The Boxing Day match between Burnley and Everton was postponed on Friday morning, meaning that we are now down to seven fixtures in Gameweek 19.

The cancellation of Sunday’s game at Turf Moor follows Thursday’s announcement that Liverpool v Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford would also be called off.

It was the Toffees who requested this latest fixture be postponed, with Covid-19 cases and injuries ravaging their squad.

Everton are next in action on December 30th, so it remains to be seen if their Gameweek 20 clash with Newcastle United goes ahead.

Burnley now have four outstanding games still be rearranged and haven’t played since December 12th. They themselves are Covid-free.

A Premier League statement said:

The Premier League Board has this morning regrettably approved Everton’s request to postpone their Boxing Day away fixture at Burnley.

Everton were due to travel to Turf Moor to play on Sunday, at 15:00 GMT. The Board reviewed the club’s request today to postpone the match following further injuries to their squad. They concluded that the club will not be able to fulfil their fixture this weekend as a result of an insufficient number of players available to play due to COVID-19 cases and injuries.

The Board this morning was able to make its decision in advance of Boxing Day to give clarity to clubs and their fans. We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption caused to those supporters’ festive plans.

The League is aware that the decisions this week to postpone three matches on Boxing Day will disappoint supporters, and understands their frustrations at a special time of year when fans look forward to attending and watching football games.

POSTPONED MATCHES STILL TO BE REARRANGED

  • Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur (weather)
  • Brighton and Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur (Covid)
  • Brentford v Manchester United (Covid)
  • Burnley v Watford (Covid)
  • Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur (Covid)
  • Manchester United v Brighton and Hove Albion (Covid)
  • Everton v Leicester City (Covid)
  • Southampton v Brentford (Covid)
  • Watford v Crystal Palace (Covid)
  • West Ham United v Norwich City (Covid)
  • Aston Villa v Burnley (Covid)
  • Liverpool v Leeds United (Covid)
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford (Covid)
  • Burnley v Everton (Covid)
  • Brighton and Hove Albion v Chelsea (Club World Cup)
  • Chelsea v Arsenal (Club World Cup)

As unbelievably good as Foden is I am not sure I am buying the talk that he is straight back in after a game out. Depending on your interpretation Pep can be quite spiteful/a keen disciplinarian. Just look at Walker. Banished. Not saying he will do the same by any stretch but confidence in the return is premature in my eyes and there is significant risk with minutes.

    P.s. I own

From what I’ve seen the general consensus is that he won’t play.

Is that right? The weight of opinion has seemed the reverse from what I've seen, at least from 'content creators'. Must be a more even split. Just seen little concern for him being in already depleted teams when it comes to evaulating benefit of free hit etc

I’d say he starts. Pep said the front three of Sterling, Jesus and Mahrez struggled to find their rhythm. Foden is essential to that.

I saw that comment and it's notable but not definitive. I mean...they did win that game 4-0 and Gundogan was on the bench as well, who has himself been deployed with some success as a false 9 in the past. Foden is not the only answer if Pep sees a problem

Pep once pulled Thiery Henry at half time after he scored because he drifted off the wing to do it. He only cares about the shape and flow of the entire team. Goals come second to that.

1FT - 2.0m ITB & 10 players still on for this week as of now

    DDG
    Cancelo - James - White - Targett
    Foden - Bilva - Bowen - Mount
    Dennis* - Watkins

    Bachmann - TAA* - Salah* - Locaida

    A) Roll FT to keep Salah for next game
    B) Salah > Son
    C) Salah + Dennis > Son + Laca
    D) Salah + Dennis > CR7 + Martinella/Saka (leaves enough cash to do Silva/Foden > Son later)

Best moves here with 1ft and 2m

    Ramsdale -- Foster
Cancelo James Dalot Livra -- Taa
Bowen Foden Gundog Rah --- Jota
    Antonio Laca Davis

    A: Salah + Raph >> Son(c) + Bowen (-4) and £ for Laca > Ron in gw20
    B: Salah + Raph + Laca >> Son + Bowen + Ron (-8)
C: Salah + Davis >> Bowen + Ron (c) (-4)...but will raph play in 20? also only way i can get Son is by dropping Laca and Foden but that's ok i guess

    Kane - Ronaldo - Broja

I think I would prefer a mid over Kane. Any of: Mount, Bowen, Saka, Bernardo, possibly Mahrez.

What is your bench? That is more important than ever in case of last minute cancellations. I would definitely have a second keeper for example.

And also not sure if an extra defender over Broja might be better… but I think this might just be his price putting me off, as he has looked really good!

The 1st matches kicking off at 3pm helps - all the covid results for that day will be in, so we should know the fates of all games on that day ahead of the deadline. So there's only one game we can't react to, and that's the United game the next day.

It was the Toffees who requested this latest fixture be postponed, with Covid-19 cases and injuries ravaging their squad.
Why injuries become the reason to postpone a game? Clubs just keep making the advantage of covid issue.

Urgh... while I don't have any skin in this 3rd cancelled game, it does increase the likelihood of FHs being used elsewhere, which is a factor in how I tackle mini leagues and H2Hs.

I am short Dennis, the LFC trio, Rapha. I can go -4 and field XI, including Antonio (I have confident he plays, everything I hear from the club hints heavily at this). But, the Salah/Denis move to Son/CR7 is stopped by being short 0.1.

So, FH or Salah/Denis/James(!!!!!) out for the above two, plus Gabriel maybe, or Laporte. James is someone I was going to move on anyway, but later, and this would be just getting ahead of my plans.

Utter chaos. Going to put the kettle on, avoid the nephews and nieces who are screaming around the place, volunteered to chip in at work today so get to lock myself in my office earning OT and watching TV.

    A) Salah > Son(c)
    B) Salah + Watkins > Son + Ronaldo(c) -4
    C) Salah + Laca > Son + Ronaldo(c) -4

Look like good moves to me. Especially with AFCON around the corner.

Martinelli is the one in form but Saka is also a great shout.

Bottomed, and I'm lost really. Any help, please?

    Ramsdale
    TAA, Dias, Cancelo, James, Cash
Salah, Jota, Foden, Bowen, Douglas Luiz
    Lacazette, Watkins, King

Salah to Son, Luiz to Martinell for a hit, perhaps? Or Free Hit — this way I'd have Salah against Leicester, though ideally I'd play my FH on a double GW...

Just King to Broja should be enough?

        I love you, mate.

Plus Luiz to Martinelli worth the hit?

Problem with Free Hitting cos half your squad is out on Boxing Day, is the next round of fixtures is 2 days later. Presumably, many if not most covid +/ve players won't be back for GW20.

Yeah that’s why I’m so hesitant.

Right. Also, your FH players might have their games canceled after the deadline. This is always true, but the risk is obviously high right now, and perhaps mitigated during a DGW?

I've drafted a squad with 11 starters all kicking off at 3pm, so I'm okay if subsequent games are called off.

I guess 3x Liverpool would be back and you can captain Salah who everyone else is selling

That's the plan, for what plans are worth in omicron times.
