Fantasy Football Scout community writer Greyhead continues with his series of articles analysing the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) transfers and strategies of some noted Fantasy managers, from serial top 10k finishers to well-known faces.

The Great and The Good this year are the Scouts Joe LepperNeale RiggGeoff Dance, and Tom Freeman, FPL Wire’s Zophar, from the Hall of Fame Fabio BorgesFPLMatthewYavuz Kabuk and Tom Stephenson, Blackbox’s Az and Mark Sutherns, FPL “celebrities” LTFPL AndyMagnus Carlsen and FPL General plus last year’s mini-league winner Les Caldwell

“We don’t talk about Bruno, no, no, no!”

His owners certainly didn’t want to talk about Mr Fernandes, well not until the last minute of another rollercoaster Double Gameweek, when suddenly they turned very chatty.

Ownership or captaincy of Bruno Fernandes (£11.7m) was pivotal as to whether your arrow was dark green, light green or indeed red.

It was also a stark reminder that checking your live rank even a few moments before the final kick can be hazardous to your FPL wellbeing.

Elsewhere, Adam Webster (£4.4m) owners must be feeling blessed as he turned out to be the right Brighton defender to pick, certainly when compared to those FPL managers who stretched to Lewis Dunk (£4.9m) who found themselves 14 points down for the extra outlay.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

Magnus Carlsen and LTFPL Andy shared the glory of being this week’s top scorers as they both totalled 83 points; Michael Keane (£4.8m) was an unlikely hero for the Chess Grandmaster.

The leader Fabio Borges was not far behind on 81 points with Ruben Dias (£6.1m), who continues to be a great long-term pick, although to prove not everything goes his way, the Portuguese Hall of Famer did also have the red card of Dunk to deal with.

Neale and Mark were the unlucky Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) captainers who were left cursing Bruno’s goal, although at least Mr Rigg had some fortune as he had Craig Dawson‘s (£4.9m) thunder-blaster-header points off the bench covering for Joao Cancelo’s (£7.2m) absence.

TRANSFERS

The best FPL goalkeepers for a Double Gameweek 22 Free Hit

This is a summary of the transfers for this week :

  • Az – Ramsey (Martinelli)
  • LTFPL Andy – Broja, Fernandes (Antonio, Gray)
  • Fabio Borges – Dunk (James)
  • Joe Lepper – Fernandes (Gallagher)
  • Geoff Dance – Fernandes (Son)
  • FPL General – Cucurella (Alonso)
  • Les Caldwell – No transfers
  • Magnus Carlsen – Rashford (Gray)
  • Mark Sutherns – Dunk, Dalot, De Gea (Alonso, Diop, Guaita)
  • FPL Matthew – De Gea (Ederson)
  • Neale Rigg – No transfers
  • Tom Freeman – No transfers
  • Tom Stephenson – Fernandes (Foden)
  • Yavuz Kabuk – Fernandes (Gray)
  • Zophar – Fernandes (Gray)

Everyone rushed to get in United players this week with Bruno the most sought after. Magnus tripled up on the out-of-form Old Trafford outfit and Marcus Rashford (£9.4m) at least gave him an assist for being different.

Mark was the only one to take a hit with triple D moves for Diogo Dalot (£4.6m), David de Gea (£5.3m) and Dunk; needless to say, some worked better than others.

TEMPLATE

Harrison and Raphinha impress, Bamford latest: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes 6

The template for The Great and The Good is as follows, with the number in brackets showing how many teams in which they appear:

  • De Gea (10), Foster (6)
  • Alexander-Arnold (15), Cancelo (15), Livramento (9), Dawson (5), Coufal, Regulion, Digne (4)
  • Bowen (15), Jota (15), Bruno Fernandes (13), Foden (7), Raphinha (4)
  • King (13), Antonio (9), Ronaldo (9)

The core of the template remains unbreakable for another week with Demarai Gray (£5.5m) the only one dropping out for Raphinha (£6.5m), whose owners will have had some concern when he was left keeping warm on the sidelines in the second half at Goodison.

SWING WHILST YOUR WINNING

The last few weeks have our Salah perma-captain taken away from us and several armband swings have had a significant impact on our ranks.

We have had Antonio v Bowen (Gameweek 21), Fernandes v Ronaldo (Gameweek 22) and King vs Dennis (Gameweek 23), plus anyone unfortunate enough not to hand the armband to Diogo Jota (£8.5m) in Gameweek 24.

The following table shows the form of The Great and The Good over the last five weeks and the impact of the captaincy.

There’s no surprise that Fabio has been the leading light but the gains have been significant: he has scored 84 points more than the unfortunate Les Caldwell due to his armband decisions. Is it variance or skill? Either way, the captaincy calls have been a major influence on our arrows in the last few weeks.

Over the full season, the captaincy scores have accounted for, on average, 27% of the total scores of The Great and The Good – but as you can see from the table in the last five Gameweeks, this has been up to 39.7%. Captaincy has certainly been king in our fortunes or misfortunes from Gameweeks 21 to 25.

CONCLUSION

There’s much to look forward to this Gameweek, as Salah is a-go for the Triple Captain chip and we have some delicious doubles to devour.

Yet, before we all go hit crazy to cram in the Double Gameweek players, remember that whilst there may be no cloud in the sky, it looks like rain in Blanks Gameweek 27 and 30, so plan accordingly – and remember, don’t talk about Bruno.

Anyway, that’s all from me for this week.

      75-25 in favor of playing

If you want to just get away with playing BB, then this bench is fine. Otherwise I think you can get a better bench in future.

On paper, they could potentially score 15-20pts but BHA are inconsistent and Man Utd are Man Utd.

      Why Richarlison?

    4. Conners

James coming back from injury, possibility of rotation especially with CL back.

Richarlison is a punt, but they look better under Lampard and have three good fixtures in hand.

I don't like Mount for the simple reason that all of their attackers are fit and their aren't many forward midfield slots available in Tuchel's preferred formation.

CL adds further complication as far as rotation is concerned.

I think the question is whether Perraud keeps his place at LB, or whether Liv displaces him with KWP switching flanks. Perraud has looked good recently though

I would say Livramento is first choice RB. But the severity of his injury has meant he's been playing one game, resting for one, and this might continue.

    Repost:

Such a tough season. The last few weeks I've planned around the FH26/field XI in GW27 to differentiate myself from the 200K above me, and try to claw back some rank.

Very interested to see a few GW26 / GW27 teams from those of you that field XI in GW26/FH in GW27. Also with hits taken this week and TC deployed and stuff.

GW26 FH (might opt for Jota or Mané > Robertson if something happens tonight)
    Pope
    TAA - Robertson - Tierney
    Salah (C) - Zaha - Saka - Cornet
    Kane - Lacazette - Jiménez

GW27 (most likely a -4 to bring in Pope)
    Pope
    Cancelo - Varane - Coufal - Manquillo
    Pogba - Maddison - Bowen - Ramsey
    Kane - Ronaldo
    (Foster, King, Jota, TAA)

Obviously Ronaldo and Pogba out and Salah in for GW28. FH probably in GW30 and TC as a hail mary at some point.

Using BB and think I'm going with TAA(C). Wouldn't have thought the latter at any stage before this week but I've seen some good arguments for people using TC on him over Salah, and on the 2/3 occasions I captained him over Salah I ended up doing better for it. I have reservations about Salah's minutes with AFCON minutes combined with the huge games around these DGW fixtures (not that he needs long to haul) so logically if I think TAA is nailed and has a good chance of playing both and getting an attacking return or two, I should go for it so I've moved it to him.

Morning all, I'm bench boosting in 26, Maguire is on the bench, is it worth a - 4 to move him on for the BB and if so for who? Maybe Tark or Mee? Or just play Maguire?

Any hits for a Burnley D will have 4 games in two weeks to make up for the -4. I would shift for one.

I saw something recently that helps with these types of hit decisions. Imagine that Harry Maguire got 4 points in the first game of his DGW. Would you sell him?

I think the answer is clearly no.

Still very much considering it. There’s no actual reason to think Salah won’t play both games, it’s pure speculation.

Whatever about all the other stuff regarding gtg teams and give me advice on who to transfer in etc. TAA or Salah or maybe robertson for triple captain is the biggest decision and most important of all the gameweek!

Against 2 poor teams at both sides you probably can’t go wrong with either.
6 straight home returns for Trent so gut feel is that way

DGWs have been such a huge headache this season. You end up using free transfers on players you wouldn't normally pick. They fail to deliver, but you can't transfer them out because another DGW is just around the corner.

On a normal season you have couple of DGWs which cover many teams, and you can build a solid squad without crap teams like Watford or Leeds.

Foden almost certain to start. Taken off at 60 last night, and he basically only has 1-game a week for a little bit now. Peterborough & Sporting are not important games.

Having said that, I'd still play Dennis. 4pts of appearance points is not to be sniffed at. Even if City win 3-0 Foden may not be involved in goals. I'd rather bank the certain 4pts, with 2 chances of attacking returns.

Hi all, am pondering these moves, yay or nay?

    Bruno + Martinelli > Saka + Jota -4

(Liv triple up will be Salah (TC), TAA and Jota)

After last night losing Bruno feels a bit wrong considering he has Leeds next but feel there is better options elsewhere.

Had planned for Bruno > Son but as a Kane owner I’m not sold on the spurs double up if I’m honest. May bring in Son for 27 if I don’t FH as I can poss field 11 with just a -4.

    Advice appreciated - 1 FT, 4.9 ITB.

    Foster*
    TAA*, Robertson*, Cancelo, Digne
    Jota*, Fernandes, Bowen, Raphinha*, Ramsey
    Dennis*

    (DDG, Watkins, Laporte, Broja)

    Jota -> Salah and:

    A) Raphinha -> Saka
    B) Digne -> Tierney
    C) Digne -> Saiss
    D) Watkins -> Jimenez
    E) (no hit)

Leaning towards B or A - in any scenario I'll end up with 11 BGW27 players as won't be losing any of my 3 Liverpool and saving my FH. Close between Raphinha/Digne out & Saka/Tierney in....

    Cheers

Is it wise to lose Jota for the DGW? I appreciate Salah is essential but personally I’d lose Bruno > Salah and keep Jota

Cheers. Salah's a non-negotiable for me and I'm happy to keep Robertson as the 3rd spot who's ticking over nicely and I prefer the other midfield options. Jota's a great option, will be sad to lose him but as expected he's going to have to lose a few mins with Luiz coming in and Firmino fit. I'd also like to keep Bruno for BGW27 as he has a good fixture and for GW26 (Utd fan going to the Leeds game 🙂 ).

Given I already have 3 Liverpool, would that change your recommendation?

Reasons sound perfectly logical. I’m in the same boat re. Bruno. I feel like I should keep him for Leeds and Watford and am currently being swayed towards keeping him and ignoring Jota in favour of Robbo as my third liv asset.

Also I’d do A. Leeds look shot right now can’t see Raph returning much. Saka’s fixtures look really good going forward

Cheers. I'd need to lose Saka or Tierney anyway for 27 as I'm not using FH so it's really down to 26 only. Tierney has a great chance for clean sheet and attacking returns don't you think? I'm also not happy with my 3 Villa. Also not happy with Raphinha but hopefully he'd have half a chance of a return (still on pens?)

I suppose Raph could get a return?. I’d love to have Tierney but I’d need to choose between he and Robbo/VVD if I ignore Jota.
