Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has relaunched for the 2022/23 season and managers can now set their squads up for the new campaign – as well as try to grab a low team ID!

The launch comes after four days of price reveals in which 219 Premier League players were priced up across all 20 top-flight clubs.

We’ll round up the newly released prices in an article later.

WHAT’S NEW IN FPL

UNLIMITED TRANSFERS DURING THE WORLD CUP
Enter your nominations for World Cup of FPL assets

Fantasy managers will get unlimited transfers during the six-week hiatus between Gameweeks 16 and 17, when the Premier League takes a break to accommodate the World Cup.

It’s effectively a third chance to completely overhaul your squad, as the two usual Wildcards remain in place: the first has to be used by Gameweek 16, while the second can only be activated from Gameweek 18 onwards.

TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTIFICATION

One of the other biggest changes is not to the gameplay but to the security of the site.

Following a spate of high-profile hackings in 2021/22, FPL have introduced Two-Factor Authentification (2FA) by popular demand.

Here’s how to beef up security on your Fantasy Premier League account:

  • Go to https://premierleague.com
  • Click on your Profile Name (top right corner on desktop)
  • Go to Manage Profile
  • Go to Account Security
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentification and follow the on-screen steps from there

WHAT’S STAYED THE SAME IN FPL

Graphics aside, everything else of note in FPL seems to have remained the same.

The chips are as they were (two Wildcards, one Free Hit, one Bench Boost and one Triple Captain), with the obvious exception being the extra Free Hit that FPL granted us in a Covid-affected 2021/22.

The scoring system is identical, with the Gameweek deadlines remaining at 90 minutes prior to the first kick-off.

YOUR FPL ESSENTIALS FOR 2022/23

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 38? 6

If you’ve been taking a well-earned break from all things FPL over the summer, welcome back. If you’ve stayed with us through the lean, Fantasy-less weeks, thanks for your dedication!

The FPL planning for Gameweek 1 starts in earnest here and we’ve got all the tools and articles you need to help with your pre-season preparation.

PRE-SEASON TAB

Speaking of pre-season, our dedicated page lists all the summer friendlies, the minutes played in these warm-up matches and who has been racking up the goals and assists. We’ll have Scout Notes on all of these friendlies, to see if we can unearth the next John Lundstram ahead of Gameweek 1.

SET-PIECE TAKERS

Our list of set-piece takers has been updated and refreshed, for those of you who are looking to get clued-up on those responsible for penalties, corners and free-kicks.

NEW SIGNINGS ASSESSED

There have been some high-profile transfers already taking place this summer and we are documenting them all on our Transfers page. The biggest moves will get their own dedicated Scout Reports, while we’ll also cover every other noteworthy incoming transfer in our regular round-up.

SEASON TICKER

Our Season Ticker can help you sort by opponent difficulty to spot those upcoming fixture swings, while you can also find out which teams’ matches rotate well.

Wolves, for example, are top of our Season Ticker over the first six Gameweeks of 2022/23 – but there are some tough games ahead for Crystal Palace.

I was tempted to get both Jesus and Watkins fixtures rarely subbed etc. But I went for Jesus and 5 man midfield instead in a 4-5-1. Getting Watkins would mean getting rid of Diaz and going cheaper on defence tough call.

Fun and games as always when doing first draft and the usual frustration of being .5 away from a desired team... my first draft to tear to shreds:

    Raya, 4.0
    TAA, VVD, Cancelo, James, Justin
    Salah, Grealish, Martinelli, Neto, Colback
    Kane, Jesus, 4.5

I like that team a lot. Not keen on Grealish personally. I feel like Martinelli and Neto are educated punts but Grealish may be a stretch too far to start the season.

I wouldn't go as far as "broken" but surely there was room for improvement... I've seen so many good suggestions from the community on so many levels... I just think this game has grown spectacularly and the feeling I've got is that it's being run the same way for the last 10 years. Same people, same resources, same zero innovation.

Team selected. Based on ownership. Will update a few hours before the deadline to reflect the latest ownership trends:

    Mendy - (Raya)
    Perisic - TAA - James - Cancelo - Tomiyasu
    Salah - Diaz - Neto - (Colback) - (Murphy)
    Haaland - Jesus - (Greenwood)

    - 2 of the 3 most selected GKs - only Alisson is more selected, but cannot have more than 3 from Liverpool
    - Top 5 most selected DFs
    - Top 3 most selected MFs
    - Top 3 most selected FWs

Feel like this draft is lacking flexibility but thoughts welcome:

    Ederson
    TAA - Robertson - Laporte - James - Chilwell
    Salah - Martinelli - Wissa
    Haaland - Jesus

    Begovic - Elanga - Winks - Greenwood

Personally don’t like Ederson - locks up a city spot that could go to someone more explosive.

Also not think you need both Chelsea fullbacks so could be downgraded to give more options in midfield.

Downgrade Ederson, a Chelsea fullback to 4.5 and midfielder bench fodder to 4.5s and you can upgrade Wissa to any of the appealing 8m midfielders

      1. CantSpellFailWithoutFAI
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 6 days ago

As much as Ederson locks a City spot, do you really want to triple up on Pep roulette? Nailed member of the City D for 5.5m. He may well be a downgrade candidate though when it comes to wildcard and we see who the cheap keeper turns out to be.

Assuming Chelsea keep their formation, them 2 lads are locks in my mind. The Chelsea WBs are such a big part of their attack. Robertson to make way for upgrading Wissa to Diaz was a close plan B for me. Improves the structure but can't see Diaz matching Robertson longer term. Probably worth sacrificing some points for structure though

I understand what you are saying about Chelsea structure just short term fixtures aren’t perfect and given the new World Cup wildcard almost certainly means we will wildcard in the short term I’m planning to go more aggressively on early fixtures.

            • 4 Years
            4 years, 6 days ago

That early wildcard is a good point. Can be a bit more aggressive than usual with a GW1 lineup. Probably need to see if there are any 6-7m midfielders who look like they will be bolters though during preseason but easier to say I have faith in James/Chilwell at the moment

    2. IN SANE IN DE BRUYNE
      • 9 Years

I'd rather have 4.5 GK + Cancelo over Ederson + Laporte
Might also be worth downgrading Robertson to upgrade Martinelli/Wissa to a 8m option, because there are plenty of them.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 13 Years
        4 years, 6 days ago

I'm with the OP. I've ajudged Ederson will score more than a 4.5 keeper than Cancelo will Laporte. Plus i'd probably want to chop and change a 4.5 keeper whereas Ederson and Laporte are season-keepers.

            • 13 Years
            4 years, 6 days ago

Ederson got 30 points more than the best 4.5 last season, and you never know who will be the best 4.5.

          2. CantSpellFailWithoutFAI
            • 4 Years

I think Cancelo's attacking stats have been a bit overhyped. Shoots from range alot but not that effectively. He was a bit of a bonus point magnet last year though. I think if Cucarella joins then I can see Cancelo playing at RB a fair bit where he seems less effective (open to correction on that)

Ederson may not score as highly as the top 4.5m keeper on a points per million basis but dont know who that is yet. At current prices he did just about beat out Sanchez who was last years 4.5m darling

But when we are all likely to wildcard by gw9 does a “season keeper” matter?

            • 13 Years
            4 years, 6 days ago

It does - if you get them in at GW9 you could be paying a lot more for them.
Whilst my City/Liverpool assets are intended to be for the season, I'll prob lose all Arsenal assets when their fixtures turn - just when Spurs and Newcastle look good. That GW8 which seems a good point to WC.

            • 4 Years
            4 years, 6 days ago

Agree with you on the fact a season keeper isnt vital. I'm hoping to get to the INT break between GW8 and 9 for my wildcard and Id think the top 3 keepers at that point will be Ederson, Alisson and Ramsdale. The other 2 feel worthy of paying 0.5m over Ramsdale

Raya and Sanchez seem the popular 4.5s but I'm not convinced about their early schedule from a defensive perspective

I think the template has to be target GW9 after the only international break but having to use it earlier is less of an issue than past years

Just seems like then you get less "benefit" out of the WC given you get a free one only 7 GW later.

I’d say it’s pretty perfect. Transfer window will have closed, you can fix any issues with injury etc due to the international break and you have a manageable number of GWs (7) worth of fixtures to target your wildcard to.

In practice after 7/8 GWs your squad will look so different to the one you wildcarded in that you are no longer “benefitting” from the wildcard

Nailedness of Martinelli will be key I think. Means many can go him over Jesus and release a lot of funds

    Raya - (4.0)
    TAA - Chilwell - Cancelo - Tomiyasu - (4.0)
    Salah - Diaz - Coutinho - Bruno Guimaraes - (4.0)
    Haaland - Jesus - (4.5)

Came up with this after an hour of tinkering, any obvious mistakes?

No obvious mistakes as anyone has a valid opinion. I don’t think any of your picks are silly ! Neto seems a gift given how good he was pre injury. Though not sure how good wolves are

Assume the 4.0 midfield is just a typo? Either way I’d want a bit more a bench, think Bruno could be downgraded to release 0.5

    Pickford / Begovic
Van Dijk / Trippier / Cash / White / Vestergaard
    Salah / Mount / Kulusevski / Coutinho / Rice
    Haaland / Jesus / Undav

    Everton Goalie? Might work ...
Tried to squeeze Laporte in to Defence, but funds used elsewhere
Vestegaard to be Neco Williams if he goes to Forest
Happy with midfield (Rice = steady) and forwards

Go on ... what have I done wrong

Castagne (4.5) could be nice option if Evans and Fofana stay fit. No Europe this season.

Best 5.5 mid to complete this sexy 5-3-2 draft?

    Ramsdale
    Trent | Cancelo | James | Chilwell | Doherty
    Salah | Kulusevski/Diaz | _____
    Kane/Haaland | Jesus

    4.0 keeper | Pereira | Colback | Greenwood

    Thanks!

      Neto

      Diaz over Kulusevski easily imo.

I think he's got higher potential, but we'll need to see how he fits into the side this season and if Wolves can improve on their relatively poor attacking form.

Many bargains to be had at Leicester it seems. They fell apart as many Rodgers teams do at the tail end of the season but could start off well especially with no Europe this season

I also like Barnes although will need to keep an eye out on pre-season as he was in/out of the team towards the end of last season. If he's back in the reckoning could be on par/better than Maddison.

Defence is also interesting Castagne/Justin potential bargains

I like the look of Maddison too, but can we justify going with him over/alongside Dias, or take the punt on Grealish?

This was my instinct when the game first launched! Rest of my team just doesn't look as spicy though with him over a 2nd cheaper mid option in there...

This is probably the best draft I came up with so far, weak bench, and not so sure about walker.

    Sa
    TAA - James - Cancelo - Walker - Tomiyasu
    Martinelli - Neto - Salah
    Haaland - Kane

    Sarkic, Moder, Greenwood, Chuk

    1. ⭐ Bemba_Da ⭐
      • 16 Years

Midfield is one of the top scoring positions, looks rather weak in this draft with martinelli who has questions over whether he starts and Neto who I wouldn't rely on getting points

maybe try downgrading kane for now just to see how it looks. Allows for an upgrade of Neto to leicester mid perhaps and Martinelli potentially to someone more nailed

kane or haaland downgrade....but I can see why you went with both. May still be a good option but try spreading the funds

    Thoughts:

    Rays
    TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Chilwell, James
    Diaz, Mount, Maddison, Coutinho
    Haaland

    Rashford
