Stevie of EyeTestFPL casts the spotlight on three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) options that caught his attention in Gameweek 26, using ‘eye test’ screenshots and information from our Premium Members Area.

Joe Willock (£5.7M)

Under Eddie Howe, Newcastle are slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with after several shrewd January signings. They will also have a great fixture run which includes back-to-back doubles in Gameweeks 28 and 29.

In particular, Willock is a player I’m looking at closely from Newcastle. With the rock-solid midfield duo of Shelvey and Joelinton behind him, he is often the most advanced central midfielder on the pitch for Newcastle.

Willock is the engine of the Newcastle midfield, often making surging runs forward. After skillfully beating Declan Rice, he managed to get in front of Tomas Soucek to get Newcastle on the front foot.

He again made another surging run from midfield past Declan Rice and Craig Dawson only to be brought down by the latter.

He then jinxed past a crowd of West Ham midfielders before leaving Ryan Fredericks with no choice but to foul him.

Being the most technically gifted player in midfield, it was no surprise to see him being given the freedom to roam forward into the penalty box. Especially when Newcastle got the ball out wide, Willock would make runs into the opposition area.

Jacob Murphy managed to get into the inside wide channel of the West Ham’s backline which became a signal for Willock to make a similarly dangerous run. However, Soucek was alert enough to keep track of the Englishman’s movement.

Newcastle were focusing their attacks from the flank, which simultaneously saw Willock getting inside the six-yard area. Fraser’s shot then took a deflection off Willock which could have gone anywhere.

It is clear Willock has goals in his mind based on his positioning, and his movement is somewhat reminiscent of Conor Gallagher’s when he was on a goalscoring spree earlier this season.

After another successful advance on the left flank, Rice failed to clear the ball away, inadvertently putting the ball back into the danger zone where Willock had been hanging around all afternoon. It then bore fruit to his first goal of the season.

He had another decent goalscoring chance from inside the box, but his shot could not make it past a swarm of West Ham defenders.

Willock was also trigger-happy from distance against West Ham, making three attempts from outside the penalty area. After a quick drop of the shoulders, he released one just wide off the post.

Over the last two Gameweeks, Willock is first among all midfielders for shots (eight) and joint-third for attempts inside the box (four).

One thing that’s worth mentioning is the possible rotation risk posed by new signing Bruno Guimaraes, who has replaced Willock off the bench in each of the last three matches. They’re different types of players, however, and the good news is that Eddie Howe has said on a couple of occasions recently that he likes the “balance” of his present midfield, and there seems little reason to change it while the Magpies are in form.

I expect Willock to maintain his often predatory presence inside the box over the upcoming matches, especially with Newcastle playing with more gusto lately.

Emmanuel Dennis (£6.1M)

With FHs being wielded by quite a few in the FFS crowd, who are you looking at or should FFS managers be looking at?

It does seem a bit of a template is emerging, which is inevitable, and which should help those looking to find differentials.

Personally, I often find the best differential isn't a differential player but missing out on a template player that I suspect is over-hyped.

Are there template players you're questioning, or don't want to have?

Have a FH differential in your side?

Thinking to go with Adams while the masses go Broja.

Think everyone is getting drawn into Broja being a very talented prospect but Adams imo is still the better player right now. Similar goal threat but a lot more of a creator.

3rd and 4th most transferred in forwards this GW so you are not alone and the masses aren’t just goi g for Broja. Ralph loves his 2 up top and Adam A just can’t seem to usurp either of these protagonists. I’d still go Broja as he’s got more about him in finding a shooting chance than Che.

Midfield wise Sterling Mahrez Bruno Son seems to have emerged as the template in a 3-4-3. Son is a lock for me but it seems anyone other than those could be a bit of a differential - KDB, Sancho, JWP etc.

Team value and captaincy will be my differentials.

So while everyone else has Sterling + Broja, I can afford Sancho + Foden so I'll go there and hope it works out.

United at home against Watford by all accounts should mean lots of points. Captaincy as well I think should be on a SGW player. It's like people haven't learned the King/Dennis lesson. Weghorst plays for Burnley and had one shot against Brighton. I don't think he should be given the captaincy even with the extra game. But he has a high floor because of his two games so I'll still include him.

Son, Mahrez, Fernandes all in my thinking for captain. Will mull it over. But currently on Mahrez with Son VC.

For me the Watford game feels a trap. They’re going to be well drilled defensively and while I see a united win I doubt it’ll be a goal fest.

United have not lacked goals though. They've created lots in the last few games. It's just that they can only play for about an hour before they suddenly lose focus.

Hodgson might be able to drill a defense but his record against big teams is abysmal. This is the same defensive coach that lost 7-0 to Liverpool.

I don't know his long term record v top 6 but I remember his short time at West Brom where he beat Liverpool twice, beat Chelsea and got Draws v City, Spurs and Arsenal. Certainly wasn't Abysmal

        No it won't.

We're still a poor team, Leeds are the perfect opposition for us to play.

Brighton were better than us, then we were poor for the three games prior to that.

My FH is fairly template, but main tweaks are double Saints defence (Forster, Bednarek) instead of Burnley (but keeping Mee for set piece threat), Ward-Prowse over Broja, and chasing the higher ceiling with my City mids (Mahrez & Sterling)

I'm not FHing but if I was, I think I'd be including Kulusevski in my team. There seems to be a tendency for people to try to spend every last bit of their budget on their FH teams, when often cheaper alternatives can outscore their more expensive counterparts.

It's hard to really argue with the template atm. It kind of picks itself.

      Pope*
      Cancelo - Mee* - Shaw/Saints
      Sterling - Mahrez - Son - Bruno
      Kane - Weghorse* - Broja

But there are a few alternative options if you're not convinced by Sterling and Mahrez:
      - KDB
      - Foden
      - Sancho
      - Pogba (Played really well against Leeds)
      - JWP

      Repost from previous HT

I have a niggling doubt in my mind that this Kane performance was like Torres in 10/11 season after trying to get a move to Chelsea and having Liverpool block it he was poor all season until he played Chelsea and was suddenly back to his old self and scored a brace and went back to poor performances until he left that January, but then his move showed it was his injury more so that caused the drastic downturn in his form.
Still its giving me pause to at least not captain him, will still pick him on FH would be unwise to not go for him looking at Leeds form, injuries and them having played United and Liverpool in the week before they play spurs.

As for differential the only spots are 4th mid - 2nd city attacker or Sancho/JWP or 3rd def where some one could come in the rest of the FH seems to pick itself imo.

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 14 Years
        4 years, 1 month ago

Yep, I have my doubts on Kane too. Certainly won't captain.

I think I'll punt on a City lad for the captaincy. I smell a 9-0 with Donny at CM, Mina and Godfrey injured, and Lampard in charge.

    11. Botman and Robben

My differential is not free-hitting and using my 2nd one after gw30 to jump on some surprise DGW fixtures that have more than one team doubling.

Ditto. Will bodge 9 or 10 man team woth a hit or two, as 30 and probably 36 will repay a hit after week 28 wild card.

    12. Salarrivederci

I can't FH, but if I could it would be:

      Pope
      Cancelo - Mee - Shaw
      Bruno - Son - Mahrez - JWP
      Kane - Adams - Weghorst

      (Saints defender first on bench)

I'd probably bring in Pope and (C) him. Feel like he will return 6 at minimum, probably 10 and 15+ if very lucky.

I'd only own 4 of those players on a -4, but feel like I can get away with it if lucky:

      Pope
      Cancelo - Varane - Coufal/E.Royal
      Pogba - Maddison - Bowen - JWP - Ramsey
      Kane - Ronaldo

Looking at FH this week but having a bit of a brain fart. If I changed my entire team, how would that generally affect my team value?! Does it massively depreciate or stay the same when the same players are reverted in the following GW?!

Not quite. It goes to whatever it would be if you hadn't played the FH.
So if you have Salah bought at £13.0m and he's now £13.1m, you can seel him for £13.0m on your FH but if he raises to £13.2m this week (which, crazily, looks possible) you would be able to sell him for £13.1m next week.

I listen to the odd game on the radio whilst I'm doing other things and do the rest with stats, yep. It puts me at a disadvantage for sure but I like to think it means I have a decent record vs the time invested since watching games takes hours! That's not to say I don't enjoy matches, I just don't make the time in my life to take them in.

It's a bit of a grey area because I spend a lot of time on here, so I get the benefit of the eye-test analysis from the community, and radio commentators describe what they're seeing of course.

How to lose Watkins and get in some spurs attack here?

    Ddg
    Cancelo, Dalot, Livra
    Bowen, Cornet, Bruno, Maddison
    Watkins, Edouard, Dennis

    A) Watkins, Bruno to Kane, Mahrez -4
    B) Watkins, Bruno, Maddison to Borja, Son, Sterling -8
    C) Bruno to Son

    Leaning towards A

Not sure I like losing Bruno for a hit before Watford at home. Can you do Watkins and Maddison to Borja and Son?

If not, think Kulu is an option for a straight swap with Maddison?

  9. HD7

    A)
    Pope
    Cancelo Pieters* Livra*
    Mahrez Son Bruno Sterling*
    Broja Weghorst Kane

No bench - maybe Cancelo to Walker but too many people have Cancelo

    B)
    Pope
    Cancelo Mee* KWP*
    Mahrez Son Bruno Sancho*
    Broja Weghorst Kane

    Bench: Livra, Ramsey, Amartey

    Im seriously thinking about B
And Sancho is definitely something different. I can see If money allows it, maybe Broja to Adams

Don’t think this is worth a free hit, but a little worried about lining this squad up against FH teams this week. 1FT and 3.6 ITB (Still have 2 FH and WC)

    Lloris (Foster)
    Dalot-Cancelo-Digne
    Bowen-Bruno-Cornet-Ramsey
    Broja-Dennis-Watkins

    Salah-TAA-Tierney

    Thoughts?

      My team (non-FH) is 'similar':

      Lloris
      Dalot Cancelo Lamptey
      Bowen Son Cornet Raph
      Dennis Antonio Weghorst [C]

      No benches: LIV & ARS

      Ride on 27?

Ya I would say you are certainly safe to ride with Son and weghorst in there.

My concern is that I’m lacking any spurs attack. Think weghorst and son in for Bowen and Watkins is worth a -4?

If B bench would be Livramento, Mbeumo, Williams

I'm in a very similar boat to you and have currently settled on sacrificing a decent bench by going for the players with a really high ceiling like Sterling.
I've gone for your exact A Bench in order to get Sterling, Mahrez, Bruno and Son, although I have Mee instead of Roberts for better chance of two games.

Current team for GW27 (currently sat at 52k)

    DDG
    Cancelo Reguilon Schar
    Cornet Raphina Coutinho Son
    Edouard Dennis Weghorst

    Bench: Steele, Tierney, TAA, Salah

1xFH, TC, BB, WC all available

Plan: GW 28 -4 Cancelo to Wolves Def, Edouard to Jiminez
GW29 -4 Cornet to Saka, Weghorst to Laca

If Southampton lose to West Ham in the FA Cup then GW29 -4 Dennis to Laca and De Gea to Ramsdale.

Would leave me with 8 or 10 starters on GW30 with no FH played and WC for GW31....

    Thoughts?!

free hit in 28 actually looks better than 27. More doubles and they are for players you dont want in the long term

Agree. For my team the upside FH27 is maybe around 10 points, but for FH28 around 30 points! Only thing is there might be better to WC28 and have good team for 28,29,30, then hold free hits for later doublegameweeks. But yeah, very tempted to FH28 and 30 also since team not set up for that either.

The problem is, you're removing strong SGW players next week. In FH27 the players I'm replacing are my Arsenal and Liverpool non-playing guys.

      What scores you more?

Sterling, Son, Cancelo vs Salah, Saka, TAA this week?
      Or
Sa, Saiss, Coutinho vs Ramsdale, Tierney, Saka next week?

Not to mention Arsenal might double anyway in which case if you FH this week you probably have lots of them in place.

    Hi Legends, need some advice:
Have 1ft. have all chips left, except TC!

    A- play FH
    B- Save FH = 1FT+ -4 (Laca+Jota > Weghorst+Son?) = 10 players GW 27

    Lloris
    Dawson - Cancelo - Livramento
    Raph - Bowen
    Dennis - Edouard

    Foster - Salah* - Jota* - Laca* - White* - Saka* - TAA*
