Liverpool and Manchester City both cruised to UEFA Champions League wins on Wednesday but as ever, it was the starting XIs and injury news that was of more interest to Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers than the results.

There is also fitness news to report from Chelsea and Manchester United, who contested Champions League group matches on Tuesday, and Leicester City and West Ham United, who are in Europa League action on Thursday.

INJURY UPDATES

Diogo Jota’s game-time prospects may have been given a short-term lift at Anfield on Wednesday as Roberto Firmino, Jota’s main rival for the central role in the Reds’ attacking trident, limped out of the win over Atletico with a hamstring injury.

While we await a full prognosis, a Gameweek 11 start – at the very least – for Jota looks more likely given the swift turnaround times between games on the continent and on the domestic front.

“If Bobby Firmino wouldn’t have gone off with a hamstring injury, [the night] would have been much better.” – Jurgen Klopp

Klopp also confirmed that Sadio Mane was withdrawn at half-time to avoid him picking up a second yellow card, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is “fine” after his substitution.

Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez missed the match with eye and calf problems respectively.

Manchester City have had a good run with injuries over recent weeks but Kyle Walker (knock) is a fresh concern for the Manchester derby, so Oleksandr Zinchenko will be on standby for a recall if Joao Cancelo‘s services are needed at right-back.

“We are going to review the players… especially Kyle [Walker] because he has a big kick in his foot.” – Pep Guardiola

Earlier in the day, Manchester United confirmed that Raphael Varane will not only miss the Manchester derby but also around a month of first-team involvement after suffering a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s draw with Atalanta.

Chelsea were also in action on Tuesday, with Mason Mount still not well enough to be involved following his recent illness. Mount subsequently returned to training on Thursday. Injury victims Romelu Lukaku, Mateo Kovacic and Timo Werner were absent as expected – they are all anticipated to make a playing comeback after the international break – while N’Golo Kante was left out as a precaution.

Ahead of Thursday’s Europa League matches, the typically vague David Moyes reported the usual “knocks and niggles” for West Ham United.

“We’ve got a couple of knocks and niggles behind the scenes which we’ll have to manage. Not serious, but just the odd one we might miss tomorrow.” – David Moyes

Andriy Yarmolenko and Nikola Vlasic were subsequently absent from the matchday squad.

Brendan Rodgers was a little more specific on the fitness front as Leicester prepare to face Spartak Moscow.

“Ricardo has joined back in with the medical team, he’s been outside, but if he’s not ready for tomorrow, he should be ready for the weekend.

“We’ve had a few players with the sickness bug that’s going about, but we’ll just have to assess that and see where they’re at. If they’re not available, I’d expect them to be okay for the weekend. It’s Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and James Justin. [Justin] has been back training with the group and he wouldn’t have been available for the game anyway, but those three guys have unfortunately been down for a few days. They’re coming around now, but whether they’re going to be at their best level for tomorrow, we’ll have to wait and see, but if not they’ll be back ready for the weekend.

“Ayo [Perez] is in the squad so he’s fine after the bug he had. Marc [Albrighton] is a few weeks away. He’s out on the grass with our medical and rehabilitation team, which is good, but he’s still a few weeks away.” – Brendan Rodgers

When i own Jota, i watch him miss chances, be on the periphery of the game, get subbed off after an hour (even when Bobby isn't available), swear i'll never get him again. Then as soon as it looks like he gets an extended run in the side, i think about getting him back.

    Hi,

    My team at the moment

    Sanchez
    White TAA Livramento
    Sarr* Salah Havertz Rapinha
    Kane Antonio Jimenez

    Steele Dias Douglas Luiz Marcal*

    2FT 0.3 ITB

For sure i want remove Sarr -> probably to Mbuemo.
I can save a second transfer as my team looks ok for this GW after removin Sarr.
I can remove Marcal after international break.
Would Yuu recomend anything else? I really want Chilwell but no cash without hits

      2) Do you think Liverpool keep a clean sheet? Y/n

Both ‘y’ or both ‘n’ then toss a coin. One ‘y’ one ‘n’ pick that player with the other first bench.

      If in doubt, play Antonio.

Rudiger for safety, James will have good moments like last week but you could also end up a bit frustrated with him at times with rotation/ cameos. Hudson-Odoi has been playing well of late too (although further forward) and Azpi played as RWB against Malmo so he might have bigger competition for that spot soon

    A) Vardy & Saka ➡️ Kane & ESR/Mbeumo/Gallagher
    B) Saka & Vardy ➡️ Son & Wilson/Jimenez

Think there's a very real possibility they will still get relegated even with buying big in January, we've seen far better teams go down in the past and really their only decent players are ASM and Wilson (who can't stay fit for long). Who are they going to attract that will change their fortunes so dramatically apart from a few mercenaries?

Good points. It'll be a long term project given where they currently are.

I am increasingly feeling that this backline is unbalancing my team:

    TAA James Cancelo Dias Livra

I sort of feel like I want to play the first four almost every week, which is giving me headaches further up the pitch. For example I keep looking at replacing Armstrong but then wondering whether I will actually find a place in my team for his replacement.

Dias has the lowest ceiling of the big hitters (arguably even lower than Livramento) so I am thinking of downgrading him to get some money in the bank for GW12 moves. Which downgrade is best:

    A) Reguilon (sort of leaves me with the same problem)
    B) A cheap but reliable starter (e.g. Lowton)
    C) An enabler to give maximum cash in the bank (e.g. Johnson)

    Thanks!!

        • 9 Years
        4 years, 1 month ago

Well yes, that's the other thing I need to consider. The thing is I basically don't really want/need to make a transfer this week but I have two FT and it seems wrong to burn it, so I'm trying to think of ways to give me maximum flexibility next week... Will see what Ralph has to say about Broja today, if he's fit I might just bring him in for Armstrong as they'll offer my team pretty much the same but get a bit of cash in the bank

    Ramsdale, Foster
    Cancelo, TAA, Chilwell, Livramento, Laporte
    Mbeumo, Salah, Havertz, Normann, Brownhill
    Armstrong, Antonio, Vardy

Very much considering Laporte to Reguillon, with the view of Vardy + Havertz to Kane and Son next GW (have 3.3m ITB and 2 FTs).

Too much hope for Conte or worth the aggressive punt?

    Otherwise it's something simpler like:
    A) Vardy to Kane and Havertz to Foden
    B) Havertz to Son, small tinkering elsewhere to afford Vardy to Ronaldo post GW13

    1. Will Kane
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 1 month ago

I think in isolation Laporte to Reguilon looks like a good move, and if it allows you the option of Kane and/or Son next week then why not? At least you'll get a first look at Spurs under Conte. I just don't know how to approach the Spurs assets. I would like Son but it's a real headache and probably 3 moves to get him into my team. Vardy to Kane is easy but I like Vardy's fixtures and am a bit reluctant to lose him!

Well its definitely the right 3 spurs to get if you want to make a really aggressive, high variance gamble on Conte & fixtures. No one can say whether its "too much hope" but it'll definitely give you an edge over managers like with (with only son) if it works out

my plan was to transfer Armstrong but since I lost 0.1m, I shall keep him for Norwich game

Any news on if Broja will be fit for the Norwich game after the IB?

Hassenhuttel PK today should give some indication

Whether he starts or not is a different question.

I also expect he'll start if fit. Armstrong did his usual thing of getting lots of shots off but turning out a bit wasteful

Glad I didn't punt on him before the Leeds game, watched MOTD at the weekend and he gets lots of shots off but they all seem to be from difficult angles or 20-25 yards out and a bit wild

      Close to coin toss territory

I"d would just go Sanchez. Argument for Guaita is that Brighton defenders are perhaps more appealing if you want to avoid a double up.

Palace I suspect could also switch to a back 5 fairly imminently which would be unknown territory.

Anyone going without brentford attackers? I don't see the appeal in selling the likes of antonio / raphinha for them.

Between Gallagher and Mbeuemo for me but that's for Benrahma, not worth ditching Antonio/Rap IMO unless you need funds

      1. TheBiffas

Yeah exactly. If I had Armstrong / Benrahma / Sarr I might look to replace them with brentford attackers but not for Antonio / Raph.

I already have Toney but can understand not wanting to get rid of performing players for Brentford assets. But they play the two worst teams in the division next, that combined have conceded 48 goals in just 10 games. Could be missing out

I have Raphinha and Antonio too and personally I wouldn't sell either this week too, Leicester are awful at the back and Antonio is Antonio, he might have tough fixtures but West Ham are 4th and he has the 2nd highest pts in FPL for a reason

I'm on Toney til 16/17 then switching back to Antonio. Still fairly optimistic he can outscore Mick for that period but I can understand getting cold feet on the move after last week

    Start 2:

    A) Cancelo

    C) Antonio
    D) Livra

      Not D.

I think Brighton defence is still far better than Southampton, and Newcastle attack is worse than Villa's.

Think that outweighs any attacking threat considerations

Yeah, I shipped Azpi for James a few days ago before the price change. Not exactly sideways for me as I'll probably need the 0.3m spare for future moves.

    C: Muembo + Son + Vardy

    Salah Raphinha XXX

Would you do Sarr to ESR/Mbeumo/Gallagher or save to have 2 transfers available after internationals?

With Jota in my team and now basically a confirmed starter this round, I'm starting to think I might be better off long term if I just save

should i bring in james for jansson for free?

i know its a simple question but jansson is one of my subs

with the move i will be benching one of james, chilwell, foden, antonio, cancelo, mbuemo every week (either voluntarily or forcefully)

I love James but in your position I'd say no to adding another rotation risk at expense of a reliable sub
