We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 28 ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 GMT deadline.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation and are limited to £83.5m – the small, annual increase to the starting budget that you can read more about here – for our first XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always picked from the budget/cheaper crop of players, not to serve as bench fodder but to give some alternative options who don’t cost as much as some of the names in our line-up.

GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDERS

Is Hwang Hee-chan

The game’s joint-highest scoring stopper, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jose Sa (£5.3m), gets the nod between the posts. Wolves previously went through a binary period whereby every score between Gameweeks 12 and 21 was either 1-0 or 0-0 and their defence kept six clean sheets out of a possible eight. The shut-outs have dried up of late, with their expected goals conceded (xGC) tally catching up with them after a season of overachievement.

A huge reason for this overachievement has been the form of, and 56 save made by, Sa, which has brought in 14 save points and eight bonuses. A promising Double Gameweek at home to both Crystal Palace and goal-shy Watford should be a great way for Wolves’ backline to get back on track.

Romain Saiss (£5.0m) follows Sa into the Scout Picks, with the Moroccan one of Wolves’ main aerial threats. Crystal Palace have made a habit out of conceding from set plays this season.

Chelsea’s upcoming games against Burnley and Norwich City are close to perfection as a double-header, notwithstanding the Clarets’ recent upturn in form. From a defensive point of view, the two fixtures particularly appeal: these sides are the lowest scorers in the division and, even during their recent purple patch, Sean Dyche’s troops have still only found the net on six occasions in their last seven games.

Thomas Tuchel’s cautious words on the fit-again Reece James (£6.2m) call into question the wing-back’s game-time in the league over the coming weeks but an injury to Cesar Azpilicueta (£5.6m), a midweek breather for James and the generous Sunday-Thursday turnaround has led to us taking a gamble on the England international. Antonio Rudiger (£6.1m), who has started every single top-flight match that he has been available for this season, is alongside him as a securer pick.

James averages 5.7 points per match this season, while only Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) and Joao Cancelo (£7.1m) have registered more shots amongst defenders than Rudiger.

The ever-unpredictable Lucas Digne (£5.1m) is joint-second among FPL defenders for chances created since his Aston Villa debut, and now takes on Southampton and Leeds United in Double Gameweek 28. Steven Gerrard’s switch to a more compact 4-3-1-2 formation at Brighton on Saturday may have reigned in the Frenchman’s attacking instincts a little, but he still has a share of set pieces, whilst his team’s new, more defensive approach should boost his clean sheet prospects.

RP - any views good people?

what to do with this lot? thinking cucurella to saiss(would bench bowen), bruno to son for -4?

i don't like my watford boys but one last roll in a DGW

I'd definitely shift one of the forwards for Adams/Broja. Southampton are just so much more on it, and it's a good future more too.

Do you plan to get Kane, or just Son after this GW? Would affect my moves.

cheers, i guess king is the one i'd lose as my least like player lol

probably just Son, had Kane earlier in season for about 10 blanks, not sure i can justify going back there 🙂

which forward would you sell, King i guess? DGW but horrendous fpl player against wolves and arsenal defence probably isn't going to get me any points anyway lol

Cucu to Saiss defo, Bruno to Son for -4 I am not sure, but King to Broja/Adams defo (I went with Broja but frankly a coin toss)

Ramsdale and Tierney pretty high CS chance and both good with bonus
Cancelo I think might get 2 but did get 14 in reverse fixture
          Saka has been looking dangerous
So wouldn’t be surprised to see a 20+ bench

Definitely a lovely looking squad but what's your plan for 30 and beyond?

You're set up with 3.5 star defenders atm but would need to lose at least one to put extras out in 30. If the plan is to bring the same player back shortly after 30, wasting that transfer in the run in could be costly. MF far more interchangeable. Can you lock two defenders now and transfer in a 3rd in 30 or 31?

    Evening fellow panickers 😉

    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo Digne Livramento
    Salah Son Fernandes Ramsey
    Broja Dennis

    DDG White Bowen Weghorst

    A) Digne/Fernandes > Silva/Willock
    B) Digne/Fernandes > Rudger/Fraser
    C) Cancelo/Fernandes > James/Raphinha

Chip plan is: FH30, FH33, BB36, WC sometime after 30. (BB & 2nd FH could switch).

It probably doesn't seem to make sense selling Digne this week, but genuinely not sure if he gets a CS - then has poor fixtures. Option C could get me James - but then I have to lose Cancelo, who has MUN > CRY > [FH] > BUR... then only 32/33 are trickier. Feels mad to lose him just to keep Digne? Do have a WC so could bring him back, but that is a 0.5m loss.

So, thoughts? Also - would you bench Cancelo or Dennis for White?

From a purely numbers point of view, the team that's conceded the fewest goals this season is playing the two teams that have scored the fewest goals. Granted, both games are away, but having a Chelsea defender seems like a sensible option this week.

But I do like Digne over the next few weeks, especially with a game in 30.

      This doesn't help, does it?

Thanks for the reply. I don't care about Digne's GW30 fixture tbh as I'll be FH-ing. After this GW he has WHU, ARS, WOL, TOT, LIV, LEI - honestly, I'd want to bench him every week.

Thanks for the Dennis/Cancelo question below. Same... I think.

          Fair point.

Digne to a Chelsea defender of your choice then.

Fernandes is a lot of money invested is a player in an average team with terrible fixtures. His stats are good tho so I wouldn't ditch for a hit. If you've got 2 FT, the world's your oyster!

I'm on Mount but expecting to be disappointed with him being rested at least once out of the next 3.

CHE, LEI, ARS mids, or even JWP, all good picks in the run up to 30.

Cancelo's distribution has been poor in the last 6. Only 5 chances created, but he had 18 goal attempts in the last 6 matches. Ramsey had 2 chances created and 9 goal attempts over the last 6 matches.

I've really struggled to pick a balanced squad with Salah, Kane & Son.

    WC:
    Ramsdale
    James Rudiger (c) Kilman Coady
    Salah Mount Ramsey
    Kane Broja Vardy
    Bench: Kulusevski, Bowen, Amartey (Raya)

Theoretically, 7DGWs this week, 4DGWs next week, 9 GW 30 starters + 2FT. And a half decent nucleus for the rest of the season.

Vardy feels a little punty. But not as much as double Wolves Def. I'll be lucky if I get anywhere close to 270 mins from all my Chelsea in the next two weeks. Cancelo will definitely outscore at least one of my DGW defenders and I have a funny feeling Lukaku is about to return to flat track bully mode. Really wanted Son but the balance of the team went all out of whack.

    Am I missing anything?

Looks good. Like the Vardy shout, but I’d prefer have those funds elsewhere for next two weeks.

Bowen's underlying stats are still there but if he didn't have a game in 30 he would've been gone.
I'm definitely not comfortable having Kulusevski but he's a very short-term pick that's easy to flex out of.

Cannot decide what to do with Cancelo... but need to decide before his price drops tonight... On WC so very tempted to use his funds on Chelsea and Wolves defenders to take advantage of the DGWs but just feels like a massive risk taking him out... especially as I can see City running riot against United and he could easily come away with a couple of attacking returns and a clean sheet.

    Help me out... do I?

    A - Keep Cancelo
B - Swap him to Rudiger

Got no Chelsea players for this GW which worries me given their fixtures this DGW.

Is Robbo to either Rudiger or James worth it considering Chelsea much more likely to get clean sheets against Burnley and Norwich than Liverpool against Arsenal and Brighton next GW

Maybe. It feels a little sideways as Robertson could feasibly get an attacking return and/or CS in any of those three matches too.

I did Robertson >> Rudiger, it was my only path to Chelsea defence, felt bad losing Robertson but hopefully it will pay off

I might just end up going without and doing Tarkowski to Livramento (or someone who has a game in gw30). Swapping Robbo to Chelsea def for a hit doesn't sound great, just can't shake that FOMO

Anyone going for Robinson along with TAA on a WC now?

I'm thinking I'll save a future transfer for next week and get on double liverpool defence early, I'll be going with double wolves/Chelsea/Liverpool all at the back (SA goal) just leaves me no Arsenal (but eye is on Martenelli for GW30 as a FT)
