Following the rare sight of weekday 15:00 (GMT) kick-offs, Tuesday’s action concludes at the King Power Stadium when Leicester City host Liverpool.

Kick-off is at 20:00 (GMT).

Liverpool have made five changes from the 11 that played nine days ago at Tottenham Hotspur. Their Boxing Day match with Leeds United was postponed, giving more time for Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho to recover from Covid-19 and return to the line-up.

There are no shocks regarding much-owned trio Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota – all three start tonight, as do Sadio Mane and Alisson.

Their three-man midfield has changed completely, with Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joining Fabinho in replacing Naby Keita, Tyler Morton and James Milner. The final change sees Kostas Tsimikas step in for the suspended Andrew Robertson.

Takumi Minamino and Thiago miss out with minor muscle soreness, whilst Divock Origi still hasn’t recovered from a knee problem. Sat amongst the substitutes are Roberto Firmino and Ibrahima Konate.

Things are trickier for Leicester, as the hosts are without the likes of Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka and Ricardo Pereira. All are joined on the injury list by Caglar Soyuncu and Ryan Bertrand, as confirmed by Brendan Rodgers:

“Patson [Daka] will be three weeks, Soyuncu will be out for three weeks and Ricardo Pereira will be six to eight weeks. That’s so frustrating for him with how hard he has worked. It’s a fractured fibula and he’s lucky it’s not worse. Ryan (Bertrand) twisted his knee in the warm-up, which was disappointing.”

Unlike Liverpool, the Foxes played just two days ago and had to manage the minutes of Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi accordingly. Both start here, with Timothy Castagne replacing Marc Albrighton at right-back.

In-form James Maddison is chosen for the sixth consecutive time, having returned four double-digit hauls in his last five games. The 53 points of this spell average out at 10.6 per match, linking up well with Kelechi Iheanacho during a strong second half at Manchester City.

Yet their defence conceded six times on Sunday and Salah captainers will relish the sight of Daniel Amartey and midfielder Ndidi being paired at centre-back in the absence of Soyuncu and Jonny Evans. There is only a place on the bench for Youri Tielemans, as Hamza Choudhury makes his second league start of the season.

I’m usually accused of being a Utd fan so this is interesting. Stop throwing insane amounts of money at the wrong players would be my suggestion. Rice would be a better signing. Ndidi actually would be decent too but I strongly suspect there would be no value there

the way Moura is playing as well it's tempting to triple up 😀

I’d go a defender for the triple up
        Probably Ben Davies.
Moura will get the odd benching as well,Son Kane are guaranteed to play every game without fail.(unless injury and stuff)

To anyone who captained Salah, take this as a reminder to never take FPL too seriously. It's a game that's ultimately decided by luck, you can made all the educated decisions you want if fate has other plans then none of it will matter. As the saying goes "Man proposes, heaven disposes".

But 57 weeks in a row, with I think, six captains goals in that time and 51 blanks suggests more than a run of unfortunate captains picks.

      1. Alnair
        • 9 Years

There's definitely skill in FPL but the point is the game, like many things in life, is ultimately decided by luck. Your skill can give you a 70% chance of success instead of say a 20% chance but if that 30% happens then it happens and if that 20% happens for someone not as skilled as you then that also happens.

    3. Will Kane
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 3 months ago

Absolutely, hard to understand the attitudes on here sometimes. I was 50/50 all the way up to the deadline between bringing in Kane and Salah as captain. One scored a pen, one missed a pen. Hey ho, wouldn't have considered myself a genius if I'd gone for Kane, not going to lose sleep over Salah

i sold him last week based on the calculation of the players coming in had more games + easier games should = more points, with the hope rather than expectation that my Kane(c) today can match him, never in my wildest dreams was i expecting a 0 from him today though 😆

Son owners are probably thinking the same given he played saints 10 men for a lot of the game. It's not really dodging a bullet with Son's form, it was always likely they'd both return and nobody would be dodging anything. It's just satisfying that wasn't how it turned out

As mentioned the decision to cap this week also includes benching last week or transfers. Sound decision is arguable depending on circumstances

        • 6 Years

I kept Salah as my squad could cope with the benching, also have Son. Salah blanked due to a missed pen and a top save from Schmeichel, so a sound decision derailed by bad luck.

I have devised a brilliant business plan tonight for Dragons Den.

Football fans bid on the player that they most want to not score, get sent off, let in 18 goals, or miss a penalty, each week.

The winning bidder then notifies me of the player, I make the captain of my FPL team and they have the comfort of knowing that player does **** all in the game that they are going to.

Historically, some players have consistently secured good ranks…this suggests that it’s not all luck (over a whole season).

But when FPL change the rules part way through and games get postponed post deadline, it does definitely seem to be increasingly luck based I think

Getting 11 out seems somewhat out of our control (even with a full squad of 15 players).

Some players are unaffected and some are by postponements… luck

They should run two leagues simultaneously.

One including captains double points and one not.

I would be FPL Royalty with the second one.

Is there anyone to target from Leicester for this upcoming fixtures?

Feels like their goals are pretty spread around

    Vardy not sharp or scoring
    Maddison fitness issues
    Nacho off to afcon

Any of their options actually viable ?

      don’t think so

They performed great with what they had available but hard to say they deserved to win. Look at the xG

The team with significantly lower expected goals, 1 shot on goal, 6 shots vs 21 ‘fully deserved the victory’?

As I said Leicester did amazing with what they had but Liverpool should have won

If chances created and not taken decided games and not heart, commitment and aggression football would be an awful game. Chances need to be taken, Pool didn't take theirs, Leicester did.

Yes hence they won - but does that mean they deserved to win?

Or whoever wins = the team that deserved to win?

Some of the best performances I’ve seen watching football have been from teams that were having to defend for almost whole games, putting their bodies on the line. Just because Liverpool had more XG does not mean they deserved it any more than Leicester. I would say Liverpool were unfortunate not to get something mind.

Of course Liverpool had the much better team. Dominated possession. Shots etc.

But Leicester had a tough game on boxing day at city. Totally depleted defence. Liverpool had no game. Were fresh. Under those circumstances you have to give credit.

Look at the scoreline. 1G v 0G, no xG. Pool were brutal in attack, passing awful, shooting boots left at home.

As another poster said football is not played on XG. Many nowadays seem to forget this. There are many ways to win a football match.

Creating goal scoring opportunities (ie xG) is probably quite a sensible way to try to win football matches

It completely ignores the intangibles passion, teamwork. And what about interceptions, blocks clearances. It also does not tell you the type of shots a team are taking. If they are reckless aimless ones - of the Adama Traore type. Or the more clinical Vardy variety.
Looking at XG as an indicator of who should win a match is fundamentally flawed on many levels IMO.

            • 14 Years

Creating fewer and taking them is more important. Zero taken. Leicester defence, not just their defenders were hungrier for the ball. Pool looked pedestrian at times in comparison, complacent. A look like Man Utd. last night, expecting an easy three points, but not working hard enough for it.

They rode their luck too. Missed penaltty and both Mane and Jota were hopeless when the chances came.
