We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 18 ahead of Saturday’s later-than-planned 16:00 GMT deadline.

It’s a 4-5-1 formation this week and, as ever, we are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are chosen from the budget/mid-price crop of players to give some potentially cost-effective alternatives to the big hitters who invariably make the initial cut.

With six postponements and injuries, suspensions and positive tests abounding even at clubs whose matches are unaffected, there’s a smaller pool of players to choose from than usual this time.

GOALKEEPER

Cornet and Smith Rowe 1

Which Leeds United will turn up against Arsenal on Saturday? The side that battled so valiantly in defeat at Stamford Bridge last weekend or the one that rolled over against Manchester City in midweek? It’ll be an understrength Leeds, either way, with at least eight of their already thin first-team squad missing out in Gameweek 18 – and that’s without any Covid outbreak. Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1m) gets the nod partly as a consequence of the opposition but, of course, also on his own merit: he has the highest points-per-match average (5.4) of any first-choice goalkeeper this season and, in this decimated Gameweek, remarkably only two starting shot-stoppers are cheaper than the Arsenal man despite his heroics.

Whoever did those Scout Picks must be on acid. No Raphinha is unforgivable.

They're just going with the home team. And Arsenal are decent at the back. And Leeds haven't exactly lit up the league this year yet either. And that's it.

    Only 8 players. 🙁
    G2G at -4??

    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo Alonso
    Salah Jota Foden
    Watkins

(Foster Livramento, Dennis, Antonio, Gallagher, Bowen, Obamidele)

Worth another hit?? Gallagher > Saka or Livra > Tierney/Cash ??

Cheers. I guess it makes sense to have players from different teams and I’m not sure about an Arsenal defense double up.
I’ve got 0.9itb so a midfield upgrade is limited to £7m if I take out Gallagher.

      A. I would have said D but I don’t like the idea of double Ars defence… though it might be great!
C is obviously a great upgrade with a huge potential upside BUT do you need Ronaldo money for Newc game next GW?

So I just wasted my ft by getting a fifth playing midfielder when I am fielding five defenders. He doesn't get subbed in, right?

I think I can still complain that the formation rules are ridiculous, though. Like an IRL team wouldn't be able to play someone OOP (Antonio last week, countless other examples... James Milner left back, Phil Foden/Gundogan center forward). FPL management strikes again.

What do you like about the formation rules? Especially for when there's a sub? It doesn't mimic what happens in real football, so it isn't "fantasy football".

        1. kringe

          4 years, 2 months ago

When they first started with the formation rules it was more to stop us playing 2 defenders and having 8 attackers. Not sure they envisioned us ever wanting a 5 5 0 formation.

Just curious on why the selling price of player gets stuck to a certain point. It doesn't increase even if the buying price increases. Can anyone please explain the logic behind this? For example, I had bought ESR when he was 5.3 and everyone was shipping him off. Now that he's 6 or 6.1, shouldn't I be able to capitalise his complete price rise? I know there must be a solid logic behind it, but i have never been able to figure it out.

    1. fish&chips
      • 15 Years

Selling price increases by 0.1 for every 0.2 price increase (rounded down)

So if you bought at 5.3 you will be able to sell at 5.6 if he is 6.0 (0.7 increase / 2 = 0.35, rounded down to 0.3 SP increase). If he is 6.1 you can seek at 5.7 (0.8 increase / 2 =0.4 SP increase)

Just to limit the amount of team value increase I guess by switching around players. Especially during WC you could make huge gains by bringing an players in before the rise and then swapping them for new risers before the next round of price changes

U can check for the selling price. U bank in half the profit (round down) when u sell the player

I am asking what's the reason behind being able to bank half the profit and not the full.

Probably because we would all end up with stupid high team value and could have whatever players we wanted regardless of price. Its a budget game after all I presume those that make the rules have this in mind when it was set up. Been like this forever or as long as I can remember (13 years) I believe it works and is reasonable.

Yeah, I know. If it works, it works. I have no complaints as such. Just was curious behind the reasoning.

Not everybody can have a stupid high value team if the selling price remain 0.1 less than the buying price every time. But this technique of reducing the profit by halves is to tackle the exploitation that can be done during WCs. Thanks to Fish&Chips, now the rule completely makes sense to me. Cheers!

No problem. It was a good question. Many times I have seen the question of how it works asked, but nobody really questioning the why.

Should I upgrade Sanchez to ramsdale or Steele to ramsdale?

I feel having two starting gks for different teams could be useful

      Yes very.
I'd be tempted to do Antonio > Watkins if you can afford it though.

How does this look after a hit. I wish I knew that Bilva and Jesus would start but with a possible 11 I definitely shouldn’t be complaining

    Martinez

    TAA Cancelo James Regullion

    Salah Jota Bilva ESR

    Jesus Watkins

    No bench that can play.

    Ramsdale
    Taa James Cancelo reguilon
    Salah Foden Jota ESR
    Watkins

    Foster, Ronaldo, livra, davis, gallagher
    1ft 0.1 itb..

Have 10 playing.. what to do? Reguilon only question.

Could do Reguilon to a Villa defender. I'd be tempted to roll the transfer. Who knows what next week will look like, 2 fts could be gold.

Last question (need some shuteye before the panic/anxiety of the deadline creeps up)

    Martenelli or Ramsey?

Final piece of a -8 hit

Yeah the possible benching probably a slight problem tbh, might go Ramsey but agree Martenelli is better just my bench is grim! Ramsey is 4.5 and I'm going without Watkins so slight cover there maybe?

        Thanks for replying

So im one of those that picked King over Dennis.
Is going Saka over Smith Rowe the same mistake again?
Or has he just been unlucky (or less lucky) compared to ESR.

Saka's been brilliant with the ball. But not a FPL prospect i believe. He may score a few, but ESRs gonna get the returns far more than him.

Got 8 of the scout picks. Green arrows will be for whoever gets lucky with the correct city mids I think....But watch it be one of those days with an og and Rodri goal for a 2 nil win.

    What to do here DZ?

    Any thoughts?

    Ramsdale, Foster*

    TAA, Alonso, Cancelo, James, Livramento*

    Salah, Bilva, Bowen*, Jota, Galla*

    Ronaldo*, Dennis*, Gelhardt

    0.6m 1ft.

    A) Roll with 9 players

    B) CR to Watkins for free

    C) Bowen to Arsenal mid (for whom though)

    Any other suggestions? Ta!

    Last 2 gameweeks was disastrous
    Out: Foden, Vardy, Brownhill, Armstrong
In: Bowen, Ronaldo, Gallagher, Gelhardt for -8

Can field 11 with a -4 that includes Manquillo. Would you take a -8 to get a more nailed, reliable 11th man?

I'm considering keeping guaita and transferring in ramsdale as a second keeper. Maybe wise to have 2 playing keepers given the covid risk
