Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is live for 2022/23 and so too is our table of players on free-kicks, corners and penalties at their respective clubs.

The players are listed in order of prominence at dead-ball situations, based on information gathered from last season’s matches. Data closer to Gameweek 38 is given more weight.

The list will be updated constantly as new information becomes available on assigned set-piece takers and we’ll have one eye on pre-season to see if there is a shake-up in the table below or if any new signings like Erling Haaland are muscling their way in on the dead-ball duties.

Nottingham Forest are a good example: Joe Lolley and Brennan Johnson are listed as direct free-kick takers but it was loanees Joe Garner and Philip Zinckernagel who were chiefly responsible for these in the Championship last season and they have now departed the club.

This is a list that is also supplied to the FPL site, where you’ll find explanatory notes on the penalty takers featured here.

First questions regarding the structure arise. Son/KDB + Mitro is exactly the same price as Haaland + Grealish. Thoughts on better value? Thinking the latter may score better, but interested in what people think. Does Son/KDB outscore Haaland more than Grealish outscores Mitro?

But in all seriousness Andy I would like your opinion on something. To shave £1.0m of my defence I'd need to downgrade either TAA or Cancelo.
Would you go Ederson + VVD, or, Alisson + Laporte ?

      1. Andy_Social
        • 13 Years
        4 years, 9 days ago

I absolutely wouldn't take out Trent. He's the ONE player in the whole list I'd never compromise. I suspect the gap between Cancelo and Laporte might be less this year, so I'd save there if I had to.
Alisson outscored Ederson last season, but my decision would be based on which outfielders I'm going for. Salah and TAA are non-negotiable; if I want Diaz, VVD or Robbo, Alisson is out. For City, if I want Haaland and both Cancelo and Laporte, Ederson is out. But I suspect Ederson at a lower price can cover a City defender. So I would lead towards Ederson+VVD, but it entirely depends on your whole squad. That's why I never ask these 'A or B' questions - it's never a case of binary options for me - it's a whole-squad picture that I try to focus on.

        1. LangerznMash

Cheers. It's funny that a kind of knew the answer you were going to give, we are on the same wavelength. I made a mistake putting Alisson as an option as it would put me on 4 Liverpool players. Ederson + Laporte is plenty City defence cover so I shouldn't worry about no-Cancelo too much.

Going off last year's point totals and this season pricing Cancelo = 28.7 ppm and Laporte = 26.7 ppm so there isn't too much in it now Cancelo has had a +£1.0m increase.

I'd rather compromise on TAA than Cancelo personally.

Cancelo is gonna be top scoring defender this year imo. Why are people willing to go Laporte over Cancelo and no one is willing to go VvD over TAA. The saving is the same.

Apologies in advance for what is definitely the most pathetic observation regarding FPL. In the past I’ve set up my initial team so that my season keepers (I.e. Salah, TAA….) appear on the left when viewing the transfer page. For some reason this year it seems the players are being listed alphabetically based on the team they play for and not based on the slot I picked when transferring them in.

Is anyone else sad enough to have noticed this? My OCD might force me to ignore all defenders and midfielders from any team before Liverpool in the alphabet!

Was messing around to see if I could get Trent, Rob, Salah, Son, Haaland and Jesus into a viable team. It's tough. If you drop Son for Kane I got:

    Raya (4.0)
    TAA, Rob, Trips, Tomi (4.0)
Salah, Neto, Elanga (but really any 5.0 like Bissouma or even Leon Bailey) (Andreas P; Colback)
    Kane, Haaland, Jesus

I don't hate it but it is a bit inflexible without a bench. If you dropped Rob to Chilwell/James you could even fit Martinelli into it. Just testing the waters a bit to see what's possible right now.

I used mine on double GW to moderate success last season. However, I can really see the merit of the Bench Boost in GW1 and WC GW2 strategy. Also enables you to immediately jump on all the soon to be bandwagon players before the price rises. You will have the answers to all the questions we are currently asking about Rashford, Martinelli, Bailey, £4.0 defenders etc...

I spunked my BB GW2 and WC GW4 last year and it worked out brilliantly, but that was largely due to covid concerns. I'm playing the tortoise over the hare strategy this time. No quick chips.

I’m planning to attack the first 5 gw and wildcard, but agree across the season 4.5 defender should be great value.

    Hi guys,

I think I love this team. Can you change my mind?

    Raya
    Trent, Laporte, Perisic, Tomiyasu
    Salah, Diaz, Kulu, Martinelli
    Haaland, Jesus

4.0 GK, Tomkins, Andreas and 4.5 Fwd

    - 442 best formation for start
    - two mid premium mids, can change to Mount, Saka or Raph easily if Raph didnt go to Barca etc
    - Martinelli better than Neto imo.
    - two captain candidates, each one in mid and fwd, love Son too.
    - better use of fund with Laporte when Cancelo cost 1mill more
    - Tomy better than White
    - Cheap GK.

    What u dont like?

It's pretty good. But the Chelsea wingbacks were some of the most explosive options last year when both fit. I'd rather go for one of them over Laporte.

I'm also very pro Cancelo so not gonna go without him.

Thanks Camzy. I change Laporte to Chillwell as his ppm is the highest and didnt be a sub frequently.

        Change Trent to Robbo too..

Do u have 2 or premium wingback ?

If I get Cancelo , I should lose Robboi suppose

Looks good. Personally I’m not on the Perisic hype train yet but seems I’m in the minority there.

I prefer Mount to Kulu but that’s a personal preference.

Just note you have triple arsenal so would be locked out of Saka, may not be an issue but something to be aware of.

Thanks Runnerboy. Maybe I should change Tomiyasu .

Mount and Kulu 50/50 for me

Suspect I know peoples answers but I’ll ask anyway - who performs better in the early weeks

    A. James / Chilwell + Coutinho
    B. Cash + Mount

Feel like A. Is the answer but I prefer the price point coverage B gives me.

I like B out of those. Not convinced Coutinho is worth a spot (or 7m) and Cash is as reliable a starter as you'll find. Mount had a lot of goal involvements last season and is pretty reliable for that, the 8m mid options are good so if he doesn't work out you can jump to another comfortably enough

I think I want to talk myself into B. A deep dive says Chelsea’s fixtures are nice for attackers but not that great for defenders - although going without a Chelsea fullback is risky

Switch Cash for Trippier.Same price and attacking threat but way better fixtures.

My analysis says Villa have the better defensive fixtures - yea Newcastle have some good ones but they also have some stinkers

      A. The Chelsea wingbacks are the value.

Coutinho offers some interesting options with Grealish, Raphinha, Barnes.

Thanks, I feel very torn. As individuals I prefer A but I have more alternatives I’m interested in at 5m / 8m than at 6m / 7m so would value those price points - one to mull over.

Sorry off topic but can somebody help me. I’m trying to access the season ticker on the members areas. I’m already a member but it’s telling me something about upgrading my membership. When I try to do that it tells me to cancel my existing membership without instructing me how to do that!? Help somebody please! I’m so frustrated! What is this new system and why is it not straight forward and user friendly!!!??

    Hey Guys,

I've just set up a top 10K all time league as I don't think one exists at the moment?

You can check your all time rank here (you still need to use last seasons ID for now)

    https://www.premierfantasytools.com/whats-my-all-time-rank/

Here is the link to join if you qualify

    https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/auto-join/pb0qri

    Happy tinkering 🙂

Slightly different. That is top 10K any season and Multiple Top 10K finishes I believe. Although, I'm happy to pass the one over to red lightning as he'll organise it better than I will!

Not sure which Pereira is listed as Mid?

It looks good in general although I'm not sure I love Gordon in there. At 5.5 there are likely some more productive options available. Most people seem to be going with Neto in that bracket. If you want a differential maybe Wissa, Olise or Mwepu all at the same price.

The team looks interesting on paper but I always feel that forwards are up against it in terms of their overall points production.

If you consider a season where Haaland plays in 33 games and gets more than 60 minutes in 25 of them (8 times being subbed off or coming on as a sub) and manages to score 32 goals and chip in with 6 assists. He'd probably win the golden boot and be the poster boy for the league. Imagine he also got 30 bonus points in that span (achievable but not overstated).

He'd wind up with 234 points. Which is about 24 points less than what Son got last year.

Mids are money, as are premium defenders.

    Template-ish 4-4-2:

    Henderson
    Trent | Cancelo | Castagne | N.Williams
    Salah | Son | Martinelli | Gordon
    Haaland | Jesus

    Fodder bench

Don't rate the threemium route at all.

Castagne, N.Williams and Gordon all starters with a fodder bench, not sure for me but each to their own.

3 big hitters will cause you grief later. Don't like it much . Williams as a starter is purely in there because he's 4m , he won't get many points imo. Great bench player but certainly not a starter. Not keen on Martinelli Gordon or Castsgne either. Bin it

It’s 0.5 over lol - I hadn’t realised at the time…so Martinelli would have to be say Neto.

Yeah 2 premiums looks much better, trouble it’s who to leave out.

Kane & Salah would be more indicative with what I know.
But do you think Haaland’s ownership means you have to start with him

Nothing to do with ownership. I think that he will smash the PL with the chances created for him Brutally clinical finisher.

Here is my first draft. 5-3-2

    GK: Ederson (Forster)
    DEF: Cancelo-TAA-Robbo-
    Chilwell-Cash
    MID: Salah-Rashford-Willock (DewburyHall)-(Andreas)
    ATT: Haaland-Jesus-(Greenwood)

Went with Ederson to enable triple City and Liverpool from the start with both double up in defence.
Will wait and see Rashford in pre season but feel like for 6.5m he will be a bargain if he can get back to form.
Apart from Ederson has anyone got suggestions of who I should downgrade to improve the 3rd midfield position? Currently Willock and DewsburyHall rotating.

    Thanks
