Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are looking to Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City for the Gameweek 16 captaincy, and as per usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to highlight which assets have the best chance of hauling.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 16 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Friday’s 18:30 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

For the ninth Gameweek in a row, Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) tops the captain poll, with 54.56% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Second-placed Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.4m) has received 17.37% of votes ahead of his team’s trip to Norwich City.

Man City duo Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and Joao Cancelo (£6.8m) occupy third and fourth place respectively with 6.42% and 3.81%, followed by Jamie Vardy (£10.7m), who has garnered just over 3% of total votes.

MOHAMED SALAH

Mohamed Salah continued his excellent campaign earlier this week, as he grabbed the equalising goal for Liverpool against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League. As a result, the Egyptian took his tally to 20 for the season, which has included 13 from 15 outings in the Premier League. For Fantasy managers, it perhaps seemed like the perfect opportunity for the Reds’ no. 11 to be handed a rest, given that Jurgen Klopp’s side had already qualified as group winners, but the German had other ideas as Salah completed 64 minutes of action.

As for Aston Villa, Sunday’s win over Leicester City was Steven Gerrard’s third in his four matches in charge, with the only defeat coming in narrow fashion against Manchester City. During that time, his team have looked more organised, notably keeping Pep Guardiola’s side to their lowest expected goals (xG) value of the season.

ASTON VILLA’S DEFENSIVE RECORD UNDER STEVEN GERRARD:
GameweekOpponentGoals concededxGC
15Leicester City (h)10.88
14Manchester City (h)21.04
13Crystal Palace (a)10.88
12Brighton and Hove Albion (h)00.52

However, we’ve seen good defences arrive at Anfield before, and ultimately leave unsuccessful in their attempts to keep Salah quiet, who is operating at a whole different level this season.

Of Liverpool’s other options, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.1m) stands out, given that Villa have conceded more crosses from their left flank than any other side since Gerrard’s appointment.

Aston Villa’s chances created conceded heatmap under Steven Gerrard

That leaves Diogo Jota (£8.0m) and Sadio Mane (£11.9m) as alternatives, though it’s hard to put either ahead of Salah right now, given the Egyptian’s attacking output, plus penalties of course.

What are people doing with Reg?
Thinking of keeping, but as I also have Johnson as back up, who is out with hamstring, and also Sanchez, Got 1 FT.

    Move who?
    a) Reg
    b) Johnson
    c) Sanchez
    d) take a hit to move 2

If the rest of your team is okay, I'd hold and make two free transfers next week when the situation is clearer.

If not, Reguilón to a Chelsea defender.

    3 weeks ago I did:

Sa, Chilwell, Gallagher, and Vardy to Guaita, James, Jota, and Kane.

Without Jota this could have been my worst transfers ever:

    Original 4 got 43 - transferred in 4 got 37-8pt (hit) 31!

I honestly expected it to be way worst considering Sa and Vardys hauls (it’s Kane doing literally nothing)

    Close to bottomed.

    Sanchez*
    TAA / Cancelo / James / Alonso
    Salah / Jota* / Bowen
    Vardy / Antonio / King

    Steele* // Gallagher / ESR* / Livramento

    - Jota might be fine. If not, bench cover him.
    - Bench order correct?
    - Sanchez > DDG or Ramsdale?

GK transfer is for a -4, but one I reckon pays off either this week or longer term.
I think I'd go with DDG if I was 100% he was nailed, but Henderson in the picture...

Any United fans willing to share their opinion?

Jota is okay, got rested for a game Liverpool didn't ned to win. If you have 1FT, I would roll for flexibility or bring in Guaita

No FTs. Looked at Guaita but not as convinced as I'd like. Far too many late goals conceded. (This was the same when I had him at the start of last season too.)

If you think DDG/ Ramsdale outscore Sanchez by 4+ points over next 10 or so weeks then do it.

I’d be surprised if DDG gets rotated but it’s not impossible.

It’s save or -4 out Sanchez and I’ve got a similar decision

Yeah the -4 is not the issue. I'd happily do that this week whilst the fear of immediate bite-back is as low as it can be.

It's just Ramsdale (nailed, but ARS ropey) vs. DDG (not totally nailed, great fixtures, albeit defense has been poor)

If you have the money, maybe go from Steele to Bachman? Keep Sanchez for the doubles.

I don’t think DDG will lose his spot but Rangnicks only managed one game so who knows

I wouldn't do Bachmann for a -4. Barely ever keep CSs & the one other week Sanchez has a BGW (GW24), Bachmann has WHU... if he hasn't lost his spot to Foster again.

One of Sanchez's doubles will be CHE... meh.
One of them will have TOT... potential meh.

Thanks for your opinion on DDG.

DDG has been our player of the season. We’d be 10th without him.
Rangnick will know this, believe me!
No way he gets dropped, rested occasionally perhaps, dropped no way

Thank you. Honestly believed this too, but browsing the United forums left me more confused. But there's this talk of Hendo going on loan in January too.

A rest would be annoying over Christmas, can't lie... but you may have helped me force the move. Thank you.

I really don't get this, DDG is the better keeper, is it because people think Henderson is better with the ball at his feet or something?

You've got a strong squad there. I'm seriously considering Sanchez to DDG tonight for a hit, no way that doesn't pay off unless he gets dropped?
ESR out this week too would be the killer blow

    McCarthy ** (Foster)**
TAA Cancelo Manquillo (Duffy ** Williams **)
Salah C Jota Raphina CHO (Son **)
    Jesus Antonio (Toney **)

Since CHO and Jesus are unlikely to start, I'm down to 7 likely starters.

No idea what to do, could just do McCarthy to Mendy and Son to Bernardo for -4 and hope CHO and Jesus get minutes.

Other more elaborate options for -8 would allow me to bench CHO who most likely won't start?

There are ways I could bring in Ronaldo, Lukaku or Sterling too.

Really appreciate any thoughts, I'm in a bit of a mess

honestly i'm not that sold on King, Watford have scored a few goals under Ranieri but remain a poor side and could easily go the next 3 or 4 gameweeks only scoring 1 or 2 goals.

Mount is playing well and fairly nailed right now, but Chelsea have so many attacking options they could rotate over next 6/8 weeks

I feel like I have too many issues and too many options for changes - also now hearing Jota potentially out which doesn't help.

    A: Son Sanchez > Bilva/Bowen DDG/Ramsdale (probably Vardy > Ronaldo next week)
B: Vardy Son > Ronaldo Bilva (play with 10 this week)
    C: Vardy Son Sanchez > Ronaldo Bilva/Bowen DDG (-4)
    D: ASM Son > Dennis Bilva/Bowen (play with 10)
    E: ASM Son Sanchez > Dennis Bilva/Bowen DDG/Ramsdale
F: Any other permutations of the above??

Yep with 0.7 to spare. Doesn't leave me much options to upgrade in future GWs i.e. getting in Ronaldo. ASM/Vardy > Ronaldo/Dennis for a -4 next week would only work if none of those players change price as it is exact cash after the 2 you suggested

I'd move Son first of all.
Vardy and ASM, I'd keep for this week.
I'd wait to hear if Jota is injured. If so use the second FT there.
      The keeper, I'd hold.

Bilva, Bowen and Mount are all good candidates.

I could potentially do it with a -4 but might just give Vardy Newcastle and wait till next week and do it for free - still undecided on a few options posted above

I’ve got so many players out and would need to take a -20 to make a team.
What do you make of this free hit team?

    Bachmann
    TAA James Alonso Cancelo Dalot
    Salah (c) Rashford
    Ronaldo Lukaku King

Very true but I have Brighton keepers, Toney, Smith Rowe, Jota, Jesus and Jimenez away at Man City too. If I’ve already made hits are they wiped out even if I only activate the free hit tomorrow?

Fair enough when you list your team so maybe playing that chip is the right move.

But 100% would not have Lukaku or Bachmann. (I think seeing Bachmann's name first made me think it was worse than it is 🙂 )

Wouldn’t want Lukaku long term but I’m thinking he could be a good differential this week as a one off. Leeds are a mess defensively and also have no Phillips or Cooper.

Sure I get that, but he just looks fat and like he needs Conte to shout at him in Italian for an hour. I honestly don't fancy his chances of even playing against Leeds as Werner was impressive v Zenit, if you want your differential it could be him.

If you want Bilva & Ronaldo, you probably need to drop Antonio to another forward.

Not ideal with the fixtures, but it's how you do it (I don't believe moving King to fodder is good due to all your other fodder.)

Wouldn't drop Jota as Tommo has suggested as there's no concrete news yet anyway.

I would agree, was playing up OOP against Palace and likely to continue doing that but Cavani will also get time when he's fit

Thanks, forgot about Cav. Might just go for it and then switch back to Son once doubles get confirmed.

I guess Rash is a 70/80 min man at best but with OOP and those fixtures should be worth a punt.
