EVERTON 2-1 ARSENAL

  • Goals: Richarlison (£7.4m), Demarai Gray (£5.5m) | Martin Odegaard (£5.4m)
  • Assists: Gray, Andre Gomes (£4.9m) | Kieran Tierney (£4.7m)
  • Bonus: Richarlison x3, Tierney x3, Odegaard x1

THIRD TIME LUCKY FOR RICHARLISON AS GRAY HAULS

Demarai Gray’s (£5.5m) late winner at Goodison Park on Monday night ended a run of eight Premier League matches without a win for Everton. They had to do it the hard way, with Richarlison (£7.4m) twice seeing goals ruled out by VAR, but this was a much-improved display by Rafa Benitez’s side, with victory lifting them up to 12th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

As for Gray, he has been a real talisman for Everton this season, and bagged a nine-point haul in Gameweek 15 courtesy of a goal and assist. As a result, he has now scored more league goals than any other Toffee in 2021/22, with five, while his three assists is only beaten by Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.4m).

There could be value in the winger from Gameweek 18, too, when his side embark on a kind run of fixtures right through until Gameweek 26:

However, we should point out that all three of Gray’s efforts tonight arrived outside of the box, while he also failed to register a single touch inside Arsenal’s penalty area.

Demarai Gray’s xG shot map v Arsenal in Gameweek 15

“I was asking him because he had a knock and we didn’t know if he could carry on. But he said ‘yeah, yeah I can carry on” – Rafael Benitez on Demarai Gray

Elsewhere, Lucas Digne (£5.1m) was a surprise omission from the matchday squad despite playing 90 minutes against Liverpool last week, with Benitez opting to swerve the question when probed on his absence after the game:

The main priority for me is the team. We have to concentrate on that. Ben Godfrey did really well. He is a good player and we must get the best from him.”

Meanwhile, Yerry Mina’s (£4.9m) comeback lasted just 30 minutes, as he went off injured and headed straight down the tunnel, with Mason Holgate (£4.2m) replacing him in Everton’s back four.

“He has had a bad time with injury and he is coming back after one month. Today was in the hamstring. He is really down now but hopefully he can recover quickly. We will have to assess him.” – Rafael Benitez on Yerry Mina’s injury

AUBAMEYANG BENCHED / SMITH ROWE INJURY LATEST

Following tonight’s 2-1 defeat, it’s now back-to-back losses for Arsenal, with just one clean sheet in their last four. However, with good fixtures to come in December – Southampton (h), West Ham United (h), Leeds United (a), Norwich City (a) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (h) – owners of their backline assets shouldn’t be too concerned, especially given that only Liverpool have kept more clean sheets than Mikel Arteta’s side since Aaron Ramsdale (£5.0m) made his debut in Gameweek 4.

Further forward, they were poor in an attacking sense tonight, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£9.7m) dropped to the bench and also guilty of spurning a good opportunity when he did finally come on. As a result, the Gabon international has now failed to score in each of his last six Premier League appearances, with big misses against Newcastle United and Watford, plus his withdrawal at Old Trafford when his side needed an equaliser, real low points.

Elsewhere, Emile Smith Rowe (£6.1m) wasn’t fit enough to make the squad, after suffering a knock during the second-half of Thursday’s defeat at Manchester United, which Mikel Arteta touched on in his post-match interview:

“He was with pain and could not train or travel. We will see how he is.”

… while Gabriel Martinelli (£5.2m) also picked up an injury:

“I don’t know. We will have to assess him. He felt something in his hamstring so I am not very positive about it.”

Kieran Tierney (£4.7m) made his first start since Gameweek 8, as he replaced Nuno Tavares (£4.3m) at left-back, and duly provided his first assist of the season, plus a clean sheet too, having been withdrawn just after the hour mark.

“We made some changes today, the same with Kieran (Tierney), you have to freshen up, there’s a lot of games coming up and we want everyone fit and available. Auba’s more of a threat in behind, more down the left, Laca’s more of a link player. They’re different.” – Mikel Arteta

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Mina (Holgate 31), Keane, Godfrey, Allan, Doucoure, Gordon (Iwobi 87), Gray, Townsend (Gomes 66), Richarlison

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney (Tavares 65), Partey, Xhaka, Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli (Nketiah 71), Lacazette (Aubameyang 85)

No idea why I never remember this but If I have made moves already and then free hit it wipes the moves and my team next game week will be the exact team that ended GW15….correct?

It seems my planned move for 2 GWs won't work since im going to be priced out
    This GW: Alonso -> Johnson
    Next GW: Son+Toney-> Bowen+Ronaldo

Would you do these moves now for -4?

Johnson went off injured against Chelsea, and seems like Spurs have had a big covid outbreak, possibility that may spread to Norwich which could mean we see a few games postponed. Hold off

Got Dennis at 5.2, but now they're the same price, I'm not sure. Dennis looks better on the eye test though and has scored more against better teams and had more double digit hauls.

Read some comments from the last few articles as this question has been asked and answered a lot!

    5. Jafalad

      King.

He has by far the better underlying stats: BCs, goal attempts and most importantly, positioning in front of goal.

Dennis is over performing by xG 5.0 so he has to regress at some point. Unlike the poster above, he fails the eye test for me because he is playing out wide right most of the time.

Plus King has the other advantages mentioned above.

To be honest the way players are dumb enough to hug and kiss after goals when we effectively still live on plague island, maybe teams should be forced to play, even if it means putting ground staff out to play. Maybe that would focus minds !

    Omicron Covid.

We have seen this variant rip through teams in the way previous variants did not - the Portuguese team getting 13 cases & the Munster right team getting 10 cases.

I think it’s best to hold transfers form now on to the last minute because a few cases of Omicron in a PL team no doubt rapidly spreads in close proximity and likeky will result in a postponed fixture

I want to make this trade:

Bilva for Gallagher or Son and...James for Alonso.

Currently, it leave me with 0.2 spare. But I am concerned with the transfers in for both players that this will make this trade unworkable.

Should I bring James and Bilva in now or just wait till the end of the week after the European games? Ta 🙂

How? Both are going to concede goals and get save points. One is 0.5 cheaper and allows me to upgrade to get the likes of a Foden / B.Silva / Ronaldo in.

No. As the article above mentions, Ramsdale has some good fixtures coming up and I am not sure why you want to get rid of the best gk in FPL.
You shouldn't be really making gk transfers during the season. Not worth it.
Mbeumo and Vardy - yes. Keep Rams and Son.

Is it worth taking a -4 to do Kane to Ronaldo? Have the exact money in the bank (0.1) to do this before I get priced out.

Back from the game and delighted with our performance and the 3 points. Surprised at how poor Arsenal were. Worst I’ve seen them play since that terrible start to the season.

Anyway, our attacking players are a different prospect when Doucoure plays. He adds so much to the team. What a signing Gray has been. Doesn’t put a foot wrong and looks after the ball so well in possession.

From a fantasy perspective, I don’t suppose anyone will be particularly interested in any of our players until Dom is back. Our fixtures change for the better around then too. UTFT.

I’m pretty terrible at having an impartial view of the opposing team when I’m at the game. I’m watching it back now with my rational head on.

Gabriel and Tomiyasu drew the eye far more (and then Tavares later on for all wrong reasons).

Lots of knee jerk even from many of the so called experts re jumping of investment in defence following a couple of not so good weeks for premium defenders. Talk about fickle ! It was only a couple of gameweeks back when my back four hauled 50 points. Given their prices they still offer way better value than similar priced mids, especially over a season. I saw only one sensible expert post which was from Lee Bonfield saying that the absence of Kante is the main issue at Chelsea. Us Leiester fans second that as Ngolo made Wes Morgan and Robert Huth look world class in that title winning season.

For me, getting Cancelo in for a hit 3 GWs ago and him scoring a total of 5 points since then is making me want to get rid and go back to a back 3. Especially with the value in MIDs and FWDs that is emerging. Will be patient and hold for now though.
      Agree on Kante at Chelsea.

If Son is out, Son to:

    A) Foden
    B) Bowen
    C) Mount

I also have Bilva and Antonio.

      Why is Son out?

Spurs have 6 players and 2 coaches out with COVID. I’ve seen 2 lists of names on Twitter, Son is on the more star-studded list, but I’m hoping the other one is more accurate

C would be a punt that could work out ok. Depends if you plan on benching most weeks.

I had decided on getting Mount in with Dennis for Cornet and Wilson(he was a 2 week punt that worked out well) with my 2 free transfers. Now I'm getting swayed by Bernardo.

    Bernardo or Mount?

      I'm looking at Bernado.

    Evening folks. 2 FT.

    Sanchez
    TAA Cancelo James Alonso*
    Salah Jota Raphinha* Gallagher
    Vardy / Antonio

    Steele / Toney* ESR* Livramento

    A) Raph/Toney > Bowen/Dennis
    B) Raph/Toney > Bowen/King

I understand the penalties, xG & AFCON, but is Dennis better?

If I do these transfers, bench Gallagher (EVE)?

I could ship ESR & Gallagher if needed, but I think if I do that I'll be next week. WOL is trickier & gives me another week to decide Bernado vs. Foden.

A for me, Dennis looks better when you watch the games. He also has more double digit hauls and has scored more vs better teams. However, the Pens and AFCON do favour towards King. Dennis probably rising in 10 mins too, so they will be same price.

I'll probably end up going for King thinking about it. Far lower owned too, which I quite need.

    Ramsdale (Foster)
    TAA James Cancelo Alonso (Livra)
Salah Jota Foden (Saka, D. Luiz)
    Vardy Antonio Dennis

2 FT, 0.8m itb. Any ideas? Maybe Saka + Livra -> Bernardo + Amartey?
    Or just Saka -> Bowen?

As annoying as he can be, I think Foden is better. Wolves will put up a fight so I'm going to prioritise a Bowen this week, City next week.
