Phil Foden is only a substitute as Manchester City take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first of five Premier League matches today.

Kick-off at the Etihad is at 12:30 GMT.

It seems like Foden has been a doubt for every league fixture ever since he returned from international duty in November with ankle problems, and he isn’t risked from the start this afternoon despite making the matchday squad.

Foden and Kyle Walker are the only two players who made Pep Guardiola’s Gameweek 15 starting XI who lose their places this lunchtime, although City did have a Champions League tie with Leipzig in between.

Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish are the only players who have started all three league and cup matches over the last week.

Replacing Foden and Walker from the Gameweek 15 side are Gabriel Jesus, who like Aymeric Laporte has recovered from a knock, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Bernardo Silva was the most-bought Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player of Gameweek 16, with just over one million transfers spent on the Portuguese midfielder, and there is no surprise to see him reclaim his place in the centre of the park after a midweek breather.

There’s just one change for Wolves from their brave loss to Liverpool, as Hwang Hee-chan is replaced by Joao Moutinho. That alteration, presumably, will see Bruno Lage beef up his midfield and move from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2.

Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez will be attempting to create their 2019/20 heroics at the Etihad up top.

Recovering from illness and injury to make the bench are Marcal and Willy Boly.

Having a disastrous season at 1.6m rank, brought in King because of his XG instead of Dennis, but feel elated to have won the Pep lotto with Cancello, Bilva and Jesus. The comeback begins here!

You could look at lower ranked teams as simply not having the in form players, so go with them when they are hot instead of trying to predict when you're already chasing?

Just having fun to be honest. The King and Dennis banter was great, now it's Bilvas turn to challenge Salah goat status.

I think at the moment formation is out the window.. we just need a full playing squad to ensure we can field 11. Cases going to rocket and more games will be postponed.. this is the start, look at the projections. I reckon multiple games will be called off.. might even need a winter break

He'll get forward as and when.

I did expect Wolves to keep it tight tbf.

He makes late runs into the box when City pressure the opponents. When in transition in open play he's pretty deep. It's all quite expected. He also has set piece threat. Not worried at all.

With 5 at the back the space can open up deeper too.

        And he can shoot.

  22. fusen

Maybe the question of defensive double/triple ups should more be, should you have more than one player from any single team?

Obviously most have Liverpool triple up so of their game is off during this winter period then nearly everyone is equally affected, but if you have 2 or 3 spurs players then you've just been hit really hard. So don't have multiple from low owned teams could become a thing

Over 150 games have been played this season and I think only 2 have been cancelled. Really doesn’t make that much of a difference

I didn't realise the threat of a new variant rampaging through the country was a thing 2 months ago? 🙂

      2. AIRMILES

        Precisely 150 games.

I think with Omicron doing the rounds, and the festive fixture logjam, as well as weather at this time of year, we could see a number of cancellations.

    2. AIRMILES
      • 14 Years

      Certainly worth thinking about.

Are we expecting the Spurs midweek match to be cancelled too?

Mahrez and Sterling are huge threats, imo. Especially when Foden comes back to take the false 9 role or LW with Grealish back to false

I'd rank Antonio, Watkins, Dennis and Benteke above him atm, especially with City mids + Cancelo being viable
