how nailed he really is. Would prefer James.
But James didn't play the last game? How is he nailed?
Was he injured?
He was suspended
Oops didn't see that
---------Sanchez----------
Trent Shaw Coady Christensen
Salah Jota Raphina Sarr
Ronaldo DCL***
------------------------------------
Steel Antonio** Liver Mendy
1FT £0M ITB
what would YOU do ?
Dcl to bamford
nothing else ?
You can cope with just that
cheers... Its what I want to do also... just worried about bamford slight injury worry.. probably nothing ...
would be nice to avoid the price fall tonight on DCL
might not fall tonight actually ... might be tomorrow night
Benrahma + DCL > Raphinha + Jesus -4?
Plan to get Jesus out the week after, with a Mane + Jesus > Barnes(or equivalent, but think he comes good in the next few) + Ronaldo (C) -4.
Taking punty hits 2 weeks in a row, not rly a fan
just Benny > Raph if anything
Tbh i'd probably wanna keep Mane vs bre as well
I’m baffled by this advice. Surely I get rid of DCL? (I also have Antonio but that shouldn’t matter really)
Punty for Jesus but not Ronaldo!!
Barnes might be punty but like all the other players recommended instead having exactly pulled up trees e.g. Sarr + Traore.
Mane for Palace then I’ll move on. Brentford are tight. I’ll have Jota + Salah anyway. Mane has been amazing stats wise but not worth the money!
And surely Ronaldo (C) at Villa is far better too!
Home even
Yeh actually ur probably right, i was just thinking if u wanted to stick to ur original plan of getting Ron in next week.
Mane had about 50,000 chances this gameweek but does't seem to have his shooting boots unfortunately, hasn't for a while tbf...
Idk I'm probably looking at Ron > Lukaku in a couple gws
This +1
Mane is on his 99th league goal
I think it looks decent. Not sure on Barnes the way he is playing for Leicester is on borrowed time. Tielmens could be a better Leicester option.
Worth doing DCL > Bamford tonight to avoid price drop or wait on more info?
im worried about that video... probably nothing I guess
Going to end up with 5/11 players next week in Leeds - West Ham. Hard to justify FT’ing out Benrahma with such a good fixture on paper too…
Same actually.. good point
Best 4.5 mid??
Sissoko, was actually fairly involved against Wolves
agreed ... hes gonna get a few assists over the season IMO
